Buck's Dog Training of Philadelphia Buck’s Dog Training takes a balanced, holistic approach to dog training. We design a training program tailored to the specific needs of the dog.

Julie grew up surrounded by animals; her parents allowed her to have anywhere from ten to 30 pets if she took on the responsibility to care for all of them. This started Julie’s passion for learning how to communicate with animals of all species. In her late teens, Julie moved to Philadelphia and got her first dog, a Siberian Husky, from Canada. She read as many dog books as possible and began her

education on individual breeds and their traits. While continuing her work with dogs, Julie also became more involved with wild animal rescue and rehabilitation. In addition to volunteering at local schools with her current Siberian Husky, Gretl, teaching “proper pet care”, she has also been invited to talk at summer camps about respecting our urban wildlife. With this, Julie started the “Philly Wildlife Connection” FB group in hopes to educate and connect others with a love for urban wildlife. Outside of working with animals, Julie is a fantastic artist with work published in multiple Children’s books! Whether she is training a dog, lecturing about urban birds, or illustrating a children’s book, animals have always been her passion- which you can easily see with her training results. Julie’s training tip is: “Patience is the key to dog training. If you elevate your emotion, then the dog gets excited… and we all know where it goes from there. Being calm and patient during training will get you results and keep training enjoyable.”

Seriously- this!!!!

Let's talk about this photo. It's cute, except it's not. I see a dog who cannot get up without telling the child to get off. How do you think a dog is going to do that?

The 7 Golden Toddler Dog Rules:
#1: If a dog walks away from you, you DO NOT FOLLOW.
#2: Always leave room for the dog to walk away from you.
---that right there is 90+% of dog bites eliminated---
#3: We do not climb on the dog.
#4: We do not grab or pull on the dog.
#5: We do not hit or throw anything at the dog.
#6: We do not touch the dog's food.
#7: We do not go into the dog's kennel.

I promise these are not overly difficult concepts for littles, nor will they rob a kid of their bond with the family dog. It will deepen that bond, while keeping everyone safe.

"Oh, it looks like Moose is walking away from you. She is saying she wants a break. Let's play with this instead!"

"It's Moose's dinner time! Let's give her space to enjoy her yummies."

"That is Moose's room(kennel) and only she is allowed to go in there."

"If Moose wanted a break, could she walk away from you right now? No she really couldn't. Let's move away from the play house. You can keep playing but now she can leave when she wants a break."

In conclusion, ***parent your child or your dog will do it for you, and you will not like how they do it.***

Zombie spent his working days protecting public transportation hubs.

He kept people safe. But, sadly when he was retired, he wasn't given the same considerations.

On the day of his rescue, he weighed 51 lbs. Today he weighs 74. He was rescued alongside 27 other canine working dogs from what was meant to be their respite.

He is nearly 11-years-old and deserves the chance to finally rest his tired body.

Learn more about his rescue: https://www.facebook.com/PennsylvaniaSPCA/posts/837226218433773

And please share to help these hero dogs finally find the homes they deserve.

Welcome Logan back to our program! He’s with me for a week to work on his impulse control. We are starting immediately with how he exits a crate. I had him in a down, in the crate, while I put his gentle leader on. And then I had him stay a little longer while I filmed this video. He has good basic obedience- just is impulsive about reacting to dogs when on leash. Follow along- comment- like!!!!

A glimpse of cross training with Kai. He was very anxious, not sure about all the dogs and smells. He is making progress, small steps, but I’ll take it!
