We purchased these 51 heifers 3 days ago. They haven't been handled with a dog or bike from what I can tell. I had a dog on them briefly the other day in the yards, they didn't know how to respond, touchy and spooky also. Today I have popped them off the rye grass and into another paddock, this is Lizell and Ronnie handling them. They are feeling the mob really nicely and not busting them.
These weaners are 4 days weaned. We've weaned them young as we've been through a tough dry spell. They have been treated 3 times with different Heal with Ease remedies, and are on hay and pellets at the present moment. Responding to humans and dogs with peace, trust and not responding with fright or flight. We don't want fear driven into them.
Hot, dry and dusty. What can we do? Well we can’t control it. So why let ourselves feed off getting down about it. We are all doing our best to keep stock alive. So keep doing what your doing…..and keep your head high 🙌
My second run was with Liz in the encouragment/local. Had a bit more control over Liz in the yard which helped me. Scoring an 87 just missing out on the final. I'm so happy with how both dogs performed, taking away what I now know I need to work on. Thank you Wallabadah “The Way It Was” for a great trial and also giving me the honour to be one if the sponsors.
My first yard dog trial at Wallabadah “The Way It Was”. I am really happy with how my dogs went for me. This is Glen Idol Ronnie scoring an 82 in the encourgment/local
Those moments when you wish you started the video earlier. Ronnie has done a lot of kms and hard days of paddock work which really help her mature and I believe brought out the best in her so far. But now just doing this smaller mob work with her I’m enjoying. And working on little things like a stop, off, backing etc.
Touchy touchy touchy! Love some fresher sheep being that bit more challenging for both dog and handler 👌🏼 yarding them up for a few training sessions this arvo
Started filming this video when I left Ronnie with some lambs we were getting in to tag. I went ahead to open all the gates up. She did a lovely responsible job. Bit fast and pushy through the gate but hey, these things happen and it’s noted that it’s something to work on 😊
Bringing in some new trainers. Bit more touchy, drafted the rams out and will use some of these crossy ewes for some training I’m working on with Ronnie 👌🏼
Little video of Ronnie on the 100 lambs. I’m standing in the back of the Ute with two other dogs so the lambs aren’t wanting to come in too close 🤭 I believe she does a lovely job, this is her all natural, me not saying a word really, besides at Lizell who is making all the noise in the back of the Ute 😂
Some lovely calm, responsible work from Ronnie (Barru Luke x Barru Lizell) this morning. These lambs were a bit touchy too, as they hadn’t been handled in a while. Let me know your thoughts.
Ronnie has taken to backing! I’ve never taught a dog to back in my life. I gave her a little crack at it a few days ago with training sheep. Then tried again this morning and she was having a go!
Lizell and Ronnie doing a really nice calm job on the weaners. Not making work for themselves, also not making the weaners feel threatened, keeping the mindset of the weaners calm
Is this not the best company to keep 🤷🏼♀️ dogs holding them nicely up behind while I hold them at the gate
Moving our big mob (160) of cows back out the back for the majority of them to dry up so we can go through them again in a few weeks. The dogs working nicely with the cows with young calves. Working along with the cows, not doing anything unnecessary. Lizell, Ronnie and Roy
We spent the morning snake proofing and bird proofing the big puppy pen. Also laid creek sand in the back area for extra coolness and softness.
It’s been that hot that this was a better option for Liz and her pups. We’ve also got a fan in there to keep the air moving.
Liz has her nursery all ready. Pups due in a few days now 🙌
