ADVANCED Horse brain course
July 16/17, 2024

Mark will participate in three exciting collaborative clinics. The first is with Jim Masterson of The Masterson Method, Integrated Equine Performance Bodywork. This three-day clinic features evaluations by both Jim and Mark, a one-on-one lesson with Mark, and the opportunity to observe Jim at work. Auditors and riders alike love this clinic for its wealth of information.

Immediately after that clinic, we enhance the learning experience by including Dr. Steve Peters in our popular introductory horse brain clinic, "Your Horse's Brain: A User's Manual." Bring a big notebook and plenty of questions, as this clinic combines brain science with horse training and equine bodywork. Dr. Peters is an internationally known scientist and horseman, and the coauthor of Evidence-Based Horsemanship. Every year he adds new information to these lectures.

And just when you thought it couldn't get any better, we're offering an ADVANCED Horse Brain course with Dr. Peters and Mark for the second time this year. The mornings are dedicated to classroom sessions, diving deeper into the topics covered in the introductory horse brain course. In the afternoons, Dr. Peters and Mark demonstrate how horse brain science can be practically applied to working with horses. This is a course you won't want to miss!

Two scenes from our last road trip to South Carolina: the Stan Musial Bridge, and Atlanta rush hour. Despite leaving Illinois early, we were delayed on I24, which put us into the heart of Atlanta exactly at rush hour instead of arriving at our destination at 4 pm, we pulled in at 8 pm. Big huge thanks to our hosts for a late dinner and laughter after a long and intense drive. We’re looking forward to the clinics here, and can’t wait to work with horses and their people!

Who We Are

Mark Rashid is an internationally known author and horseman known for his ability to understand the horse’s point of view and solve difficult problems with communication rather than force. He began working with horses at age ten, when he met the “old man,” who taught him to work with horses, not against them, and to listen to what the horse is trying to say. Mark’s clinics center on one-on-one work with horse and rider and are immensely popular with people around the world

When Mark decided to study the martial art of aikido as a way to improve his horsemanship, he brought the same quiet determination to it that he exhibits in his work with horses. After years of practice, he has earned a second-degree black belt in Yoshinkan aikido and now teaches the “way of harmony” in the local dojo.

Mark worked full time on ranches for many years gathering herds, managing stock, and training horses. When time permits, he still enjoys working on ranches near his home in Estes Park, Colorado as well as playing guitar professionally with his friends.

Mark has been a guest on NPR’s The Horse Show and was featured on the Nature series on PBS. He is the author of fourteen books including: Considering the Horse, Horses Never Lie, Life Lessons from a Ranch Horse, Horsemanship Through Life, Whole Heart, Whole Horse, Journey to Softness, and Finding The Missed Path, as well as a novel, Out of the Wild. He also has two music CD’s: Song of the Prairie and Making Good Time, recorded with his good friend Brad Fitch.
