I am committed to being the best dog trainer I can be. This means I keep up to date with the latest goings on in the industry. Part of my membership criteria with the IMDT, Mantrailing Global and KAD is that I complete so much CPD every year. The Dog Training College releases lots of CPD opportunities every year, and now as a lifetime member I have this on tap!

I also enjoy going to in person events and am very much looking forward to attending PPG's 3 day event in October

Riley - finally happy to eat! 😁

6 months ago we took the plunge and tried Different Dog We'd tried so many foods, but nothing seemed to satisfy our fussy pup! We have not looked back since switching. It does cost a small fortune but we're just so happy to still be getting clean bowls every meal.

Why not give it try and receive a discount on your first box. Would be great for Kongs, lickimats, training rewards etc too.

This do**us may look cute and be becoming more cuddly, but there are still things that are off limits for him.

Last vet trip wasn't great. He became mouthy when the vet was listening to his chest. He became more mouthy and fidgety when the vet tried to carry out his physical exam of his back legs. I did have a lickimat but not long lasting enough, and really is that the right way to approach it?

Then attempting a nail clip... I wanted to talk about possible sedation for this but next thing the vet is getting a muzzle out and we're trying to keep the poor boy still.... I failed at advocating for my dog in this moment 😞

So I need to do better. I need to embrace husbandry and cooperative care. He will need regular vet checks for his HD. I'd love him to have proper physio and massage. Hydro would love to be able to guide him more in the pool, maybe even in the treadmill one day.

I did our first session of Chirag Patel's Bucket Game this evening. The smallest of baby steps. Simply putting it here for accountability. Here's to being and doing better 🐾

So back in October, I met Debby at the PACT Conference. In January we finally pinned down a date to chat about me becoming a KAD Approved Professional. I was accepted and I am slowly starting to work through the various courses offered.

I really enjoyed the KAD Protocol to overcome Fear of Dogs in Kids course. It is well thought out and lovely and simple to implement. There is an Adults course too which I'm looking forward to learning as well.

There are also courses about Dogs in Schools, introducing kids/babies and dogs, and running workshops for Primary School kids - teaching them about Dogs and how to be safe around them. Also monthly webinars. I feel it is so important that children know how to behave around dogs but also that adults manage interactions between them and that they are ALWAYS supervised.

In a time where dog bites and even deaths seem to be at a high, I felt it an important organisation to be a part of. I hope to introduce some services that incorporate these skills once I have got to grips with all the content available.

You can find out more information and a map of KAD Approved Professionals on the website

Today was our 1yr anniversary of starting mantrailing 🐾

What a year it has been! We'd not long had our diagnosis of hip dysplasia. Riley was just 9 months old. Thought we'd try this activity that would work his brain but be kind to his body. Also give me a taste of a different kind of scentwork. I'd yet to find a buzz for it.

I think he blew us all away on his first session with how natural he was. He was loving it. I was loving it as I'd finally found something we could do together, as a team. He'd been so difficult as a puppy. We'd struggled to bond and understand each other. Mantrailing opened that door for us and I will be forever grateful for finding it

My Mantrailing hi-viz vests have arrived! 😁

As we tend to be in public spaces, it's important we are seen for safety, and it also tells the public that we are working.

Hopefully they get their first airing on Sunday at Hanworth.

A big thank you to Gill at for doing them

Mantrailing is suitable for all dogs - from young to old, reactive, exempt*, those with disabilities or limited mobility - we work to the abilities and strengths of the dog in front of us. All dogs are worked individually.

So what is Mantrailing? We are teaching our dogs to find a hidden person using their unique scent. Our dogs have an amazing nose. You will learn to work as a team, reading your dog to find you hidden person.

This is THE REASON why I started Mantrailing. Riley had just been diagnosed with hip dysplasia. A 9 month old puppy that was now being told we need to be careful, restrict and be mindful of what we do.

I absolutely love the inclusiveness of this sport. We adapt and work with the team in front of us.

I can't wait to share this with you. First dates to go live for May, in the Lincoln area, very soon.

Who is excited? 😁🐾

One of the many amazing things about Mantrailing is that it is fully accessible to all dogs, regardless of age, breed or disability. As well as providing physical exercise, Mantrailing also engages your dog's incredible olfactory senses, giving them an intense mental workout.

It was a year ago yesterday that we received Riley's hip dysplasia diagnosis. Our already shakey relationship shattered even more 😪 It's no secret he was a difficult puppy but I guess we had some answers - his HD no doubt fueling some of his behaviour.

I was gutted. I cried. I felt cheated. I'd sought a health tested puppy for the first time and I was dealt a blow like this. I had no idea what our life could be. I was just told "restrictions". He was 8 months old! A working breed. He hates restrictions!

Luckily a few weeks in, I found an amazing hip dysplasia management group and have learnt so much to support him. I now see a life of possibilities rather than restrictions.

One of our "detours" on life's journey was trying our hand at mantrailing. I don't think I'd have ever tried it had it not been for his HD. I've never found the buzz for scentwork, but this was something we could do together, in a controlled manner, and it worked his brain. It changed our life. Our relationship and understanding of each other grew. We were communicating. He's turned into an amazing trailing dog. He blows me away with how good he is and rarely do I give him credit for the good bits about him ❤️

Our difficult dogs are here to teach us, and take us on journeys we didn't see coming. I'm looking forward to bringing Mantrailing to even more dogs. I love the inclusiveness and community that comes with it. I thank my difficult Puppy-Dup for bringing it into our lives (and our amazing instructors).
