The frustration of living with a reactive dog is real.

Join us as we talk about what we know to be true about reactivity and what we know to be false. We think you’ll walk away from this conversation with new thoughts and a new found hope that things can be better.

Offer These Crunchy Veggies to Your Pet 💚

📌 Tip: When preparing green beans for your own meals, don’t throw away their tops and bottoms. Chop them up into tiny, bite-sized morsels and add them to your pet’s food bowl as a food topper or an ingredient in their nutritionally balanced homemade meal. They also make for great training treats or stuffing for enrichment toys. 👍

Does your dog or cat freak out during thunder storms and fireworks?
Here are some things to help.

You’re not a lone. Many pet parents cringe at the weather forecast or holidays that include fireworks.

Every year hundreds of pets break out of homes and yards because of noise phobia. Melatonin can help. It’s safe and inexpensive.

Yes, melatonin is safe for dogs when administered properly. Melatonin is a natural sleep aid that can also help dogs with separation anxiety and stress.

“According to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA), melatonin is a safe supplement10 to give to your dog. Melatonin has little risk for harmful side effects11. The most common side effect is lethargy upon waking the next morning.”

You can also use human grade melatonin. Avoid gummies that could have artificial sugars.

If you’re purchasing melatonin from the drug store here is the dose.

The usual dosage of melatonin for dogs depends on size. Dogs less than ten pounds should generally take 1 mg. Dogs ten to 25 pounds usually take 1.5 mg. For dogs 26 to 100 pounds, 3 mg is recommended. Dogs over 100 pounds may take 3 to 6 mg.

It’s safe to use Benadryl. Since it varies in weight here’s a link with a chart. Liquid Benadryl is easier to measure.

https://petpedia.co/how-much-benadryl-to-give-a-dog/

Play music or turn up the TV. If you have a fear reactive pet to noise phobia you should stay home. Of course this isn’t possible if you’re working and a thunderstorm breaks out .

Spotify has some good pet audios and podcasts to help teach your pets to have less anxiety. The idea is to play it blended with music while you are at home. Do enrichment or cuddle during. 30 minutes at a time for as long as they need. Just search for your keywords- thunderstorms, fireworks, vacuum etc.

Microchip your pets just in case. Keep them inside if you know they will freak out. Close windows.

A happy and safe 4th of July!

Pick up your 💩
Not just public places but your own yard. Don’t let it sit. You’re creating a bacterial issue that could effect your family and pets.
At Dancing Creek Farm we pick it up every day, bag it before disposing.

Be considerate of others and dogs that want to eat it. Train your dog to “leave it” and that means everything on your walks.

What's that smell? Is that what you think it is? You check your shoes and, sure enough, one is adorned with a sticky, foul-smelling patty of fresh wrongness.

If you like you can add chia or flax seed to your mix

Chia is said to be an immune-system booster and is credited with supporting dogs' electrolyte balance. Flax is high in fiber, and both are high in anti-inflammatories.

In our group we talk a lot about adding things such as ginger, sauerkraut and turmeric. We also use Green Viberance, a human grade super food filled with organic fruits (berries ) and vegetables. (Only three times a week- see our dog dose instructions at our online store for green Viberance) link in comments.

Some dogs are picky and anything added to food just makes them snub their noses.

Here’s a good healthy hack.

Use a food processor
Add ground beef, turkey or chicken.
Add your fermented foods, sauerkraut, green Viberance, apple cider vinegar or whatever they won’t eat. Remember to only use Green Viberance three times a week. It’s full of micronutrients but too much is too much.

Blend everything together. Make small meatballs. Put them in the freezer. When it’s time to feed lightly microwave the meatball just until it’s defrosted. Then mix or put on top of food.

Here’s a link to Green Vibrance. Be sure to keep it in the freezer to keep fresh after opening. It’s also great for raw or homemade feeders who organic fruits and vegetables.

Don’t miss it! This is also great for rescues and shelter staff. Fosters , trainers and dog owners.

In this webinar, we share a case study of a dog who was aggressive towards animals and people, a resource guarder, reactive (and lots more!)

In this webinar you'll learn:

How changing her emotions was key to changing her life and literally saving her from euthanasia.

This is a fascinating story about Clementine, a rat terrier who was surrendered to us just two hours before her scheduled euthanasia.

Join us on May 31st at 7pm EDT to hear more!
We hope you will join us for the webinar and the Q&A that will follow immediately afterwards!

I had friends come to visit and we took them on the gators down to the creek. It’s was lovely yesterday.

As I’m driving back to the center I feel something crawling on my face. A damn tick. Another one on my neck.

I pulled in and took my coveralls off on the porch . As I’m walking in UPS pulls in. Thankful for the timing because I walking in. lol

I went in the bathroom to do a full check. Didn’t see any more.

In the compound, where all the dog cabins are, we spray Wondercide yard spray. 32 ounces will last a standard yard a few months. You spray once- mulch, in bushes, grass, on tree trunks. Then spray again in two weeks. Then once a month. Your kids and animals can walk on it right away because it’s natural.

The pet body spray you spray heavy and rub in to the skin. You use a good rubber brush. Then spray three times a week. It’s safe enough to spray on yourself.

