Hi friends! We’re still working hard over here behind the scenes and the animals are doing well. We’re transitioning soon to a new social media schedule that will be split amongst the three caretakers here at Morningside! I will be introducing our team again for those of you who haven’t met them and sharing some of their favorite residents stories. Stay tuned!💞

What a rough week for our little girl Sora! The surgery to close her lacerated lower eyelid was moderately successful but we have to make a trip to the clinic later this week to have it reassessed and possibly redone if the closure isn’t healing. I’ve scoured the pasture looking for where she got such a nasty cut and have removed any bit of wire that looks suspicious. I honestly still have no idea how she managed it but if there’s one thing I know about horses, it’s that they will find a way to create an emergency.🥲⁣

Her best friend Willow is looking after her and hasn’t wanted to leave her side during this time. We are super grateful to everyone who’s helped with her upcoming bill. I haven’t received the total yet but I will keep everyone in the loop! ⁣

Send our girl lots of healing thoughts in the comments below please.❤️‍🩹⁣

Sunday’s feel cursed with emergencies. I found Sora frantically trying to rub her face and upon closer inspection there was a massive cut to her lower eyelid. We have no idea how it happened but it needs immediate vet attention. I’m waiting for them to arrive and I will update everyone as soon as we get her taken care of. Please pitch in if you are able. Emergency farm calls are always such a nightmare and we’re gonna need all the support we can get.❤️‍🩹⁣

Gosh y’all it has been a HARD week. Losing Max broke my heart so badly that I’ve been struggling to recover and get back to work. It’s my last day off to try and relax my nervous system and I’m hopeful that things will start to feel easier soon. I’m not ready to share what happened yet but I really appreciate everyone’s kind words. I read every comment even if I don’t have the emotional bandwidth to reply. Love you all a ton.❤️‍🩹

If you haven’t befriended a pig yet you are missing out! There are so many animal sanctuaries needing volunteers. Look up your local rescue today and make some friends with super cute snoots.🥹💖

Oh where do I even begin? This perfect little horse spent an entire week in the hospital. We ran every test under the sun just short of a CT scan because our doctor is confident that the findings of that wouldn’t be curative. Christopher’s neurological signs have slightly improved but we still don’t know what caused his episode. All we can really do now is watch him closely and provide extra supportive care—currently this includes a steady stream of bananas with his electrolytes and mash. ⁣⁣

Caring for disabled and senior animals is so rewarding even when it breaks your heart to not be able to fix them. We will continue to shower Chris with love until his last day on earth. ⁣⁣

His bill is still being finalized at just over $4k. This is so disheartening to lose so much vital funding for our little rescue and not have any real answers. If you could spare a few bucks to help lighten the load it would mean so much to us. Everything we do here is made possible by small contributions. $5 goes such a long way when everyone pitches in.🙏🏻❤️‍🩹⁣⁣

Everyone’s favorite small boy is having a medical event and needs your help. On Tuesday evening we discovered him having trouble standing and we determined he had overheated and was dehydrated. We managed to stabilize him overnight with fluids and electrolytes. It seemed like he had recovered yesterday but this afternoon he started to decline again. I’m worried that he might have had a stroke or seizure. ⁣

We are headed to Oregon State to hospitalize him and run the full extent of diagnostic testing. Of all our seniors, Christopher is the most fragile and the dearest to my heart. These emergency hospital stays rarely come in under $3k and we are going to need everyone’s support to get him taken care of. ⁣

Please consider helping him as we start the scary process of uncovering the mystery illness that is effecting him. I appreciate you all so much.❤️‍🩹-Jess⁣

It’s been a busy week! We trimmed hooves, had another big dental day for half our equines, sheared the rest of the sheep and llama crew AND rescued three orphaned baby raccoons and got them to a wildlife rehabilitation facility. Everyone is relaxing and hiding out from the intense heat. ⁣

My lead caretaker is finally off from her teaching job and back to a full time position at the sanctuary for the summer. This means that I actually survived the first six months of working 9 shifts a week and I now have several days off in a row. I can’t even begin to explain the relief that I feel. Jessie will be helping out with social media while I try to regain some semblance of normalcy. Please give her a huge warm welcome!⁣

I hope everyone is enjoying their summer so far. Eat lots of vegan snacks and go swimming!❤️😌 -Jess

Nine year ago I decided I couldn’t keep living in active addiction and made the decision to get sober. I quit drinking and partying and never looked back. Today I’m celebrating nine years of being a happier, more whole person who doesn’t need substances to escape her own life. It isn’t always easy but it is always worth it. This is your sign to take control of your life and love yourself the way you’ve always deserved. You can recover and you can thrive.
