Other ways to help include sharing our posts, adopting, or donating to one of our life saving programs. Our goal here is to rescue and educate. I have always loved animals and have been a pet owner since I was a small child. I have always been the one to take in every stray that showed up at my home and pick up every stray or lost animal I would see. I have picked up dogs, cats, birds, rodents, an

d even a llama once. I have found owners of lost animals and seen the beautiful reunion of ones that I have been able to get back home. I try to educate pet owners on how to keep their pets with them and to be there for those animals that just need some love and care. I will rescue those animals which have been neglected or abused and rehabilitate them. If you are interested in helping in any way please contact me via email or private message. Foster homes are always needed as well. Donations can be made by paypal at [email protected]

As you all know, we are dealing with an outbreak of canine influenza in our dogs. After chatting with our felines this morning, we get the impression that they don't understand what this has to do with them?!?!

The more we thought about it, the more we realized they are right! We currently have 58 cats and kittens on the hunt for a new home. As of noon today, we will open back up for cat adoptions. We have reduced their fees to $10 with the encouragement that adopters will donate towards our Pet Treatment funds. If you choose to adopt and donate, please don't tell our cats. They will be highly offended. Obviously they are truly worth BILLIONS of dollars.

We understand some of the shelters are closed. Please understand we are not able to take in strays, found dogs, etc.. I in no way have places for all the animals to go that I'm getting calls and messages about. I can barely keep up with the ones in our area. Please don't tag us or send us the strays all over the Montgomery area.

Let's say you are walking along a path, minding your own business, when you stumble across this. Mom is dead but the babies aren't. You collect the babies because you don't know what else to do. You decide you'll take them for now, keeping them safe, until you find a rehabber. You start researching the state website for permitted options and find there are 13 for the entire state BUT not all take opossums. Some can only accept birds, some only deer and so forth. Now you are really confused because you just want to help these innocent animals. You call around and the one closest to you, which happens to be an over hour drive, can't help because they are already too full. Probably because there are so few options for our 5 million plus AL citizens. You are starting to panic. You contact the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources and they tell you to let nature take its course and to toss the babies in the woods, where they will die a slow and tragic death (they leave that part out though). Now imagine you can't do that. That's not morally right to you. You decide to take care of them yourself and guess what, that now makes you a criminal! Now what if I told you people were applying to be licensed rehabbers and are being ignored or treated rudely when they ask questions. Would that make you mad? You are now a compassionate individual, who is technically a criminal, because our state failed to do their job and provide adequate resources for our citizens and wildlife. This happens EVERY DAY in Alabama. Why isn't this changing? Because people that are helping the animals illegally are afraid of speaking up. Because not enough people are forcing the issue. Because citizens don't realize the issue until it becomes their issue. Please help us speak up. Please help us be their voice. Please contact your Conservation Advisory Board Members and let them know you want rehabilitation resources. We must change this. Compassion is not a criminal act. This is the link to the Conservation Advisory Board Members in AL. They can bring these issues up the the Commissioner, who can help change this situation. https://www.facebook.com/AWCRS/photos/a.103740385285056/345336664458759/ Thank you.

Proof that what we are doing is working. The last two people who followed my directions on strays played a big role in saving these dogs. Toby on the right was found skinny, full of fleas and ticks, skittish, and with lots of internal parasites. His finder took him to the shelter per my request and made the found report on him. He gave his contact information and mine and let me know who he spoke to at the shelter at drop off. I was able to reach out to her and stay in touch. Once his stray hold was up they paid for all his vetting except his neuter and microchip. Then they transferred him to me. I picked him up and had the remaining vet care done. A few weeks later Toby was on his way to his forever home up in Maine with New England Lab Rescue.

Skye the brown puppy has a similar story. She will transfer up to New England in a few weeks herself. Her finders chose to foster her after she was reported to the shelter and waited on her stray hold to be up. We love happy endings.

Items we use.
Did you know that when you donate our frequently used items such as foods, kitty litter, cleaning supplies, and flea meds that allow us to have more funds for our daily operations, vet care, and animal emergencies? We always have a need for cat and dog food, cleaning supplies, and cat litter. We are so grateful to all of you who have donated, shared our posts, fostered, adopted, and volunteered in some way over the last 7 years. We absolutely could not keep doing this without every single one of you.
THANK YOU!!
