I love my little co-pilot Daphne DooDooPants! She is feeling like a million bucks after having those rotten teeth pulled! She is back to eating softened kibble and a bit of wet food mixed in like a champ! She can finally give us sweet, gummy kisses too! We love seeing how much better she feels after her procedure! We still need to raise funds for her dental however. Please consider making a donation, big or small, to our small rescue and help us help these special kids ❤️
We appreciate you all!

Here is the much awaited "Daphne Doo Dah" update!

Shawn and I picked Daph up in Spokane on July 6th and met with Alice and Larry. The following Monday, I took her down to my work and had her checked out by the vets. Daphne is a sweet and healthy girl but needed some medical issues addressed, the biggest one being her teeth. Little dogs are very prone to dental disease a lot earlier in life and Daphne is no different.
So, we scheduled a dental for the following day (Tuesday, 07/09) because she had a few teeth that really needed to come out, or so we thought!
When Daphne was under and dental x-rays were taken, we discovered pretty much every tooth in her mouth was rotten and she had 2 oronasal fistulas! These fistulas are a result of severe dental disease and are basically an open pathway between her oral and nasal cavities, which were causing her to shoot some serious snot rockets!
In total we extracted 19 teeth, and the poor girl has only 2 left! We fixed her fistulas as well and she did excellent under anesthesia. Daphne woke up as always just happy to be around people and a big gummy smile on her face! I will post her dental chart for those of you who are interested!
We need to raise some funds to cover the cost of this dental and here is where we could really use your help!
Please share this post and consider making a donation (entirely tax-deductible!) to the rescue to help us cover the cost of her dental!

It's Wiggles Wednesday! They may not walk great but dang do they make up for it with cuddles!!! These 2 peas in a pod have not had any solid interest yet! Come on guys, I know we can find them a great home! Don't apply for these guys if you hate cuteness, a great personality and belly laughing at funny dog antics! These sweeties get along with all manner of pets and humans alike! Name a better duo, I'll wait 😉

Hi friends! It's been a while since we've hopped on here but Patrick and Portia aka the Wiggles need homes! Their current adopter is going through a hard time and needs to find these babies a good home! They are the MOST low-key, low maintenance pups! They are about 5-6 years old now.

A little history on this adorable duo, these two are a bonded pair, i.e. they have to be adopted together. They have Cerebellar Hypoplasia hence they are appropriately named "The Wiggles"! They don't do well on stairs and slick floors. These guys need a forever home, but even a dedicated foster to step up will do! Honestly they need a couch to crash on till they find their perfect home!

Their current adopter Alice, a long time loyal follower is happy to fill you guys in on any info about this sweet pair of siblings! Please reach out to us via DM, FB Messenger or email at [email protected] and we will show you why your home has a Wiggles-shaped hole in it 🥰🥰

I'd like to introduce you guys to a newish face around here! This is our personal puppy, Dug the dawg! We had 0 plans to add to our personal dog brood but this guy wormed his way into the pack at 16 weeks old! He is a red Queensland Heeler and my goodest buddy! He loves all the pups and they all love him ❤️ 💕

Marvel enjoying the last few days of summer! She is still up for adoption and ready to go to a new home! Marvel is incontinent and would do better in a home where she is not left alone for a long time as she loves her people! This girl can clock in quite a few miles in her wheels and enjoys activity and hiking! If you're looking for a Netflix and cuddle kinda buddy, she is the one for you! At a petite 25lbs, she is the perfect size for most people!
Marvel is a very special girl and we KNOW the perfect home is out there somewhere ❤️❤️.
Send me a message if you would like to know more about her or fill out an application on our website!

Senior Saturday! Owning a senior dog is bittersweet, we cherish having had so many years with our best friend but losing them seems closer than ever. We know that feeling all too well. The mean age at the Haven is 13! Goose here is 15 years young! He has a pretty significant heart murmur and isn't as spry in his chair anymore but still has a strong will to go on! And we will be here caring for him till the very end 💕

Unfortunately I also have some sad news 😞. We lost our sweet old lady Pudgy at 16 years old a few weeks ago. Age finally caught up to this sweet lady and she went peacefully but not without chowing down an entire cheeseburger first!

