We get lots of questions about Bonding. Here is a great webinar if you have questions about the bonding process! I am not associated with this webinar, but support it thoroughly.

We are partnering with The Bunnyjackpot Foundation on another bonding webinar next month since the last one was so well attended ✨

Heather is a self-proclaimed behavior geek 🙂 In the webinar she will cover ethical rabbit-led bonding, normal behaviors, the importance of companionship for our bunny friends, and much more. Heather has over ten years of experience with bonding and has bonded THOUSANDS of rabbits to date, including many with “problematic” behaviors. She has been a featured speaker at The National Rabbit Festival for the past two years where she has presented on bonding & behavior as well ✨ This webinar is informative for folks at all experience levels!

The cost of the webinar will be $27 USD and proceeds will be split between our two rescues so will benefit the buns in our care 🐇🐇🐇

This will be hosted on Zoom and is open to anyone worldwide.

Please email [email protected] to sign up! Space is limited!

Important update about RHDV2 Vaccine!!

Amendment to Our Recent Post on RHD Vaccination Recommendations 🐰💉

We’d like to provide clarification on our recent post regarding the US Rabbit Hemorrhagic Disease (RHD) vaccine by Medgene.

In our original post, we mentioned that Medgene updated the label to recommend vaccination every 6 months. This statement is not entirely accurate and has caused some confusion among veterinarians and rabbit owners. Here's what you need to know:
- Medgene’s label: The current label does not require a booster every 6 months. Instead, the label states that the vaccine has been shown to be effective for at least 6 months based on data from a duration of immunity (DOI) study.
- Booster schedule: Veterinarians are encouraged to use both Medgene's efficacy data and additional data, such as the serology response study conducted by Colorado State University, to make informed decisions about when to booster the vaccine. This study suggests that immunity lasts beyond 6 months, with sufficient levels seen up to a year post-vaccination.
- Clarification on label: There has not been an official label change on the vaccine. The label does not currently specify when booster vaccinations must occur after the initial series (two vaccines, 21 days apart), allowing veterinarians to use their discretion.

We sincerely apologize for any confusion caused and recommend rabbit owners consult with their veterinarians to determine the most appropriate vaccination schedule for their pets. 🐇

You can read more about the serology study here: https://doi.org/10.3390/v16040538

Thank you for your understanding!

Due to recent events, we think it is a great idea to review an example of an emergency plan for Tornados.

What can you do before inclement weather?
Ensure your pets are microchipped and your information is updated on the microchip site.
Ensure your Emergency Kit is created for each animal.
Please make sure you have a list of emergency vets in case there is an injury after the event.

What should you do in case of bad weather?
Keep an eye on the weather channel, apps, and news. Always get your information from multiple sources to ensure you get the most up-to-date information.
Be prepared to move all animals to a lower level, interior of the house, away from windows. If you have a basement, that is ideal.
If your bunny isn't used to being held, you may want to put them in the carrier early, but I grab them as soon as there is a Watch.
Your basement or safe area should have an emergency kit that contains fresh hay, water, pellets, and any medications your bun is on in case you have to hunker down for long periods. I always ensure I have critical care and gas drops in my kit as well.
You may want to cover the carrier with a blanket to create a safe dark den for your bunny.
When the Watch has been lifted, go ahead and bring your rabbit back to their enclosure when it is safe to do so. Keep an eye on your pet but do it from afar so you don't cause them to worry. Ensure they are eating, drinking, and pooping. As they just went through a stressful situation.

What else do you do in case of a tornado/bad weather? Did I miss anything? Share below!

After the storms yesterday, we just wanted to let everyone know we are safe. Everyone spent some time in the basement until the storms passed. This is a great reminder to make sure you have a tornado action plan that includes all your animals!!

Did You Know?

Rabbits need to eat hay not just because of its nutritional value, but it also helps them grind down their teeth.

At BunnyBinkyland, we provide all our guests with Unlimited Hay that is refreshed 2x daily as well as timothy hay pellets. This is included in your bun's stay's daily price.

If you have any questions, feel free to call/text 630-815-8887 or email [email protected]

Unfortunately, Rabbit Hemorrhagic Disease has made its way to Illinois. Because it is contagious, we must require vaccinations for ALL rabbits being boarded. Please provide documentation upon request. It is an annual vaccine so you can ask your vet during your annual exams!

To find more information about this disease and to find a location with the vaccine, please check out https://rabbit.org/health/rhd/

I've had a rise in people asking if I sell rabbits. I do not. I only do boarding and grooming. However, there are lots of rabbits available for adoption throughout the Chicagoland area.

Consider checking out Petfinder and find local rabbits available for adoption.

One thing all bunny people should know is about Rabbit P**p!!

P.O.O.P!

Keep an 👁️ on your bunny's 💩! A change in the size and/or number of poops can be your first indicator of something amiss with your bunny.

Wild rabbits are at the bottom of the food chain and our domestic rabbits still think they are too. They always hide illnesses so predators don't think that they are an easy meal. We must always be checking to ensure that they aren't sick. Ignoring signals such a change in their poops can result in death.

Did you know rabbits can eat the entire dandelion from root to bulb? Just make sure they are pesticide-free. You can even buy the greens at the supermarket.

What other greens does your rabbit love?

Did you know your bun's nails should be trimmed every 2-3 months?

Tips for cutting Bunny Nails
1) Use a flashlight (or the flashlight on your phone) to identify the quick
2) Trim the tips using bunny-safe clippers staying away from the pink quick.
3) If you cut the quick, put pressure on it and use bloodstop to stop the bleeding. It may take several minutes.

If your bunny is fussy, you may need to wrap them in a towel or small blanket in what we call a bunny burrito.

OR, contact us to have us trim your bunny's nails. Nail Trims are $10 and super quick. If your bunny isn't easy to get into a carrier, we also do mobile grooming within 40 miles of Aurora (there is a travel fee).

Today is National Heat Awareness Day. So it's a great way to talk about keeping your bun cool.

Try a frozen water bottle
Put ice cubes in their water. Make sure they have cool water and that they are hydrated.
Put a tile square in the freezer so they can lay on a cool surface.
Make sure your buns live in an air conditioned space.

What do you use to keep your bunnies cool?
