A very good client of mine recently bought this horse and I got the chance to take her out of steel shoes yesterday. If she was at my rehab center in the pea gravel and the sand, I would have approached this very differently. Starting this project at his place I chose to use the glued on pad technique I’ve been using on a few other cases right out of the gate and not throw her into the harsh transition without some help. Without the pads I would have had to go pretty conservative and let her deal with her terrain for a month on the built up dead material she had accumulated with the shoes on for so long. Her mechanics were really deteriorating and my thinking was to address the long toes and the under run heels more head on and let the pads fill in. She trotted off and was playing with her new friends after the setup so I feel good about the direction she’s headed.
