It’s the last week of our pumpkin drive and we could really use a good push towards our goal! We have about $500 raised and we need at least another $500 just to cover the machinery rental—we still need tons of gravel! Please keep sharing and commenting. We need any help you can offer:”.🙏🏻🩷✨

Every year just before Halloween we collect pumpkins for the animals and raise money for winter prep. We got started a little late this year and were hoping you can help us catch up. ⁣

✨🌱Meet the team!⁣

I am Jessie, one of our team of caretakers at Morningside! I have been with Morningside for about 3 years–first as a volunteer, and then as a staff caretaker. I have worked in animal care on and off over the years, and wanted to be part of the important work in rescue and sanctuary we do here. ⁣
⁣
I had been following Morningside’s work here on instagram for a few years when a friend asked if I wanted to join them to volunteer, I jumped at the chance and met our sweet goat crew one hot July day and the rest is history! I have been working on a PhD in literature while working part-time here at the sanctuary and I feel so lucky to get to spend some of my days with our sweet residents, and I love them all so much. ⁣

One of my favorite residents is George the pig–he is always so excited to see a human friend approaching that he will talk to you until you give in and scratch his belly–it is honestly the most validating greeting I’ve ever gotten early in the morning lol. I am so grateful to get the chance to talk directly to y’all–the people who make all that we do for the animals possible! Thank you for being a part of this space and community, and I’m looking forward to sharing some sneak peaks of what makes working at Morningside so magical! ⁣

✨🌱Meet the team!⁣

Hi everyone, my name is Shiloh and I’ve been a staff member at Morningside for two years! I’ve always wanted to work with animals, but when I was younger those opportunities were all in the context of animal exploitation. I rode horses, worked with sled dogs, worked on those idyllic “happy” small farms, and even worked in an animal testing lab in college. I thought that I could provide the best care and make it all okay, but when I finally watched Earthlings I made the connection and have been vegan ever since. That was a little over eight years ago. Working at Morningside has been a way I can give back to the animals who deserve nothing but the best! ⁣

Not to play favorites, but our most special boy Christopher and I have developed a really close bond since I started here. I make sure we get in a good snuggle and scritching session every time I’m in his pasture; he’ll almost crawl into my lap and try to groom me back if he’s really feeling it. I feel so lucky that he trusts me so much 🥹 His favorite treat is bananas and he looks most dapper in his ducky blanket.⁣

My hobbies outside of work include tinkering with various creative outlets, reading nerdy stuff, and lifting weights! I love showing people that vegans can be strong and build muscle 💪 ⁣

Hi friends! We’re still working hard over here behind the scenes and the animals are doing well. We’re transitioning soon to a new social media schedule that will be split amongst the three caretakers here at Morningside! I will be introducing our team again for those of you who haven’t met them and sharing some of their favorite residents stories. Stay tuned!💞

What a rough week for our little girl Sora! The surgery to close her lacerated lower eyelid was moderately successful but we have to make a trip to the clinic later this week to have it reassessed and possibly redone if the closure isn’t healing. I’ve scoured the pasture looking for where she got such a nasty cut and have removed any bit of wire that looks suspicious. I honestly still have no idea how she managed it but if there’s one thing I know about horses, it’s that they will find a way to create an emergency.🥲⁣

Her best friend Willow is looking after her and hasn’t wanted to leave her side during this time. We are super grateful to everyone who’s helped with her upcoming bill. I haven’t received the total yet but I will keep everyone in the loop! ⁣
