Spaying for change is happening this November 9 through the 17th this year. We do this as several rescues share the same vet teams. The concept is to show the world the huge need for help as the overpopulation of animals is insane, we are all working together to make a difference. ALL RESCUES ARE INCLUDED IF THEY WANT, please spread the word. We just found out the cost of each surgery has gone up, not a big deal right? Wrong! We do 300 surgeries in a day, any extra costs slay us. Please, if you know a rescue that is participating, please donate. You all have no idea what a rescuer deals with daily, these warriors deal with insane abuse of animals, People being mad because there is no space for another animal, huge vet bills, a never ending day every single day and they do it because their hearts are bigger than most(certainly not for the money, most are volunteers). Instead of asking a rescue to help you, ask what you can do to help, I guarantee tears of thankfulness. If you dont have time, donate, seriously, I know Starbucks does nothing for your community and yet people manage 10 dollars a day there. Think what that money could do for the animals! LULU is looking for her forever home. She is about 4 1/2 years old and fixed and healthy. She is super sweet and very affectionate. Loves people and gets along with all the other dogs here at Chiquita's Friends. Loves to walk, eat and take long naps (on my bed ) She is spoiled rotten as she deserves to be.

GEURRA/GOLDIE has been adopted!! One year ago almost to the day we pulled her, her sister Cleo and 15 puppies from the landfill/dump in Los Cabos.

I am so grateful almost in tears I am so happy for her. Truly a miracle in these days of very few large dogs getting adopted. She will go to a lovely ranch in Camarillo with Pat, a retired gentleman with horses and land. He is PERFECT for her. And she has hikes and beach walks in her future.

Goldie is just hanging around waiting for the perfect home. Despite a very hard life living at the landfill in Los Cabos Mexico, she is sweetest girl. Her sister got adopted yesterday and ahe is feeling a bit blue. Young, healthy, fixed, vaxed she is ready to go. She is the smartest dog we have ever seen

Meade Canine Rescue and Chiquita's Friends are bringing spay and neuter to Bakersfield and Porterville, California, after years of helping animals in Mexico.

Thanks to the amazing and committed Diane Bentz, DVM, from Simi Valley Non-Profit Spay and Neuter Clinic, we are bringing the work that makes a difference home to local communities in dire need.

we will spay and neuter 100 dogs in Bakersfield and 50 dogs in Porterville. It’s a drop in the bucket but it’s a start and won't be our only clinic.

If you understand the issues of overpopulation resulting in the huge numbers of healthy animals killed, you also understand exponentially how many lives are saved through spay and neuter.

A donation of $65 covers one canine and will be greatly appreciated

FAMILY is everything in this life. In this case this is my restaurant QuiadaiynCatering Hector Martinez invited me to his daughters wedding today. Melissa is the beautiful bride and I have known Melissa since she was a twinkle in her father‘s eye. Hector met his beautiful wife, Carmen in 1991 while opening Lula Cocina Mexicana - Santa Monica Lula restaurant. They got married, had kids and they are all my family. A trip down memory lane with the guests, many of them worked in at least one of my restaurants. Hector worked his way up from dishwasher at Gilliland’s to head chef of Jake and Annie’s and Finn Mc Cools. If you ever had a party or a wedding at Rancho Chiquita, please note that in the video you will see the well used stove that we cooked on for 26 years to do all those weddings backyard weddings and fundraisers. I am so happy to see Hector still using it today for his daughters wedding breakfast. It certainly has a lot of memories especially if you are one of my brides at Rancho Chiquita you can relate to this. Hector worked for me for 33 years (unheard of in the restaurant business) Congratulations to the Martinez family.

Dear Friends WARNING GRAPHIC !

When I first started rescuing dogs in Mexico, I was heartbroken by what I saw:
• Dogs dumped by their owners to die in landfills

• Skinny, malnourished street dogs breaking their teeth because they ate rocks for food

• Dogs with broken limbs because they were horrifically abused by their owners

These things are heartbreaking which is why I’ve dedicated my life to helping these beautiful animals who deserve another chance at life. These gracious animals are sweet, loving, and want nothing but a happy home.

This leads me to our sweet new friend Bella. I met Bella and her owner on Sunday November 12th at our Spaying For Change Event in San Jose Del Cabo. Bella is a 3 year old Doberman who has a really bad case of TVT -Trans Venereal Tumor, a highly contagious cancer. Her owner is a Mexican Transit Police Officer who was working at our big event helping with traffic. Jose Luis told me that he cannot afford to pay for her chemotherapy and he was very sad and actually started to cry. How could I not try to help? TVT is a very painful agonizing death. I introduced Jose Luis to our amazing veterinarian Dr Sol and we all agreed that Chiquita’s Friends would sponsor her chemotherapy, which she is in desperate need of.

Bella has one of the worst cases of TVT that I have ever seen, but Dr Sol assured me that she has seen much worse and her condition is very treatable. We started her chemo yesterday. 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏

Bella also needs medication to solve her ehrlichia, a common bacteria that she has developed. We cannot treat her for this until the cancer is gone. She is also not fixed.

Icant say enough about the teams that worked together to make this joint effort possible. Together we spayed/neutered 1000+ animals. Our goal was 1000, we did it and still have a couple teams working!. That shatters the récord in Mexico previously! MEXICALI clinic is a 3.5 hour drive and our weary volunteers are going to do it all over again.

Spaying For Change starts tomorrow and goes until Sunday at 4 o’clock. A huge amount of effort has been put into the planning of this event and it is going to take place in Tijuana Mexicali, Ensenada Cabo, San, Lucas San, José del Cabo, la Paz, and last Barilles if anyone would like to make a last-minute donation, it’s only $25 to sponsor one dog or cat.
