1-Year-Old sheepadoodle looking for a foster or forever home needs to be up to date on vetting which the rescue will do and neutered which the rescue also does. If anybody has a home that could find the guy a place to lay his head for a little while we would be able forever grateful. He does live with other dogs but he did have an issue with the other intact male in the household.

Meet Rocco Taco, a ~5 year old Amstaff/Lab mix. Recently neutered and now searching for a family to call his own 🐾

Rocco has been fostered for the last 3-4 weeks which is the only history we have.

Rocco has a sweet and gentle personality. He loves car rides, cuddles, laying in the sun, tennis balls and doing anything as long as he can spend time with his family!

He has experience around kids over 8, cats, and one small dog during his short stay with his foster family. We are unsure of his history with kids under 8 or other dogs.

He is medium to low energy, content staying at home to cuddle all day, or going for a nice hike!

He has a few quirks, the biggest being separation anxiety. He will require training +/- behavioural medications to help him, and would do best with someone who is home more often than not. He is using a gentle leader with his walks but will need to continue to work on his leash manners.

If you think Rocco may be the perfect cuddle bug for your family, please apply 🐾✨

23 years ago, On this day, thinking of those 3408 people and 7 dogs that died ( 8 EMT's, 60 police, 343 Fire fighters, 2997 civilians during 9/11 . Thank you to all those that fought hard to save them, heroes, both the people and animals who helped.
We also remember the, nearly 10,000 emergency rescue workers joined in the efforts to help. More than 300 of those heroes were dogs.
Including the Hero Dogs of 9/11 along with the countless people who had their lives irrevocably changed by man’s best friend. From search and rescue dogs to comfort dogs to bomb detection dogs, these canines’ stories of courage, healing and long-lasting legacy must never be forgotten.
Hundreds more loyal, devoted, and hardworking four-legged heroes risked life and limb on September 11 and the days and weeks that followed. Whether searching for survivors, locating remains, or simply being a source of comfort and hope during the bleakest moment in modern history, we must always remember and honor them.

There was Riley. Golden retriever. He was trained to find living people. But, he didn’t find any. Instead, he recovered the remains of firefighters. Riley kept searching for a live survivor, but found none. Riley’s morale tanked.
“I tried my best to tell Riley he was doing his job,” said his handler. “He had no way to know that when firefighters and police officers came over to hug him, and for a split second you can see them crack a smile—that Riley was succeeding at doing an altogether different job. He provided comfort. Or maybe he did know.”
There was Coby and Guiness. Black and yellow Labs. From California. Surfer dogs. They found dozens of human remains.
And Abigail. Golden Lab. Happy. Energetic. Committed. Big fan of bacon.
Sage. A border collie. Cheerful. Endless energy. Her first mission was searching the Pentagon wreckage after the attacks. She recovered the body of the terrorist who piloted American Airlines Flight 77.
Jenner. Black Lab. At age 9, he was one of the oldest dogs on the scene. Jenner’s handler, Ann Wichmann, remembers:
“It was 12 to 15 stories high of rubble and twisted steel. My first thought was, ‘I can't send Jenner into that…’ At one point, [Jenner] disappeared down a hole under the rubble and I was like, ‘Ugggggh!' Such a heart-stopping moment..."
Trakr. German Shepherd. Tireless worker. Worked until he couldn’t stand up anymore. Trakr found Genelle Guzman-McMillan, who was trapped for 27 hours among the debris. Genelle was as good as dead, until the cold nose poked through the mangled steel.
Apollo. German shepherd. An NYPD police dog. Coal-black muzzle. Liquid eyes. The first dog on the scene, only 15 minutes after the attacks. Apollo worked 18-hour days. Once, he was nearly killed in a fire during his search. But Apollo had been drenched in water and he was quick on his feet. No injuries.
Jake. Labrador. As a puppy, Jake was found on the side of the road in Dallas. Abandoned. Left for dead. Like trash. He had a dislocated hip and a broken leg. They made him a rescue dog.
Jake worked until his body threatened to collapse from exhaustion. After his shifts, local New York merchants saw his rescue-dog vest and treated him to free steak dinners in upscale Manhattan restaurants.
And, of course, there was Bretagne. Golden Retriever. Easygoing. Dutiful. Obsessed with food. Her owner and trainer, Denise Corliss, a firefighter from Harris County, Texas, brought Bretagne to Ground Zero while the rubble was still hot.
Bretagne went straight to work. She worked for 10 days solid. Ten agonizing days. Bretagne never quit. She napped onsite.
Denise recalls: “...There are images of Bretagne going to where she was directed to search, into the unknown, the chaotic environment. But even then, she knew who needed the comfort of a dog, and which firefighter needed to hold her close and stroke her fur.”
After 9/11, Bretagne also helped recovery efforts during the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, and Ivan. She retired at age 9.
Old age finally overtook her, she had a hard time using stairs, so Denise installed an above-ground pool to keep Bretagne’s joints limber.
In retirement, Bretagne became a reading dog at a local elementary school. First graders, too shy to read aloud, would read to a white-faced, elderly retriever who looked them in the eyes and smiled.