I also heard from Barbara, Houlihan's human that she unexpectedly passed away a few days ago. She had some kind of cardiac/respiratory event and despite her loving family rushing her to the ER right away, it was too much for her little body 💔. Please keep Barbara and her sons Lance and Uriah in your thoughts and prayers as they navigate through life without their tiny but mighty pup by their side. Her two sons were so amazing with Hula and we firmly believe this was the PERFECT home for her. They made her short life on this planet so happy and we are extremely grateful for that ❤️

It has been 2 weeks straight from hell and we could use your kind thoughts and prayers. First we lost 2 birds including my favorite shoulder chicken (chicken people get it), then the same day Selah develops a life threatening condition called GDV or bloat which leads to emergency surgery (pic of her X-Ray attached), Maisie ruptures an a**l gland, and finally the nail in the coffin, our beloved horse Shiloh had to be put down today following 2 episodes of choke. That last one has really devastated all of us and our pasture seems lonely without our old man. We miss you so much buddy, I hope you rest easy in horsie heaven 🐎. His sister, our mare Mary-Ann is very lonely and needs an older laid-back friend to romp with her, if you guys have any suggestions, please reach out ❤️. We are taking some time to grieve the ones we lost and cherish the ones we saved, hold your babies a little tighter because they won't be around forever 💔

Rigatoni is the LAZIEST puppy ever! 😂😴. No joke, he spends 8-9 hours passed out easily! He is always up for a cuddle with us or the animals though! And he gives our couch a very cool shaggy look 🤣. So far, we've had 0 behavioral issues with Rigs, in fact he is the first to back down from a confrontation! We are super happy with him and looks like he will be adoption ready soon!!!

Cuteness alert!!!
Meet Nemo, a one week old little baby who was rushed to the Emergency Vet in Upland, CA for a pretty grim paw injury. Nemo was found with his little paw pretty much hanging off 🥺. Luckily the doctors were able to take off the dead tissue and sew him up. After he was surrendered, the wonderful technician at the EV took him in and is now bottle feeding this sweet babe! When he is 8 weeks old, he will join us here at the Haven! We will assess his paw and determine what the next steps are. You know we love our nubbin babies! 🥰😍. We can't wait to meet you Nemo and a huge thank you to Desi the vet tech for opening your heart and home to this special man! It takes a village!!!

Look at him go!!!! Rigs refused a wheelchair and absolutely hated his PT, so we just let him be a happy pup, perfect the way he was and now look at him! No knuckling or dragging his paws! His right hind limb that was bent at a pretty severe angle seems to have straightened itself out with age! This is better than we could have hoped for! Go Rigs Go! 🏁🏎

You guys remember this cute face?!?! Yes, it really is Rigatoni!!! Isn't he so huge and so handsome?!? Rigatoni was not getting along with a few of his housemates in Indiana despite mom's best efforts so with a heavy heart, she reached out to us. Of course we took him back in a heartbeat! Time for some temperament a**lysis to see what type of home is the best fit for this noodle boy! So far, he has been amazing with our crew and re-introductions have gone very smoothly. I will keep you guys updated on his journey and when he will be up for adoption again!!!

Not an HHR animal but meet our feral cat Toby! His momma gave birth to 5 kittens last spring and hid them so well under our barn that we had no idea for the longest time! Toby would watch us as a kitten and finally trusts us enough to cuddle up on us! Isn't he SO handsome?! I hope he still loves me when I have to trap and neuter him soon! He is now definitely part of this big, crazy family though!

Throwback from when Pudgy the pug was absolutely zooted after her dental procedure in March 2021! Can you believe she is 14 now!? Still bossing us around and being a little chow-hound! We ❤️ our senior sanctuary residents just a little too much out here and are so grateful for being able to give them a happy place to live out their years comfortably 💙🐶

Marvel had her annual shots today and got a clean bill of health from the vet! She is a whooping 24lbs and this is her expected adult weight! Every person at the clinic was absolutely delighted to see her, but as you can tell, she was much less thrilled to be there and hid behind me the whole time 🤣🤣. This cutie pie is still available for adoption! DM me for more details on this little spitfire! ❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥

Hello Friends!! It's Goose here! I am feeling pretty spiffy today with my meds on board! My humans are working on getting me a foam insert that goes underneath my bed (I am a big time chewer!) so I have a little cushion apart from the 6 million blankets I cuddle with! My b***y abscess is healing beautifully and my humans work hard to keep it clean! Plus they've been showering me with extra treats and love, so I am a pretty happy boy these days! I can't wait for some more ice to melt so I can get into my wheels again! I may be a "senior" but I am unmatched when it comes to wheelin!! Thank you all who sent me those good vibes and prayers! I love you all!!!!

Kisses
Goose!

