Did my yearly drop off to Black Horse Forge!
I started doing this last year once I found out about these special people. I save all my shoes and rasps (what I don't recycle into something myself) to donate, they are a non-profit that give back to the veterans. Hope they can make some cool stuff 😎

I've been waiting for this mama to drop. Met her filly today 3 weeks old. And the sweetest little thing. As you can see I woke her from a deep nap 😆.
Babies can be a pain at times as a farrier. They are wiggly, they have loose joints so they can kick you in ways you didn't think is possible. They make you question your sanity at times. But we as farriers are super proud when we stick it out with the youngsters, when things finally click for them it's as big of a moment for us as it is for the owner.
I personally really enjoy that part of the job. Watching them grow and eventually be grown horses with a job and purpose.

Happy Valentines day 🐎 ❤️

Hard to believe these are all of the same foot!!
It takes a LONG time for a horse to recover from founder. If they ever do. But it also takes a team! The vets the farriers and mostly the owners dedication 🩷 today was one of those days where I felt like ok I think we got this

Spending the last working day of the year with the old man 💙 he doesn't get to ride with me much any more with the long days and the older he's gotten the more temperature sensitive he's is.
But when I say "Bruno, wanna go to work?" He trots straight to the truck without missing a beat.

When I hear someone say, "My horse deserves a better rider" it breaks my heart a little bit.

Because you know what?

Recreational riders are the BEST thing that has happened to horses worldwide.

DON'T feel bad for not competing, or working your horse everyday, or that so-and-so is riding at a higher level than you are.

DON'T feel guilty if you don't want to show.
Or jump higher.
Or jump at all.
Or canter.
Or even ride!

What matters TO YOUR HORSE is that their physical needs are met and their mental and emotional well-being is cared for.

And caring is what most amateur owners can do better than ANYONE else.

Most horses don't NEED or WANT to be ridden at a professional or competitive level. With few exceptions, most horses left to their own devices just want to hang out in the field with their friends eating.

It's great to want to improve your communication and riding skills.

And If your goal is to do more athletic and difficult things, then yes, you owe it to your horse to learn to be a good dance partner and pilot for him

AT THAT LEVEL, BUT...
.. No one sets that level but you. And you CAN be good for your horse at ANY level.

No shame, backyard horse owners!

You shall inherit the earth.
