As much as I enjoy working for myself, when you don't have a team, being a small business owner can feel a little isolating sometimes. When everything has to come from your own brain, it can get hard to the woods for the trees some days 😅

We have been loving canicross! I use our setup for both running and hiking. It's so nice to free your hands from holding the lead and it takes the pressure off both of us.

Fancy that, a sport where pulling is actively accepted and encouraged!

(I don't personally encourage Cam to pull strongly ahead as we run/hike on very uneven terrain.)

While he can walk lovely loose leash on this setup, he is a highly driven dog so I don't expect him to never get excited by scent and pull, especially up in the fells.

So the bungee line is our calm compromise.

He's doing such a great job on falling in behind when going down steep, rocky sections. He recognises it now and waits for me to go first which is very cute.

We've also worked on "heel" so that he can be in close when walking along any stretches of road.

I love taking him on adventures as it's such a good form of enrichment for both of us 🐕

Since it's neither an enrichment "book" nor an enrichment "toy", it's difficult to get found.

It's currently bobbing about between 120-190th listing on "interactive games" in the dog category.

If I can reach the top 100 in that category it will make the best sellers list, giving it a chance of being seen and reaching a broader audience.

If you feel in a bit of a rut with your routine, pick a card and go do the activity outside with your dog.

I usually walk Cam in places he can be off the lead, but 'lead only' parks and gardens are great because it means you can probably find a quiet spot and not be disturbed by other dogs.

♥️ The Bond, Play and Focus categories are good for developing engagement.
😌 The Calm category cards are good for lowering arousal levels.
🧠 The Puzzle category cards are good for mental stimulation and give your dog something specific to focus on.

Doing activities outside is way to learn more about your dog. Do they find it easy or harder to engage in certain activities? This guides you on what to work on.

Getting a new dog is so exciting and it's natural to hope for that instant 'love at first sight' reaction from that meet, but that's not always realistic.

Nervous dogs can be overlooked as they don't have the confidence for instant physical contact or playing. Others may sniff and explore their surroundings before they come over.

It takes time and effort to build a relationship.

I work with a number of rescue and rehoming organisations. For every enrichment deck sale using the organisation's code, they receive £5 💸

It's especially handy for rehoming centres as it means the new guardian has tangible way to work on the relationship with their new dog 🐕🥰

It's also key to know how to calm and settle that dog into their new surroundings before expecting more from them.

This is our new hiking setup! It's canicross gear from @dogfituk. I tried canicross a number of years ago and wish I'd persisted (it can seem a bit odd to climb into a harness when taking your dog out for a walk, but works so well). You don't have to run with your dog, this can simply be used for countryside walks or hiking when a lead is necessary 🐑 I love being hands free, it's much more natural and liberating to walk without holding onto a lead - especially when you have a spaniel at the end of that lead 😄 Cam is walking so nicely but it's a game changer for any pulling and lurching for smells. Obviously no 'tool' is ever the magic solution. Helping your dog feel calmer and more confident and content by providing enrichment and mental stimulation is foundational. ...But if lead walking woes are limiting your world and this can help get you both out there, it boosts the enrichment factor in both your lives! This makes me thing of the "5000 years later..." meme 😂 ...Don't mind me, still paying into calm lead walking with my spaniel 😄 There are so many tools and methods that promise a quick fix but a dog is not a car or a computer or phone. It takes time to work on an emotional level, to help them feel calmer and more confident. It doesn't happen overnight. It's also ok to continue to use treats here and there long after you've "trained" something. It's interesting, rewarding and motivating for the dog. You don't have to shovel treats in constantly but keep investing into the good stuff. Ever heard the saying "A happy dog is a tired dog"? That's all well and good, but what happens when your dog never seems to tire - no matter how much you walk them?

As a spaniel owner, I understand. Long walks only made him fitter and faster!

Through training my pup, I discovered that mental stimulation is far more tiring for dogs than walks. I was amazed at how soundly he slept after just a few minutes of playing these games.
