Hey friends. Coming to you with a desperate plea. As many of you know we have a 501(c)(3) nonprofit farmed animal sanctuary rescue. With that, we don’t always have the luxury of time, resources or funding in emergency situations. Sometimes we believe & trust our convictions, say yes first and THEN hope & pray for everything to work itself out.
Right now, is one of those times.
I am asking for your help. SHE is asking for your help. Please consider being a part of something big!
Saving a life!
A life so precious and worthy of our kindness & compassion.
SHE has done the hard part. Wednesday 4/16 at 4pm she jumped for her second chance at life. She has survived so much in just the 2 weeks of her life. At only 6 pounds, being taken from her mom, thrown on a semi truck with 1000+ other babies, escaping onto the the middle of the highway during transport to a finishing plant, eventually collected by animal control and put into safe hands.
This little girl is now in the care a foster mom (through Central Mo Humane Society) but because this piglet is still on her stray hold and in AC custody, she wasn’t going to receive the care she needed until Monday afternoon. Farm To Able AND Kansas City Pig Rescue Network- KCPRN offered to get this girl to MU AND pay for it even through we knew the owner/farmer could still come forward and claim her, resulting in total devastating loss of the piglet and funds. It wasn’t a concern. We knew she needed help immediately regardless. We are grateful animal control agreed and was willing to work with us. After going through the proper process the piglet was finally seen by MU college of vet med last night. We are also grateful to her foster Rebecca for dropping everything and driving over an hour right when she got off work THEN waited over 2 hours for scans and assessment to be done.
This is what we know so far… x rays done. She does have femur fracture. It's actually cracked in half and displaced from the bone. Surgery is the only option to fix it. Good chance that leg will always be shorter than the others. She is also concerned about the pigs size and age as to whether Surgery is a good option or not. They have to have a radiologist look at the x-rays on Monday to confirm. MU gave her pain meds and were ok with sending her home with Rebecca. MU said likely it wouldn't be until Monday before they could do Surgery. She said Surgery would be anywhere from $2-3 thousand with follow ups with them. AC told them to go ahead a release to foster
Rebecca and can keep her more comfy at home over than staying there and keep her rested for now.
Farm To Able has decided to go pick this baby up at 5pm Monday when she will be released. Bring her back to the sanctuary she will call home and we will take her to Dr. Koch for further treatment 8am Tuesday morning.
Dr. Koch is just amazing and has treated many many piggies with similar conditions. We have the utmost respect and trust in his abilities. He treated our Boone with the exact same injuries from his jump many years ago with great success.
We appreciate you all taking the time to read. Taking the time to care. And if you can, take the time to support. No amount too small! Please help be a part of her journey and a part of her amazing story.
