Olive plays with foster pups
Patience pays off! Olive has been very aroused around my foster pups for the whole first week and so everyone had to be separated. But I was slowly exposing the pups to her and when one of them told me he was interested in engaging, we did some slow introductions with Olive on leash. And now, they are thriving together in small doses. The wildfire smoke is bad today so we may try some play inside… stay tuned for how that is going.

Foster puppies in stroller
I took advantage of the beautiful weather, and took the puppies out for their maiden voyage in the dog stroller. You never know when you might encounter the perfect adopter.
These puppies will be up for adoption through the Humane Society of Central Oregon shortly .
Foster puppies, Cheddar, Jack and Blue, are enjoying some time on the deck today in the sunshine. They will be available for adoption through Humane Society of Central Oregon in a couple of weeks.
Puppy enrichment
Say cheese!
Cheddar, Jack and Blue are playing with some packing paper.
Enrichment doesn’t have to be expensive or hard!
They are learning about new textures and sounds with this simple recycling activity.
Your daily dose of cheese!
On the bed is Cheddar
Tugging the bed is Blue
Near me and my dog is Jack
If you live in Central Oregon and are interested in adopting one of these pups, they will be available in a few weeks through the Humane Society of Central Oregon.
Foster Puppy Live and Foster Q&A
I'll be bringing the puppies upstairs to my office space this afternoon and wanted to be available to answer any questions you might have about fostering.
Disclaimer: every foster experience is different and this is just a snapshot in time.
Foster puppies: Piano

Swainson’s hawk
This is Ron, a Swainson’s hawk at the Sunriver Nature Center where I volunteer.
If you could read his body language, what would you guess might be going on here?
I will tell you more later today.
Registration for Paws to Pacifiers is open
Before investing in Paws to Pacifiers, you probably have a few questions.
Well, you’re not alone. Others had questions too.
Here are the most popular questions we’ve had...
I know a lot about dogs, so shouldn't I be fine on my own - it's not rocket science to prepare our dog for the new baby, right?
The fact that you know a lot about dogs will make your family's transition much easier. But the more you know about dogs, the more you know what you don't know! Plus, just because you know about dogs, doesn't mean you know what life will be like with your dog AND A BABY, 24 hours a day. It's harder than you think. And there is a lot you likely haven't considered. But inside Paws to Pacifiers, I've got you. We will talk about what your life looks like and how to add a baby to that routine (for you and for your dog!).
We are so busy with work, house preparations (and nausea). I don't know if I have time to do this program.
I don't mean to be rude AT ALL, but I need to be truthful with you (like I always will be)... If you think you are busy NOW, you have no idea what's coming. Once baby comes, you will be busier than you could possibly imagine. It's bonkers how much time one little human can take. That said, I can help you make progress MUCH FASTER now than you could ever make on your own later. That's the perk of working with me for 6 weeks. We will go step by step through what's most important and I'll be there to hold you accountable for practicing.
Our dog has a bite history - I don't know how you can help us repair that past and give us peace of mind moving forward.
You are right. I can't un-do what's happened in the past. But in most cases, I can help you to set your dog up for success in the future. With dogs, there is no guarantee, no matter what anyone tells you. But I know how much you love your dog. And with me on your team, we can work towards more peace of mind as your family grows.
If you see that Paws to Pacifiers is the key to helping you take act
Here's a little sneak peek of Episode 2 of the Parenting Kids and Dogs 101 Podcast about whether or not feeling overwhelm is normal when raising kids and dogs together.

I made a limited series podcast answering some of the most common questions I get asked as a dog and child specialist. It's called Parenting Kids and Dogs 101.
In the first episode, I discuss 5 mistakes that many parents with kids and dogs make.
You can listen on my website (https://poochparenting.net/parentingkidsanddogs101podcast/) or on your favorite podcast player. Don't miss the free downloadable workbook that goes along with the series.

Some of the most common advice out there for people who are raising kids and dogs together is "supervise, supervise, supervise."
BUT nobody ever tells you what "Supervision" actually means.
TONS of parents are proud to tell me that they never leave their kids and dogs together alone. And they should be proud. That's a great first step.
But it's not enough.
Simply being in the room doesn't mean that you can prevent an accident.
If you are cooking dinner and your toddler pulls your dogs tail on the other side of the counter, you won't even see it. And you were in the same room.
I help my clients and students to understand how to adequately supervise their kids and dogs together. We come up with dozens of ways they can do this so that they can pick the right strategy for the right moment.
If you want support, I have lots of options. You can work with me privately, take an on-demand class, or register for our next Paws to Pacifiers series for a premium experience as you prepare your dog for new baby. I want to set you up for success.
It's only natural to hope our dogs will love our babies right away. But the truth is, relationships take time. And in all honesty, some dogs don't like babies or kids - they are noisy, unpredictable and they take your attention away from the dog. It's a hard transition - and can become even more challenging once the baby is mobile.
Let's all support our friends when they express feelings about rushing things with their kids and dogs - and remind them that we have to take things one step at a time.
And please also let them know that they don't have to do it alone. If they are anxious, scared, disappointed, or wanting to be proactive, please send them my way. I'd be honored to help their family to live in harmony.
