**Howard is still looking for his perfect forever home! I had the pleasure of meeting him in person today, and he is a beautiful, sweet boy!!! Extremely well mannered and very friendly!!**

This sweet boy (currently being called "Howard" was found in Glendale a couple of weeks ago by a very kind lady named Leslie. He is microchipped, but Home Again was unable to contact his owners (and are not willing to share the vet clinic's information that chipped him :( ) -- so Leslie is currently fostering him. She has her hands full with a 10 year old blind Boxer and a 6 month old Boxer puppy...so she is hoping to find a perfect home for Howard, where he can get the all of the attention and love he deserves!

Here is what Leslie has to say about Howard...

Howard is a big sweetheart of a pup who is in need of a loving home. He's a pit/lab mix, somewhere between 3-5 years old (approximately 60lbs), and is very ready to be a good boy who is content to sit at your feet and just be near you. He's playful and a bit shy, but once he knows you he will be your forever loyal friend! He has a few commands down, is ready to follow your lead and takes treats very gently. There's nothing he likes better than a few belly rubs! He is housebroken and neutered.

Howard would be best suited for a cat-free home (he loves to chase them!) and would thrive where he is the main pet. He doesn't need much, he just loves to relax and chew on a ball or squeaky toy.

He would be the best boy for his new forever home!

Leslie hasn't had him spend much time with her own dogs yet, so his compatibility with other dogs is unknown at this time...but he shows MUCH more interest in her rather than the other dogs.

If you are interested in adopting Howard or learning more about him, please contact Leslie by email at [email protected]

The Companion Events department is happy to announce a one-year "Fix 'n Go" pilot program, effective for all obedience trials held on or after April 1, 2021.

This pilot program will allow obedience exhibitors to use the "Fix 'n Go" option while performing in the ring at obedience trials when a dog's performance does not meet their expectation. The team will declare to the judge they wish to "Fix 'n Go." This option allows the team to reattempt one individual exercise and immediately leave the ring with an NQ score. See the full pilot program language below.

We will explore some of the benefits of visiting dog parks, as well as the negative aspects and how to minimize those as well as some alternatives to dog parks.

Find a Spot, Make a Spot: Sniffspot for Dogs and Their People David Adams, founder of SniffSpot, joins host Laura Reeves to share details of the hot new alternative to dog parks. “The easiest way to say it is AirBNB for dog parks and here’s how it works,” Adams said. “So the people that are....

For those of you with new puppies that you need to get out and about to expose to new environments, or maybe you want to work on training your dog off leash, but don't want to break leash laws or run the risk of your dog running off...check out SniffSpot! https://app.sniffspot.com/to/nlqnq

I've mentioned this app before, but I think it's worth bringing up again! Especially since I've taken advantage of it with my own dogs a couple of times now! :)

It's like AirBNB...but instead of renting a house to stay in, you just rent a yard for your dog(s) to play in! Safer than a dog park (especially for those of you with reactive dogs!) and some of them even have a pool that your dog can swim in!

There is also an opportunity to make some extra money (even up to $1000/mo!) if you would rather rent your own dog-friendly yard out once in a while!

Some breeds are easy to train with traditional methods, while others may require more creativity to convince them to do what you ask.

Training a dog with treats is one of the most popular methods today, and it seems to be replacing many of the old-school ways of using correction and force. But what if your pup doesn't like trea

Hi everyone! I hope you are all staying safe during this crazy time that we're all going through. I'm sure your dogs are THRILLED to have all of the extra time with you!

If you have some extra time on your hands now, how about obtaining an AKC Trick Dog title for your dogs??!!

AKC has started allowing evaluators like myself to conduct virtual evaluations! You can now send me a video of your dog completing the tricks required for the titles and I can approve your evaluations that way! If you would like more information on this option, please feel free to message, email ([email protected]) or call (623-694-9094) me!

Cost for the evaluation is just $10 per dog per level (payable through PayPal, Venmo, or Zelle)!

Here is a link to the requirements for each level - https://www.akc.org/sports/trick-dog/resources/trick-dog-applications/ - just click on the level you are working toward for a list of acceptable tricks!

If you are in the Phoenix/Glendale area, remember, I'm still doing private lessons...so if you need some help teaching those tricks, please call for an appointment!

I just got a notification from Facebook that this page has reached 500 "likes" -- thank you to everyone that follows me here! I apologize, I'm not as active on this page as I should be...but I plan to change that! I'm going to make an attempt to post more "tips & tricks" as well as things to do with your dog - especially while so many people are spending more time at home with their dogs!! :)

I mentioned yesterday that I am still happy to do in-home private lessons and my conformation handling classes will continue on 3 times each week (unless the City of Glendale requires me to stop teaching them at park...but I don't anticipate that). While I don't usually recommend board and train options for most behavioral problems (if the rules don't change in your dog's daily environment, the behaviors won't change!), they can be a great opportunity for learning new commands, helping with mild separation anxiety, and great for mental stimulation! Watch for some less expensive "board & train" type options to be available soon!!!

Also, while not YOUNG any more, I'm certainly not in the "at risk" age group yet...I'm a healthy person that rarely gets sick...so honestly, I am not worried about getting this virus myself (I'm quite confident that with some rest and OTC meds, I would be fine quickly if I were to get it)....I AM concerned for those in the "at risk" group and extremely concerned for what this is going to do to our country (and the world) financially, and we all know that socialization is important (not only for our dogs, but also for US!). That being said, I am also available to help those of you in the Phoenix/Glendale, AZ area that might need someone to go to the store for you, pick up dog food/medications, take your dog to the vet, etc. I'm happy to do this in my spare time (which I seem to have a LOT of right now!)...donations not required, but GREATLY appreciated for this service!

I'm not a technology expert by any means either, however I think I can figure out how to do a video call if anyone would like to schedule a "virtual" lesson or do a phone consultation for specific issues you might be having. Cost for this service is $25/half hour (payable through Venmo or Zelle). Please message, email, or call if you would like to take advantage of this or any other service I've mentioned. www.maverickdogtraining.com

Stay safe, and enjoy this extra time with your dogs!!!

I just wanted to let everyone know that I am still offering in-home private lessons. Please call 623-694-9094 if you would like to schedule a lesson! Also, I am available for boarding as well as board and train options since my travel plans have all been canceled for the next few months. Please call to discuss!