sorry we have been absent, we here re been busy behind the scenes but with today Rainbow Bridge Remembrance Day, observed annually on August 28th, is a special day dedicated to honoring the lives of our beloved pets who have passed away, offering a chance to reflect on the profound impact.
here are some of my
kids, please share yours
Today is Rainbow Bridge Remembrance Day; while I am not sure we need a special day, honestly. Here is that is every day, for all those that have entered my home, the eccentric/nonconforming/unadoptable lovable kids. Bambi an overweight beagle who waddled, rather than walked. Tiffany the poodle because I am allergic to dogs she loved boating, started a life time of helping animals. Then we move to Duh Duh Dawber, who was amazing but dumb as a stump with hip dysplasia, hated water the golden retriever who never retrieved but made up for it with love. Bubbles who disliked men, esp men in ball caps, he may take your leg off it you got to close to me but loved life and those he chose to love, obsessed with water, sprained his tail swimming. And last but not least in dogs the one and only WRB, tucker was well tucker, he was cute as all get out with an “outspoken personality”, and those are the original 3 musketeers that saw me through many happy and sad times, always by my side and remembered.. They grew up with Nasdaq, never name a cat after the stock market, when it crashes so do they. Trebek named after Alex trebeck because Hi**er wasn’t an option even though he had the ‘tash, these brothers were born to a feral mom, but became awesome companions. Chili Con Carne, CC came into the fold when he was found stuck in the rocks at Peggy’s cove alone hungry and wee bit angry. Along with these ARC kids, I remember all ARC kids when we get “the call”, so every day is Rainbow Bridge Remembrance Day for me.

HRM Update, while reported in HRM we are sure it is happening in other places, so be safe : There has been a report of blue-green algae at Penhorn Lake. It's a popular spot for dog walkers. This algae can be harmful to dogs.
Blue-green algae are microscopic, plant-like organisms that occur naturally in ponds, rivers, lakes and streams.
Blue-green algae develops when a period of hot, dry weather is followed by heavy rainfall. It’s becoming more common with warmer temperatures and more intense storms caused by climate change. Increased amounts of nutrients (like nutrients from fertilizers, septic systems and paved surfaces near the water) can also help blue-green algae grow.
Blue-green algae isn’t normally visible in the water, but it can quickly reproduce to form a large mass called a bloom or mat. Once blue-green algae appears, it’s more likely to reappear in the same body of water.
Algae blooms come in many shapes and sizes, and harmful blooms can look very similar to harmless blooms. It can be blue-green, turquoise, green, brown, red, white or mixes of these colours.

LOOKING FOR FOSTER
"Angel is a sweet and gentle giant who doesn't know her size yet she is just a baby at 14 months. She walks well with another older dog, does tend to pull but has been responding well to gentle correction and positive reinforcement. Angel has separation anxiety so will need a home with a controlled space, someone who can spend time with her, provide her with training and positive reinforcement. She does well with other dogs and children but would do best in a home with another calm older dog who can provide an example for her. She can sit on command, waits for the go ahead to eat, seems to need to empty her bladder and bowel frequently but paces and whines when she needs to go out. She has been spoiled in her previous home and is a sofa surfer and wants to be on the bed with her people. She is also quite springy and can easily jump over furniture and baby gates. Due to her anxiety issues and the stress of being in a new environment she does seem to startle easily but settles and listens relatively well. She will likely need to be medicated for separation anxiety as it is quite impressive. For this reason she would do best in a home with a controlled and secure run and someone who is able to be available for her, perhaps someone who is retired or works from home, who has the patience and space for a large breed dog with high needs for love and attention. I do believe once she had a stable and calm environment, she will be a wonderful companion for the right person/people.
