Fido Fixers is a charitable 501(c)(3) all volunteer organization located in Greenwich, Connecticut. The Founders of Fido Fixers, Lisa Wysocki, Suzanne Steinberg, and Susan Maounis, developed the original concept of Fido Fixers in late 2011 and was established in 2012. This was the result of years of experience working with animal rescue organizations and becoming increasingly frustrated with the s

eemingly never-ending supply of unwanted pets existing in high-kill shelters. This was especially prevalent in the southeastern part of the United States. The founders became convinced that the most important action they could take to end the senseless suffering and loss of life was to begin a low cost mobile spay and neuter program in the areas with the worst dog and cat overpopulation problem. We now have 8 surgical units up and running. Please note Fido Fixers is currently working in Media, PA, Asheville, NC, Houston, TX, Corpus Christi, TX, Jacksonville, FL, Jupiter, FL, and eastern TN. Please contact the group closest to your area directly. Fido Fixers does not do any scheduling and does not quote pricing on behalf of our partners listed below. This is what the animal rescue community should all be about! Working together for the betterment of our 4 legged friends. Many thanks

From the bottom of our hearts, everyone at Three Little Pitties Rescue wants to give an enormous THANK YOU to Houston PetSet! 🙌

In our time of need, following the recent hurricane and tropical storm recovery efforts, Houston PetSet stepped in and generously donated five large crates to support our rescued animals. Their kindness and quick action have made a world of difference for us and our furry friends!

We are deeply grateful for your unwavering support and compassion, Houston PetSet. Our staff and animals appreciate you so much!

🚨 UPDATE: Due to downed power lines and blocked roadways from , our mobile unit will be unable to operate today and tomorrow, Wednesday, July 10. We will reach out to anyone with appointments to reschedule. We are sorry for the inconvenience and hope everyone continues to stay safe!

Many folks are asking how they can help the animals after the storm. Right now the best thing you can do is find your favorite shelter or rescue on social media and see if they need help cleaning up their property or bringing donated supplies for the pets in their care. If you have power and space, everyone is in need of foster volunteers!

Food. Fireworks. Parties. While many people love the July 4 holiday, it can be traumatic for pets who have a phobic reaction to the loud sights and sounds that are synonymous with Independence Day celebrations.

For PET OWNERS that take their dogs to lakes and creeks, please read this warning from Morgan & Patrick Fleming.

This morning we thought, it’s so hot! Let’s go to the lake! We took our sweet Arya to the lake and had the best day playing ball and swimming around! About 30 minutes later on the drive home, we noticed her making weird noises and she threw up and pooped in the car. We called our vet on the drive and they suggested we take her in. By this point our girl couldn’t even stand. They told us she was in critical condition so we took her to the ER. By the time we got there, she was brain dead. Today was absolutely awful. We lost our fun, loving, and crazy girl to what we can only assume was a lake toxin such as blue green algae. Arya, no dog will ever replace you in our hearts. We already miss you more than you could know. I hope you’re running around like a wild girl with all the other boarder collies in doggo heaven ♥️

LESSON FOR THE DAY ~ Always place injured birds that can't stand up by themselves in a "doughnut" and place them in a box. Do not give them any food or water.
This bird is a Northern Mockingbird. It was found on the ground last night and was laying on its back. The person did put the bird in a box but it could not stand and was left laying on its side. The finder also dripped some water down the bird's mouth before calling for help. Not a good thing to do.
While on the phone, I had them make a nice "doughnut" for the bird so it could be in an upright natural position. After they did that they said the bird looked more comfortable and alert.
Unfortunately the mocker came in "mouth breathing." It is hard to say if the mouth breathing is from being aspirated when it was given water or if it was from the impact.
SO - Please keep birds supported upright in a box (as shown in the photo below) not laying on their side. Birds have air sacs along the sides of their body that expand and contract when the the bird breathes. Injured birds should be gently supported so air sacs can expand and contract and the bird can breathe easily. Do not try to give any food or water - unless you are instructed otherwise by your rehabber. You can very easily aspirate an injured bird and that alone can kill a bird. Help save a bird, feel free to share.

Update: this sweet boy has officially been ADOPTED! 🎉

After careful consideration and speaking with multiple applicants, Big Foot found his match! Once all plans are in place, he will be headed to his new home!! We will post an update when available. Thank you all for sharing his story and loving this boy as much as we do!

Thank you to all of you who reached out to adopt. Please know that it is very important to all of us to find the right match for each shelter animal. We hope you will consider adopting one of the other amazing pups looking for their forever home, too.

Update: Big Foot has a lot of interest! The shelter has received a ton of applications over the last two days and MANY voice mails. Please be patient as they make their way through in deciding on the best fit for Big Foot and a his new home. The shelter wants to do what is best for everyone, last thing they want is for him to be returned or end up at another shelter. We promise to keep everyone updated! Thank you for all the comments, shares, and concern!

Update: As of this evening, Big Foot had no meet and greets today. He did spend the day in our bonding room to decompress while waiting for potential adopters. We tested him with other dogs again and he did much better! Still hoping for his forever home soon.

It’s been a struggle to watch Big Foot decline over the last few months. We’ve posted him several times, and sadly, he’s had very little interest.

His story is quite simple. He came to the shelter no fault of his own after his owner was placed in an assisted living care. She loved him and worried about him. We promised to do our best to find him a home. So far, we have not succeeded.

The shelter is not ideal for any animal, but some have a harder time than others. And Big Foot has really struggled to adjust. He is lonely. He feels lost.

He was surrendered to the shelter with other dogs, but stress has taken a toll on him, and recently, he has not tested well with other dogs. So at this time, we would recommend an only dog home. At least until he can regain his confidence.

We don’t make ‘desperate pleas’ often, but it is becoming too hard to watch his days filled with sadness. So we are asking that if you are looking for a pet, please consider giving Big Foot a home. He just wants someone to love.
