Casa Metta is the name of a property on the slopes of the extinct Barva Volcano in San Miguel de San Jose de la Montana, Barva, Heredia, Costa Rica. A public bus passes the front of the property, into Heredia (no car needed).

Casa Metta consists of 3 acres and 8 buildings on a gorgeous landscape with rolling hills and lots of trees, plants, etc.

Erich & Wendy Strebe own this property and have lived here for 10 years as of April 2020 (having lived in Costa Rica since 2003). They have done many things with this property, a B & B and a Healing Center (the healing will continue here), however now there is a new plan.

The dream has always been to make this property as sustainable as possible and the time to finally realize this is now. Wendy & Erich desire to grow more food, keep more chickens and potentially other birds, raise mushrooms and maybe goats. They are looking to form partnerships with some other permaculture minded people, who would like to rent and live on this property with them.

The climate is 60 to 80 degrees Fahrenheit year round, at 5700 feet / 1700 meters). There is abundant water on this mountain and it is fresh spring water. By testing, this is the best quality water in the country. The air is always fresh and clean. It is farm and ranch country up here, but we are only 20 minutes, by car, from downtown Heredia.

The rentals available at this time are:

A fully furnished, very spacious 2/2, with tons of living space, a large area for yoga or whatever, a fully equipped kitchen, an office area and a dinning room, for rent long term. Both bedroom have comfortable queen beds. It is a lovely, art filled space, fully equipped. It could house 2 - 4 people (2 couples or a couple with kids) comfortably. $1500/month including all utilities (water, electricity, internet).

A small container house with a queen bed and bunk beds, a kitchen and bathroom with walk-in shower and a living area. It sits in its own private garden with a huge lemon tree, three Australian cherry trees and a guava tree, all producing. It is a wonderful spot for one person. It could house 2 minimalists. My son, his wife, and daughter lived there for over a year. $800/month including all utilities (water, electricity, internet).

We truly are seeking people who want to work side-by-side with us to create a Garden of Eden. We already have over 50 fruit trees, many herbs and a few vegetables growing. We also have another building that we may convert into another rentable space, in a bit of time. We want to live in community with like-minded people.

The renters must have income to pay the rent, but they can work online or off the property even. The permaculture aspect would not be a full-time endeavor or requirement. We desire those who want to live peacefully, in nature, growing food and eating (and sometimes sharing) healthy meals. We don’t have to hang out together a lot. But we do desire positive and kind relations.

We are in the creation process with this, so we are open to discussion. If you know anyone who might be interested, please share this with them. Living in community makes such beautiful sense as we move forward. We can watch out for each other and help each other. This is a very safe property and well-located to obtaining good and services.
