🐾 Why Socialization Matters (and Why Starting Early Is Everything) 🐾

Socialization isn’t about letting your dog “say hi” to everything they see.
It’s about teaching them how to exist calmly and confidently in the world.

The best time to start? Early.
Puppies are constantly learning what’s normal vs. threatening. When they’re exposed early to new people, dogs, sounds, environments, and situations in a controlled way, they grow into dogs that can think instead of react.

🚨 Waiting too long often leads to: • Fear or anxiety around strangers
• Reactivity toward other dogs
• Overexcitement in public places
• Stress when routines or environments change

✅ Proper socialization builds: • Calm confidence in new environments

A reliable recall (“come” when called) is one of the most important skills your dog will ever learn. It’s not about showing off, it’s about safety, freedom, and trust.

A dog with good recall:
- Can safely enjoy off-leash time
- Is far less likely to run into traffic, wildlife, or danger
- Comes back to you even with distractions present
- Gives you peace of mind in everyday life

The problem? Most recalls fall apart the moment real-world distractions show up, other dogs, smells, people, or excitement. That’s why recall needs structured training, repetition, and proofing, not just calling your dog in the backyard and hoping for the best.

Good recall is built, not wished for.
And once it’s solid, it gives your dog more freedom and you a peace of mind.

Every spring, my training calendar fills up fast and it’s usually for the same reason.

That “cute puppy” is now 5–6 months old:
• Bigger
• Stronger
• More confident
• And testing every boundary

By this point, many owners realize they didn’t take the right steps early on to prevent bad habits and now the puppy stage feels out of control.

The truth is:
👉 Training early is easier
👉 Training later is still possible, but takes more work

This is why I strongly encourage owners to plan ahead and secure training before things escalate.