We have 50/70 dogs at a time and no fleas or ticks.

There was an early start to the season because of weather. The ticks are especially bad this time of year. Learn how to properly remove and check the area for a week to make sure there’s no rash or swelling. If there is take your pet to the vet right away. If it’s caught early enough they can treat it.

Stay safe and please support our store. We are affordable and it helps fund our program for military deployed discounts for long term boarding.

If you need help choosing the right diet and supplements I can help.

Activated charcoal is a popular natural remedy for treating various health issues in dogs. It is a form of carbon that has been treated with oxygen to make it highly porous and able to absorb toxins and chemicals. Here are some of the benefits of using activated charcoal for dogs:

1. Helps with digestive issues: Activated charcoal can help to absorb toxins and chemicals in the digestive tract, which can reduce symptoms of diarrhea, vomiting, and gas.

2. Detoxifies the body: Activated charcoal can help to remove toxins and chemicals from the body, which can improve overall health and reduce the risk of illness.

3. Reduces bad breath: Activated charcoal can help to absorb bacteria and toxins in the mouth, which can reduce bad breath in dogs.

4. Helps with skin issues: Activated charcoal can be used topically to help absorb toxins and bacteria on the skin, which can reduce itching, inflammation, and other skin issues.

5. Can be used in emergency situations: Activated charcoal can be used in emergency situations to help absorb toxins and chemicals that a dog may have ingested, such as poisonous plants or chemicals.

It is important to note that activated charcoal should only be used under the guidance of a veterinarian, as it can interfere with the absorption of certain medications and nutrients. It should also be used with caution in dogs with certain health conditions, such as liver or kidney disease.

Activated charcoal for dogs is available in various forms, including capsules, powder, and treats. It is important to follow the recommended dosage instructions and to monitor your dog for any adverse reactions.

Dose
Dosage: 0.5 – 1.5 grams per pound of body weight (0.5 – 1.5 gm/lb); therefore a 5 lb dog would need 2.5 to 7.5 grams of activated charcoal. A 10 lb dog would need 5 – 15 grams. A 100 lb dog would need 50 to 150 grams.

Or keep this on hand for emergencies. Call the hotline and let the vet on the line know you have it.

I just got news that one of my favorite products Ultra Oil has just released the same oil but with added pain and joint support.

Boswellia is Indian frankincense used for hundreds of years. I see big benefits from this combination.

Very excited. Ultra oil is important for all life stages. Prevention is how you keep your dogs (great for cats too) out of the vet, enhancing quality of life and longevity.

This is such an affordable product to add daily to your pets diet .

40 bucks for 32oz , keep in fridge once opened and it’s going to last a long time. You can add cbd to it if you like. I don’t usually use it but a lot do.

I’ll keep you posted on the new product and I’ll get some samples to give out.

Frisbee Enrichment

Great idea for enrichment and added health. If you use store bought peanut butter make sure it’s natural with no sugars like Xylitol that is toxic to dogs.

Remember nut butters are high in fat. Not good for overweight dogs.

Consider peanut butter powder mixed in ultra Oil, coconut oil and black seed oil for inflammation. When using black seed oil just a small amount.

You can also use yogurt and wet food, freeze the frisbee but not hang. This might be quite messy.

Nematodes! Natural pest control- fleas and ticks.

Microscopic little larva eating machines. They eat flea larva , grubs, beetles and ground boring insects. We’ve used them many years.

But they don’t kills ticks or mosquitoes.

This is our natural insect control program at the farm.

After the last frost, or at least 7 days of warm , above 60s weather , we apply nematodes to the soil. Ideally a period (April) when you have lots of good rain. It’s best if the soil is moist.

Nematodes on Amazon

https://tinyurl.com/234wssx4

50 million per 1/2 acre.

At the farm we put down 500 million!

They should go down early morning , while it’s cool or after sunset.

See instructions. They are very tiny. Once lodged into the soil they begin moving, eating and hatching their own eggs. They don’t survive freezing temperatures.

After a few weeks , when we know they have definitely made their way deep in the soil , we begin using Wondercide lawn spray.

Wondercide Flea, Tick, & Mosquito Control Concentrate for Yard + Garden

https://advanceholisticdog.com/products/wondercide-flea-tick-mosquito-control-concentrate-for-yard-garden

Use a hose end dial sprayer and follow instructions.

For ticks, mosquitoes and other pests, spray mulch, up tree trunks, bushes and gravel. The first application is done twice in a month and then once a month.

It’s pretty incredible.

Three times a week we also spray dogs with wondercide spray

https://advanceholisticdog.com/products/wondercide-topical-indoor-flea-tick-spray

Once a week spray and rub it in really good. You can even use a rubber brush. The other two times a week spray body really good. You can spray some on your hands to rub around ears and neck. Wash your hands. It’s safe for both you and your pets.

It works great indoors for ants and other pests without exposing your pets and family to toxins.

Do you know flea collars, lawn chemicals and pesticides not only hurt the environment but cause toxic reactions to pets and humans? Especially children. Kids and pets running barefoot easily absorb toxins through their feet, hands and skin. It’s really unnecessary to because with a careful program you can do this naturally and safe.
