Bean is available for adoption through Sarge's Animal Rescue Foundation. He's as social as they come, and smart as can be. While he was with us, he learned to sit, down, and place 🙂

Bernie is working on his recall today as part of his Academy Drop Off Day School field trip. He's doing pretty well!
How are we working on it? Well, for starters we've practiced his recall a lot indoors at the training center and around the property. He knows we always give out the yummiest treats for coming when we call. We've slowly increased our distance from him. Now that he's pretty solid, we're practicing in public with him on a long line (a 20 foot leash). We drop a small treat scatter and have him "find it!" and then dart in another direction. When he finishes the treats, he looks for us, meanwhile we're calling him with LOTS of enthusiasm. When he gets to us, we do another treat scatter and dart in a totally different direction, and repeat. This teaches him to keep an eye on us AND that being close to us is valuable.

How we're running toward the weekend...
Here's some of the action from last Saturday's Canine Manners in Public workshop! We worked on having good leash manners in proximity to other people, dogs, children, and ducks. All the dogs did great, and were even able to lay down in the shade together, while staying calm and focused on their handlers.
