Thanks to everyone that came out Saturday for the Workshop! Some new dogs learned new boundaries while others in the activity class learned new exercises for wearing out their dogs this winter. Seen in the video was Lori, who was looking to stop the lagging her dog has been experiencing. As you can see the "touch" method has vastly improved the heeling. While Ron ran the class portion Lisa can be seen in the next ring performing directed jumping with one of the day's attendees. All functional to our breed. Next Workshop will be December 19th with all of the current pandemic precautions still in place. The Group Walk will be this coming weekend so watch your emails for the time and place!
So, by request, this is the last video of this series. This is an extension of the “leave it” command seen with the squirrel. It involves how to keep your heavily distracted dog focused on you when confronted in any condition by an annoying unattended, obnoxious barker. The dog in question is “that” dog on everyone’s route that is left to bark at every dog walking by. Every other dog we encounter on our walks garners not so much as a glance from Lucie but this one upsets her to the max. With that in mind notice I give no correction unless she displays an action about to happen. This gives her the chance to make the mistake to bark without permission but the goal is to correct before her action. She learns by correction or tapping to regain her focus and remember the boundaries. I then allow her to be a GSD by command to bark then regain her again utilizing the methods we teach. I did this for this video though otherwise we don’t practice this or I would be the one harassing a dog. 😉 Outdoor Workshops coming soon. Watch for details as the classes will be limited in size and require reservations. Thanks, Ron
One of the differences with our classes is how they accent a normal obedience class. Rather than just walking slow with our dogs we teach you to teach your dog your language. In this video, due to the sheet of ice covering the entire outdoors Ron was able to open his door and let his excited GSD out saying "easy" which means just that. Instead of running out the door like a ramped up teenager only to fall flat on her face or worse she eased out and walked safely to her outdoor duties.
Today was the last demo for the GSD Club's Workshop Demo Team of 2019. They performed at lunch break at the Fall Obedience Specialty Show. Today's team was comprised of Mia Mannetter, Sarah Heath, Kim Morris, Holly Fitzenberger, Lisa Cirks-Veit and Ron Halling with Laura Meyer in attendance! Just yet another fun activity for the pet owners the Workshop has to offer. What a great job folks!!!
