🐮 Steer Wrestling, also known as “Bulldogging”, is a rodeo event demonstrating strength and teamwork between a Steer Wrestler (sometimes called a “Bulldogger”), a Hazer, and their horses.

The goal of the event is for the Steer Wrestler to jump off their horse and wrestle a steer to the ground as quickly as possible. The Hazer helps keep the steer running straight for the Steer Wrestler.

Guess what ‼️ Our January Horse of the Month is a Steer Wrestling horse.

❓ Have you ever heard the phrase “no foot, no horse” ❓

Well here at Achieve Equine, maker of FLAIR® Strips, we believe “no lungs, then no feet needed”‼️

While it’s true horses wouldn’t be very functional without feet, there is no question that they couldn’t exist without their lungs 🫁 !

Horses are obligate nasal breathers, meaning they can only breathe through their noses during intensive exercise. They take in air through their nose, which then travels down the trachea into their lungs. From there, the air travels into the alveoli and oxygen diffuses across the pulmonary capillary membrane to the red blood cells in the pulmonary capillaries to be transported throughout the body.

When the oxygen-rich blood reaches the muscles, the oxygen is converted into ATP which is the energy that powers exercise. 🤯

One thing that makes horses super athletes is their highly efficient transfer of oxygen from the alveoli to the red blood cells to maximize energy utilization.

To get the oxygen to the muscles, it first has to move into the nostrils and through the nasal passages, the narrow part of the horse’s upper respiratory system.
