DFW Cocker Spaniel Rescue On average DFWCSR finds homes for over 200 dogs each year. Our first priority is taking the dogs from a kill shelter.

DFW Cocker Spaniel Rescue is a 501 (C)(3) non-profit organization that works to rescue, rehabilitate and rehome Cocker Spaniels in need in the North Texas area. DFW Cocker Spaniel Rescue is a canine rescue based, 501 (C)(3) non-profit organization, dedicated to rescuing, fostering and finding qualified adopters for many homeless Cocker Spaniels in the DFW Metroplex. Each dog is fully vetted with s

pay/neuter, full rounds of shots, with special attention to ears and eyes. We also educate the public on the proper care and needs of Cocker Spaniels and the continuing need to spay and neuter our animals. We take in dogs with mange, puppy mill raid dogs, abused, and senior dogs, not just the young and healthy. We have been doing rescue work for many years. It is a labor of love for our breed and dogs in general.

🐝 Honey Bee Pupdate 🐝

So, we've been bathing Honey weekly because she walks through everything and often dips her ears in her food and water (they get really stinky). She had a little body odor when she first arrived, but that seems to have resolved with bathing.

Tonight when drying her after the bath, I found another nasty spot like the ones on her chest, on top of her head, her shoulder and her other ear... these just open up on their own. I only found it because the high-velocity dog hair dryer does such a fantastic job of 'parting' her hair down to the skin.

Thankfully, it wasn't the first time we've dealt with these spots and we know what to do for her. I got the scissors and little electric trimmer and we cleaned the spot thoroughly, applied the same "silver spray" medicine the vet gave us and finished her Majestic Blowout.

She is now happy and comfortable and has hung her stocking by the Chimney with Care.

🌈 In Memoriam: Goldie

July 17, 2008- Nov 19, 2024

Marigold "Goldie" (Dulce) was a happy, confident fun loving, fearless dog who lived to eat. We are grateful to her original owners who gave her the gift of a happy soul. It served her well through the changes in her life. Not all rescues are as lucky. We are grateful to DFWCSR for taking a chance on a blind shelter dog and giving her vision in one eye for 4 and a half years. Your gamble paid off.

We are grateful to her wonderful fosters Jim and Leah who doted on her from the shelter through her transition to us. Thank you for trusting us with this wonderful dog.

Goldie was lucky to have a lot of people in her life who loved her. We know we weren't her first love but we were proud, happy and grateful to have been her last love. We loved her hard.

🍂 Alumni Update: Chester

We’re thrilled to share an update about Chester. He was adopted this August after several weeks of recovery from cherry eye and neutering. Since finding his forever home, he has truly flourished. He’s become a beloved member of the family, showering everyone with affection and joy.

Chester has formed a special bond with the family’s son. They are inseparable - whether they're playing fetch in the yard or cuddling on the couch for movie nights. Chester’s playful nature and gentle demeanor make him the perfect companion, and it warms our hearts to see their friendship grow.

Every day is an adventure for Chester filled with walks, treats, and plenty of tail wags. He’s living his best life, and we couldn’t be happier for him and his wonderful family!

Check out Chester’s Halloween costume! 🎃

🍂 Meet Benny!

Benny is a handsome young Cocker mix, estimated to be 2-3 years old. He came to DFW Cocker Spaniel Rescue as a stray, severely underweight and heartworm positive, but that is behind him now. This boy is definitely ready to find a forever home where he can finally be a dog instead of a patient.

Benny is strong and smart. He enjoys affection and likes to be near his people. If you work from home he will keep you company in your office. He loves to go for walks, sniffing around, and "commenting" on everything outdoors. He is friendly with people as long as you let him approach someone who wants to meet him. He doesn’t care much about toys. Given his start in life he may not understand what they are, but he would probably enjoy chasing a ball and some playful interaction.

The ideal home for Benny would have no other pets or very laid-back, mellow pets and only older children (13+). We have no idea about cats, though we know he is fascinated by squirrels. He would do best with someone who works from home or is home most of the time.

Benny is a young energetic dog who will be a fine companion. Would you be willing to help this sweet boy find his forever home?

If you would like to meet Benny, please complete our adoption application and put his name at the top. Our application and detailed info about our process can be found on our website: https://dfwcockerrescue.org/adoption-process/

If you are already an approved adopter and you would like to meet Benny, please contact us at [email protected].

🌈 In Memoriam: Duchess

The hardest day this week was when our precious Duchess, after 14 plus years, crossed over the Rainbow Bridge. Duchess was rescued because of Beverly Miles from DFW Cocker Spaniel Rescue who introduced her to us. It was love at first sight and a foster failure!

There are so many memories of fun antics with Duchess providing free entertainment. Chasing her ball, loving Amazon packages to sniff and try to open, watching over us and her pure unconditional love till the very end, which will be sorely missed every day. She knew how to cheer me up and was my daughters' therapy dog. My heart is broken. 💔 Her paw print is forever in my heart and her sweet nose kisses always remembered. The squirrels, bunnies and birds will miss her. She protected the wildlife in our yard and thought they were her playmates. She loved being outdoors in the gardens exploring and gazing at the stars and moon.🌌

Duchess will be missed at every birthday because she loved helping unwrap presents.🎁 Christmas will not be the same but she will be honored as my forever Snoopy dog.🎄She had personality and let others know it. Our other fur baby Brandy, also adopted, is missing her buddy Duchess. She helped all of us remember what was important, loving each other always! 💔🐾❤️

🌈 In Memoriam: Rocky

I guess the best way to describe Rocky was the fact that 90% of the time we called him sweet boy and the rest of the time he was sweetest sweet boy. He had such a gentle heart. The first time we saw him Ernie and I looked at each other and thought, “hmm.” However, once a dog is in our presence the chances of us saying no are slim and I am so glad we did not.

Rocky was some dog. He acclimated quickly to our home, or should I say our home acclimated quickly to him. It was a great blessing to see how he recognized our house when we were out walking and began heading home. He knew where he belonged. He had his cubbies all around the house where he would sleep, but his favorite place was in Ernie’s office wrapped around his chair, so the moment Ernie moved Rocky would know. After all there could be a snack involved and usually was. He and Ernie shared toast together every morning first thing.

Rocky was woven into every moment of our days. My dog sitter called him Velcro because he was always next to you. When he still was able to see fairly well, he loved watching TV. He would sit on the couch resting on a pillow and when an animal came on the screen he would jump down and bark, then return to his post to await the next “intruder.”

We were grateful to be able to care for him as his health declined. It meant diapers, lots of clean up, early morning wake ups, guiding him in the right direction, special food, medicine, and other things. Actually, a very small price to pay for such an amazing dog. It was a privilege to care for him.
