Hi folks, we are back from a bit of a break to see family. A few updates:

-The 77469 spay-neuter grant through Fort Bend County Pets - Fort Bend County Animal Services is on a pause. We are hoping they will work things out, but the issues are beyond us and even above the level of the shelter administration. If they can get that going again, ya'll will be the first to know. Even if they do not utilize our services in the future, we will make sure to post any free spay-neuter opportunities on this page. We want FBC residents to be informed and take advantage of any opportunities offered to them, regardless of who financially benefits.

- That said, we are fully open to taking public appointments from all zip codes again. We have opened all of our available November and December dates for surgery and wellness.

- We are taking the last two weeks of the year off to rest, rejuvenate, and enjoy time with our loved ones. If you are wanting to take advantage of our 2024 prices (YES, there are price increases coming!!) you can schedule on our website furthervet.org.

Thank you for your patience. We are grateful to be here and to serve the community and their pets.

When you have your pet spayed or neutered, the post-op care is just as important as the surgery itself. We offer E collars, otherwise known as cones to prevent pets from licking or chewing their incision.

Stevie Nicks here is demonstrating how her owners chose to make sure she couldn't access her spay incision. We love to see responsible pet parents!

One year ago we purchased this truck with nothing but some cash and a dream. 365 days later, we are almost at FIVE HUNDRED surgeries completed in it. We can’t think of a better way to celebrate than by offering free surgeries thanks to partner shelters! November and December dates will open this week— stay tuned 🚚

Did you know that Fort Bend County Animal Services has a program to provide free spay-neuter services to community cats? This is a humane way to control local feral population 🐱

Thank you to Further Animal Outreach and our dedicated volunteers for partnering with us for a 3rd time to spay/neuter 27 cats and 3 dogs!

In the Animal Welfare profession we are tasked with caring for, rescuing, and saving the lives of all types of animals. We are their voice in society and in the justice system. We are also sometimes the last love and compassion they feel when we have to carry the hard job of euthanasia.

But how do we deal with the day in and day out exposures to physical and emotional traumas?
💔Substance abuse
💔Angry outbursts
💔Withdrawal & Isolation
💔Unhealthy eating habits

Caring and fighting for the animals we love has to start with putting ourselves first. 💓Let go of the guilt and shame associated with self-care.
💓 Drink water
💓 Talk to a trusted friend or colleague
💓 Reach out to a trained Peer
💓 Speak to a therapist or counselor

You matter and your mental health matters. During it's important to address our own mental health needs and take the time to put ourselves first.

We are very excited to see the Rosenberg Animal Control and Shelter has begun a community pet pantry!

🐶PET PANTRY🐱 In continuing to reach our goal of supporting community owned pets, we have finally set up our new Community Pet Pantry! Completely donation funded, this pantry aims to support City of Rosenberg residents and their pets for FREE. Supply is limited and based solely on what is donated to us, therefore proof of residency (ID/Drivers Livense & Utility Bills) is required when coming for supplies! Stop by during any of our regular business hours if you are in need!

Today we were at Friends of North Rosenberg for a free spay-neuter event sponsored by Shelter Pets Advocacy Network. 25 cats and 1 dog were sterilized for the citizens of Rosenberg at no cost to the owners.

💭💭💭Today was tough. The need is real. People brought more animals than they were signed up for; people that didn’t sign up at all brought animals. People were told we could squeeze them in without us ever being consulted. TWO CATS WERE EVEN ABANDONED. We apologize to those who were registered but were not served today. We are working actively on getting more days in this area funded so we can continue bringing service to those that need it.

🙏🏼 🔈Lastly, this mission would not be possible without veterinary technicians. A vet is nothing without good technicians, and damn it if I’m not the luckiest. Katy, AJ, Leila, Paige, and Ashley, my dream would have never taken flight without every single one of you.

My sincerest gratitude,

Dr. B

October dates are now FILLED! We will post when additional dates are opened.

UPDATE: ALL appointments have been filled for the month of October.

We know how important these services are and we are working on securing additional dates and will let you know when we have them.

Again this is a grant that was targeted specifically for the 77469 zip code so at this time, this is the area that is eligible for services. Thank you.

You asked, and we answered! We are now offering FREE SPAYS AND NEUTERS!

We are partnering with Fort Bend County Pets - Fort Bend County Animal Services to provide residents of 77469 free spays or neuters for up to two pets per household, including a rabies vaccination and microchip. See attached graphic for the steps to sign up.

❌📲☎️ PS: Don’t qualify? Contact your city council or county commissioner to sponsor opportunities like this. Our goal is to work with local government to provide veterinary care for pet owners who cannot afford it otherwise. We cannot fix the pet overpopulation crisis without free spay-neuter services.

So far TWO no shows this morning. And this is after yesterday’s FOUR wellness appointments that no showed. Folks, we have to do better than this. Please pay attention to the time and dates when booking your appointments. We are booked out weeks in advance and there are pet owners that could use these appointments.

We will be requiring deposits soon in order to book surgical appointments. We are struggling with such high rates of no shows.

Our director is having lots of fun at MEGA Adoption Event today! If you have been thinking of adopting a cat or dog, attend Houston’s Mega adoption event at George R. Brown Convention Center tomorrow to see over 1,000 adoptable animals from local area shelters.

Another successful day with SOCA - FBC!! 31 animals sterilized and vaccinated, including 4 feral cats receiving veterinary care for the very first time.

We enjoy working with responsible rescues. We still hold out hope that Doggedly Dog Rescue Society, run by Barbara Zuluaga, will come forward and pay the rest of their bill from April 6 & 7. If they do, we will notify all giving people whom have donated since to give the option of returning their funds or contrinuting to our general donation fund. If they do not, we hope to at least prevent other veterinarians from being stolen from by sharing our horrible experience.

Actions speak the loudest. We are listening.