Hug your Senior Dogs! We are going through kind of a rough patch with our Sunshine Boy Goose! At almost 15, having survived cancer, amputation and being paralyzed, this old timer doesn't stop surprising us!

Last week I noticed Goose wasn't as happy to see me in the morning as he usually is, and my suspicions were confirmed when he was acting lethargic that evening too! After I got him out of his bed, I noticed blood! Cue panic. Once I was sure that he was not peeing blood, we began a thorough investigation. The culprit was a pressure sore! Winters are hard on paralyzed dogs as snow/ice and wheels don't go together. Plus since his amputation, the way Goose carries himself and sits has changed dramatically causing an unequal distribution of weight.

Off he goes to the vet! His lab work revealed signs of infection and urinalysis revealed a UTI. The wonderfully talented Dr Lindsay Isaac at Prairie Animal Hospital had a plan for him, we got him on some meds and he is slowly bouncing back to being his old self!
We are still struggling with keeping that sore padded (which if you know/own a paralyzed dog is a feat!). The granulation tissue at the site is healthy and draining like we want, thankfully! I can include the gory pictures in the comments for those with a steel stomach but everyone else can enjoy adorable pics of our sunshine boy!
P.S. Any ideas on how to keep that side padded are MORE THAN WELCOME! We could use all your help!

Miss P has officially been taken over by the wonderful folks at Lily's Pad Rescue! They do amazing work for medically challenged bulldogs in need and are extremely knowledgeable about Spina Bifida. They have a great foster set up for her and she is now transferred to their care. Please reach out to LPR for all queries regarding Petunia and join me in wishing her and the folks at LPR good luck on her future adventures 💜💜

Guyssssss look at that smooshy face 😍! Miss P still needs a foster! Annette tells me her care is super easy and she is very tolerant of being expressed, especially if followed by cuddles and treats! Petunia got her first set of vaccines this week and is eagerly waiting for a new foster or even better forever home! Please share this post and if you have any questions at all, DM me and I will happily answer anything!

Hi guys!!! Foster needed!

Little Petunia needs a foster! At almost 13 weeks old, P and her now-foster Annette have got a great system down! A combination of diapers, a teeny t-shirt and a mitten clip plus expressing her a few times a day! Annette says Petunia tolerates expressing very well and is a very good girl for it! Don't worry if you have never expressed a bladder before, it's not difficult and once learned, it is a piece of cake!

If you are local and want to know more about her or think you are interested in fostering lil P, dm the page or send us an email on [email protected]

Please share this post on your timelines and let's get Petunia a foster!

On this day of gratitude, we want to extend ours to all of you! You laughed with us when rescued pups went to happy homes and cried with us when we lost some. We could not have done this without your support! Even though this page is quieter nowadays because all of us have full-time jobs and various responsibilities, we are still here! Here for the ones we took on and here for the ones yet to come! An exciting development for HHR is coming soon and we can't wait to tell you guys! But, we are still here. The OG wheelie gang is going strong, with some issues that come with being an aging, paralyzed dog...but nothing these tough cookies can't handle!

On this Giving Tuesday, we would be honored if you chose HHR to donate any amount (no amount is too small!) towards our cause! As always, we are ever so grateful to you all 🥰💙

SNOW FUN!!! Last night, the snow was fluffy and the dogs were crazy 🤪 lol! Hannah had hard-core zoomies and was just happy running circles around everyone! Dan really got into playing today which was unbelievably 😍 cute!!! The huskies were chatty as always and Misty (white husky) wants everyone to know who's boss! Marvel on the other hand doesn't want to share her snow and has had enough of these shenanigans 😂. Safe to say by the time we were done shoveling, these critters were about ready to drop 😴🙄. A very happy snow-day to all our lovely friends and supporters! Thank you for always being there for us and the pups! We ❤️ you all!

Heath’s Haven Rescue

Heath’s Haven Rescue & Sanctuary is a special needs rescue for dogs with neurological issues, spinal injuries, paralysis, and mobility issues. We rescue dogs from euthanasia in shelters, have them evaluated by a specialists, that provide necessary diagnostics (MRI, Spinal Taps, X-Rays, etc.), start them on a rehabilitation schedule of hydrotherapy, acupuncture, and physical therapy, then provide them with wheelchairs. Based on the severity of the dogs impairment, we then adopt them out. Most of the dogs that have neurological issues and spinal injuries are incontinent, and they need extra care to prevent urine scalding on the skin, and special care for their hind legs to prevent sores due to dragging. Even though these dogs have a rough start, they live happy, healthy, productive lives.
