First of the official Barn Hunt Trials today. We had dogs gaining their Instinct title and some Novice Qualifiers. We had 1 x Chihuahua, 5 x Dandie Dinmont Terriers,2 x Australian Cattle Dogs and a Border Collie, and an Affenpinscher take part.

Today was the first Official Barn Hunt Trial. Ten dogs took part: 1 x Chihuahua, 1 x Border Collie, 1 x Affenpinscher, 2 x Australian Cattle Dogs and 5 x Dandie Dinmont Terriers. Congratulations to Harriet with Nev, Bob, Hank, Ludwig and Lettie for gaining their Instinct title. and your first Novice qualifiers with Nev and Hank. Congratulations to Bev, with Gretsch and Quinn, on both their Instinct titles and your Novice qualifier with Gretsch and Congratulations to Judith with Phoebe on your Instinct title and Novice qualifier.

Today was the last day of Trail Hunt International foundations plus. We played games did a Trail then ate some lovely food. We missed you Judy Cockburn.

I have just added the taster to Trail Hunt International to the website, the date is 12th January 2025, with Foundation Workshops taking place on the 26th Jan, 16th Feb, 2nd March and 23rd March. These will all be held at Copmanthorpe, York.

Trail Hunt is a blend of Tracking and Trailing where you dog must follow the aniseed trail to find its pod. It can be trained anywhere and on your own, and you can run more than one dog on the same trail after foundations are learn't, it is ideal mental and physical stimulation for your dog.

We start of with Foundations where you are taught how to imprint the odour and start doing turns on trails on hard and soft surfaces..

After this comes Foundations plus where you and your dog are taught how to discriminate between human and trail odour more skills are learnt and by now you will be learning how to read your dogs body language.

After this comes Components Level 1, which is high pod, back trail, distractions, gap in the trail, multiple pods, gate/barrier, odour pools, no odour indication and finding the start of the trail..

Then comes components Level 2, Water find, second odour, buried hide, distraction odour/split trail, door entries, cross trail, multi odour trail, and hidden pod.

After this we work on Level 3 components, Switching trails, Moving pod, aged trails, night trails elevated trails and double odour split trails.

All the components are worked as stand alone exercises before we start putting them on the trail.

There are achievement tests which are designed to challenge you and your dog's learning and also grade tests, which are structured so there is something for everyone.

2025 will see Trail Hunt International trials for those of us who like to compete.

Yesterday saw Jan and Jet and Andrea and Monty complete there Scentwork Beginner classes. Both dogs have done amazingly well. :-)

8th December, Rapid Run, 1 x space on Fun Sessions, Spaces still available for the Tournament.

I will be adding Trail Hunt, Have A Go Sessions and Foundation Workshops for the beginning of the year to the website in the coming week, and Components Level 1. I will also add Scentowork Beginner Workshops and Scentwork Plus Continuation Sessions. Barn Hunt will be added for January and Febuary.
