🦒 Meet Kafele, the majestic male giraffe at Longneck Manor! 🦒

Kafele needed radiographs to continue to assess and monitor his overall bone health. Thanks to the incredible training program at Longneck Manor, this process went as smoothly as possible.

Many facilities have giraffes that participate in voluntary behaviors. We wanted to take a moment to highlight the importance of positive reinforcement and training for veterinary procedures. By prioritizing Kafele’s comfort and well-being, we can ensure he continues to thrive at Longneck Manor.

🥂 Cheers to Wanda Woman aka Gramma 🥂

Today, we shine a spotlight on an exceptional person and a true champion of exotic wildlife care - Wanda the EWVS Exotics Neonatal Manager. Wanda has created a nurturing environment that fosters the growth and well-being of countless neonatal animals. When we call in the middle of the night no matter the question the answer is always “Yes I will meet you at the barn, let’s do this!”

Wanda’s passion for exotic wildlife is contagious. Her knowledge and expertise have been instrumental in providing the highest standard of care for these delicate creatures. With her keen eye and gentle touch, she ensures that every neonate receives the individualized attention they need to thrive.

What makes Wanda truly remarkable is her unwavering compassion. She not only cares for all of these remarkable animals, she cares for our team in our darkest moments battling to save the lives of every animal that enters the door.

Thank you, Wanda, for your incredible work, your passion, and your heart. You embody what it means to be a true advocate for exotic wildlife, and we are incredibly fortunate to have you as part of our team!

We love you Gramma ♥️

We are thrilled to highlight the recent collaboration between our dedicated exotic wildlife veterinary team, led by Dr. David Love, and Dr. Jeremy Fleming, DVM, DACVS-SA, a skilled Small Animal Surgeon at the Austin Veterinary Emergency and Specialty Center. Together, they successfully performed two laparoscopic salpingo-oophorectomies on capuchin monkeys, a crucial procedure for ensuring the health and well-being of these remarkable primates.

Salpingo-oophorectomy, the surgical removal of the ovaries and fallopian tubes, is often performed to prevent reproductive issues and manage health concerns in female monkeys. This procedure not only helps in population control but also plays a vital role in improving the overall quality of life for these animals by reducing the risk of certain diseases.

The teamwork displayed during this surgery exemplifies the commitment we have to providing the highest level of care for exotic wildlife. By combining expertise from both the exotic and surgical fields, Dr. Love and Dr. Fleming ensured a safe and effective surgical experience for the capuchins.

We’re proud to have such dedicated professionals working together to advance the health of exotic wildlife and contribute to their conservation. 🌟

⚠️ Warning Graphic ⚠️

This Grevys Zebra found himself in a sticky predicament. Thankfully the stick missed the vital areas of the chest and Dr. Gulley and veterinary technician Kerigan were able to carefully remove it and fix him up. We’re happy to report he’s back in the breeding herd - stick free!

Move over Moo Deng there’s a new Squishy in town ♥️

Did you know that a baby pygmy hippo weighs approximately 13 to 15 pounds at birth? They often stay close to their mother's side, using her for safety and guidance. As they got older and more playful they frolic in the water and explore their surroundings!
