A couple more rides before heading to the Nationals for another crack at a 160km completion. A one star 80.
But as often the case with Tigger the day before was where the drama occurred...

Tigger’s next ride after our shortened NI outing was 40km at Waitomo.  This was always another well supported, well enjoyed course.  Kerry rode him, I can’t remember why… perhaps Bill was…

Lace was off being a Mum and I had taken over the ride on Tigger... No chance to start slowly though we were in the middle of the season and so it was straight into the longer rides - First up 100km at Kuratau and then straight on to the North Island Champs!

https://horseenduranceandstuff.com/48-straight-into-the-deep-end-with-tigger/

It is December so this is Kuratau, 100km.   There are always those rides that are on the calendar every year and this one was quickly becoming one of our favourites.  It was a new ba…

With Lace in the broodmare paddock for at least three years it was lucky I had another horse to ride - Kerry and Lisa had been doing a great job with Tigger so far. I felt very guilty taking him back.

Of course, while Lace was getting injured, having s*x holidays and babies there were still endurance rides going on. And I still wanted to be riding them.  But unlike when George had got injur…

I had my first baby horse 😍😍 So adorable!

Now, would we be able to get Lace back in foal to Castlebar Gulfstream with that last, one only chance?

https://horseenduranceandstuff.com/46-ive-got-a-baby-horse/

I had my first baby horse, and she was gorgeous!  Hands were clearly made for rubbing foals in all those places they couldn’t reach themselves!  And it wasn’t long before she was calling …

Lace was injured with the prospect of a minimum of six months off. So time for a baby Lace 🥰 Only problems were my total inexperience in horse breeding or endurance horse bloodlines...

My pony was broken, but I get to have a baby Lace! That is the bonus of mares, they have a retirement plan available. There are only so many broken down geldings one needs! I already had George…

Lace had 5000 qualified kilometres in her grasp - 80km ride, bad weather and a tie up risk, would we get there?

Sorry about the lack of posts... as usual this is simply due to not having any photos.

These stories so far are generally back in the days where we didn't carry good digital cameras in our pockets most of the time, and certainly not when the weather was dodgy!

So I've added some slightly random photos.

https://horseenduranceandstuff.com/chapter-44-5000-qualified-kilometres-in-our-grasp/

After two 80km rides two weeks apart there was a break of six weeks until the next.  It was a Ruahine ride which was pretty exciting for us as most of their rides were usually out of our norma…

Sorry for the lack of posts, still recovering from losing Lace... It's going to take a while.

Anyway, we're nearly ten years behind! So on with the story!

A new season beginning, Lace was 12 years old and coming into her prime 😀🤩😍

https://horseenduranceandstuff.com/43-2012-2013-season-gets-underway/

With the Counties club in recession we were definitely missing their early season rides in the Waiuku forest.  Waikato doesn’t really have any all-weather tracks, Tokoroa forest was always our…

It's taken a long time to post this for no other reason than I have absolutely no photos... and I hate putting up a post with no photos! So it's a cheat of scenic stuff from the internet and a random photo of Lace... oh well at least now we can move on...

https://horseenduranceandstuff.com/42-road-trip-south/

We were on our way south.  Kerry had done all the planning and had our schedule sorted.  First night was in Palmerston North with Lindy as usual, the ponies must be starting to feel quite…

Lace and Lisa had won the 160 at the North Island Champs. What next? Time for our first trip to the South Island where the Nationals would be this year. But that was a few months away so a few more rides to keep those ponies fit.

https://horseenduranceandstuff.com/41-planning-to-go-to-the-nationals-down-south/

Now the plan was to aim for the Nationals in the South Island at Hawarden… but that was a while away yet. A month after the NI Champs was the Waitomo ride at Paemako.  This is always a tough c…
