Prepping for the clinic to make it interactive

Even when a farrier is not working...we're working.
Snow days mean catch up on scheduling, and prep for the hoofcare clinic.
This is also something to keep in mind.
Even if your not my client and you follow this page, your Farrier does a lot more than shoeing horses.

1. We have to order supplies, this meaning taking inventory. Going over our lists of horses making sure we have the correct supplies for their needs.
2. Scheduling. As most of us love to schedule the next apt before we leave. It doesn't always work out. Or people need to reschedule.
3. Continued Education. This could be as simple as webinars or research. Or more complicated by traveling to different clinics.
4. Billing and accounting. Not all of us have accountants to do this for us. Most of us do all the paperwork and filing on our own. We have to keep up with our county and state licensing, pay estimated taxes, keep up with milage and expenses. The list goes on.
5. Most of us farriers will at times be presented with a horse that boggles us on how to "fix it". This is when most times we need to talk with the vets. Go over xrays, and annalize. Communicate with fellow farriers (yes we do on occasion talk to each other).
6. We do actually worry about your horse. We WANT them to be comfortable. I can't speak for all farriers, but I can for myself when I say my heart breaks when the horse is in pain. It's somthing that says with us.
7. A lot of times our family comes last 💔 so if we say no I can't come tack a shoe on Fluffy at 9pm at night. It's because we don't spend enough time being present at home. Just because we maybe home, doesn't mean we're not doing somthing of the above list.

Attention clients:

As we're getting into our rainy season, please do not hose mud off of the horses legs (unless they have time to dry). I'd personally rather you just brush the mud off and have some towels handy.
If you have the option to bring them in a stall ahead of time that would be appreciated. If not towels would be great... I'd rather be a little muddy than cold and wet 😆
Also if there's no place out of the rain to work we may need to reschedule. I don't reschedule for weather days before as the weather can change at the drop of a hat.
