We would like to take the next several weeks to introduce you to our local owners. They may service different areas of the KC metro, but they work together as a team to support and grow the business. First up...
Hello, my name is Jeanna Womack and I own the Lee’s Summit, Olathe and Liberty locations of Latchkey Pets. I recently got married and my husband, Joel, is now also a member of our Liberty team. Combined we have two sons, a daughter, three large dogs, two cats and a school of fish! It is a zoo, but I love it!
I grew up loving animals and as a young child I wanted to be a veterinarian. In 2001, I graduated from Northwest Missouri State University with a degree in Family and Child Studies. Supporting families has always been my passion, but how I have done this has evolved through my life. As a teenager, I was a babysitter and in college I worked with a family with special needs child. After college, I supported foster and adoptive families while working at the Children’s Division and then became an in-home daycare provider after I had children of my own.
In 2010, after having my second child, I became a stay at home mom. Around the same time my dad went back to work after being temporarily retired. In retirement he was doing some pet sitting for families in his neighborhood and he named his business Latchkey Pets. Since he went back to work, he asked me if I wanted to do some of the pet sitting visits when he was unable to. I quickly fell in love with the gig and knew this was my path. I began to grow the business organically while my kids were very young. The business really took off after they both entered school. I never dreamed I would be a business owner, but I have grown to love the challenges and rewards.
I love being able to provide dependable care for the pets of local families. It became clear to me early on that this was a service people needed and wanted. I wanted to grow this business to be able to support the entire metro area. I knew I couldn’t do that on my own while also being a mom that was available to the extent I wanted to be for my two sons, now 14 & 17 years old. In 2019, I went through the process of franchising my company and was thrilled that my team member, Melanie, wanted to be my first franchisee. My passion has now transitioned into supporting women in starting their own pet care businesses.
It brings me so much joy to support families with their pet care needs, to support my team members in making a little extra money for their families and to support women starting their own business. AND I get to play and snuggle with pets everyday!
