Be aware that sulcatas can live 80 years and grow in excess of 100 pounds! They are very friendly, curious creatures. Baby sulcatas need at least a 20 gallon aquarium to start off in. The aquariums ambient temperature needs to be in the mid- 80 degree mark. A full spectrum lit basking area of 95 degrees is also necessary for proper digestion. The substrate (bedding) can be alfalfa pellets, newspap

er, or outdoor carpeting. Do not use processed corn cob. I prefer to give them a good start by supplementing a processed food with veggies daily. I like the bags of frozen mixed vegetables. It is convenient to thaw and feed. The processed food needs to be soaked for 10 minutes before being fed. Put the food on a hard surface. Do not feed only processed food! It has too much protein and will make the tortoise shell “pyramid”. every week soak the baby sulcata in a 1/4” of clean water for 10-15 minutes. This will ensure proper hydration and help them look pretty. After the sulcata reaches about 3” in diameter, feed only chopped fruits and vegetables. A year old should be about 4-5” in length. The bottom of the shell should start to become concave if it is a male. If it is a female, it will remain flat. In 5 years, it should be around the size of a 5 gallon bucket. It takes at least 7 years to become sexually mature. Sulcatas may be kept outdoors in warmer climates. Be aware that predation is always a concern. Fire ants, raccoons, dogs, cats and other animals would like to make your baby sulcata it’s next meal. If you provide the tortoise with a heated enclosure, it will go inside nightly and probably not burrow. Additional reading is recommended.

Females are fat one day, then not. Makes it fairly easy to tell when they've layed.

I have the best koi available that I have ever had. I've had the same fish on the property for 25 years. They've never been exposed to KHV that is wiping out koi in almost all pet stores across the country.

Miss Piggy has started digging. Egg laying season is about to begin! She is a Cayman Island Iguana hybrid (Lewisi).
IMO; these are great pets. They don't get moody during breeding. Males and females stay friendly, once a bond of trust is created.

Setting up rhino iguana (Cyclura Cornuta) nest boxes.
Mix the nest media (perlite and sand) 1:1 by volume. Egg hatching boxes are 1:1 by weight.
I paint my boxes because they are not zuV resistant. They'll last a lot longer.

This bill bans the sale of rabbits too. It also bans the sale of puppies and kittens from pet stores. While that part doesn't sound bad, the next ban could ban breeding puppies and kittens at home. BOOM! No more puppies and kittens in Florida! Animal rights people are playing the long game. Stop the bans now, they ARE coming for your pets, all of them.

HB1033 is a ban on all iguana Species (among other animals) in Florida. I have said this for years, after the reptiles are all gone, they'll come after YOUR PETS! Your birds, small mammals, tropical fish and corals will all be in the crosshairs.

There are not any wild colonies of high end iguanas (cyclura) in Florida. There is no scientific reason to ban them.
Is there a colony of wild French lop rabbits out there? How about pink eyed white bunnies reaking havok in the Florida Everglades?
This is just more government overreach. No scientific reason, they just want to.
Contact your representative and tell them to focus on THE BORDER!! Leave our pets alone!!

RABBIT BAN
State Senators Rosalind Osgood (Democrat) of Tamarac (District 32) and Lori Berman (Democrat) of Boyton Beach (District 26) have introduced SB 1426, which institutes criminal penalties for the sale of rabbits.

"An act relating to the sale of rabbits; creating s. 828.44, F.S.; prohibiting the sale of rabbits in specified locations and during specified months; specifying unlawful acts relating to the sale, offering for sale, and the giving away as merchandising premiums of certain rabbits; providing requirements for rabbits offered for sale at retail pet stores; requiring retail pet stores to maintain and and make available specified records; requiring local authorities to retrieve, return, and place abandoned rabbits in a specified manner; authorizing specified officials to enter retail pet stores and and conduct compliance inspections; prohibiting persons from refusing or interfering with such inspections; providing criminal penalties; providing applicability; providing an effective date."

Florida Iguana Ban
HB1033 seeks to expand the ban on Green iguanas to include all species of Iguanas. This would mean that rock iguanas, spiny-tailed iguanas, rhinoceros iguanas, chuckwallas, and all other Iguanids would become Prohibited Species.

In addition to its negative conservation impacts, this bill further degrades the freedoms of reptile keepers and small businesses within Florida.

HB1033 also bans the sales of dog and cats in pet stores.

HB1033 was introduced by State Representative Sam Killebrew (Republican)
of Winter Haven (District 48).

I guess the rhino iguanas got cold today.
I had to put 3 adults in their hide boxes tonight. That's pretty unusual.
They probably came out of their heated houses today and then got too cold to make it back in.

Hide box update

It's a good day today. Expo my male leopard tortoise is eating for the first time since he got sick. I'm very optimistic now!
