Well...that's a successful lock 😅
Isles des Pines pair enjoying the pressure drops and making the most of it.

As you can see, not all leachie breeding is brutal.
I am a huge believer in "big viv, little problems", and it's paying off!
This female has laid 2 dud pairs this year, and this is the fist confirmed lock I have seen so fingers crossed for some chunky eggs in the coming months😁

Also apologies for the glass...yeah you saw my previous video...you don't have clean class and leachies in the same sentence

How black is bumble....pitch! This isn't even fully fired, and you can tell because of the pale rather than yellow pattern but still! The contrast gets me every time!

A little fact about Leachianus; as well as pre-cloacal pores, leachies both male and female cloacally-scent mark by inverting their cloacal lips.
This is done for several purposes:
1) to scent their hollow, and trails to their hollows. Hollows are the most important part of a leachies habitat, they are a premium for breeding, incubating, and security/shelter. No hollows, no leachies...so keeping hold of them is key.

2) similar to the former, marking terrority.
Females especially are territorial and therefore marking the area goes some way to protect area and resource.

3) scent marking mates. The pair will often crawl on each other marking as they go. It is believed this strengthens and re-enforces the bond. This may also be the reason we often see them nose to tail.

With a complex pairing process, a unique vocal system, and a technical scenting/territorial behaviour, there is no wonder these are compared to ground nesting birds.

Its sometimes easy to get kicked down by activism and irrational ideologies that have us worrying in the back of our minds.
Listening to Tony and the RRK talk is a bit like having an arm around our shoulders telling us "don't worry guys, you have nothing to be embarrassed by, you're doing great". Really good pick up!

When I get my podcast going, I'll be taking alot of Inspiration from the likes of the RRK in terms of respectable, responsible, and approachable media!

Tell you what, letting the geckos play in the mini tree while i clean and feed is great. My little man loves to help and mist them down while they play😁
Today Orion helped egg hunt, he learned about the cheerio and how to set up in the incubator, he helped paint a new viv, clean and feed and mix pangea to perfection!
He was late to bed but totally worth it 🤩😅

Just wait until I build the full room tree system 😅😅

Another background built!😁 still needs light fittings and other gubbins before finished, but my aim is to upgrade all of my leachies into these by the end of the year including UV to be added to the existing 5, and then Start on crestie customs.

A while back i got a really dark male, Bumble.

This is one of his offspring.

This one is so so so dark! He has the same as dad too with the dark tongue and dark eyes. Looking forward to working with the line and seeing what it does.

Well this little monkey must have decided he would flip his food lid and lost it as a result.

Mid afternoon I heard a wierd tapping noise that when traced, was this guy trying to get under his now spilt food to no success.

Poor little mite; so had to make him some fresh for an afternoon treat!

Got to keep these guys happy so they don't take our souls 😝

As promised, BeyonaseX, male RTB that will be at the show.

Currently in a large RUB so i can ensure he makes it to the show as numbnuts(me), decided it would be excellent to build the Cork tubes into the backgrounds of the vivs meaningi can never get to animals😅. I saw an opportunity while feeding to nab him...as you can see, we are no longer friends 🤣

I enjoy building vivs...and really enjoy the idea of enrichment and watching behaviour.... so I'm building a tree...🫡
The idea I have in my head I popped into AI and it created this. As such I will be making an Aldi/wish.com version 🤣
Couple of night vision cameras and I can watch the pairing of leachies, feeding cresties, and what ever behaviour they offer me ( not all at once that is😅), all while "pretending" to watch Brigitons with the missus.

All I have to do now..is figure out how to make it mobile, how to dismantle when not in use.... and how to actually make the thing in the first place 🤣
I'm 40% sure I'm 20% likely to succeed on the 3rd attempt

When cleaning i used to put geckos in a box. It made sense after all. However, just spent a small fortune on a fake ficus and have to say it's working treat. Worth every penny!
Putting cresities in as I clean and they are loving the exploration.
Enrichment is important, and as a breeder, its sometimes easy to get into the rut of cleaning feeding and maintaining. We don't always stop to think and enjoy their behavior and characters as much as we used to. I am definitely getting more into it again and enjoying the little things. Sure these guys do too😁

Ambient lighting on some of the vivs. Just enough so i can watch them venture out when the lights go go off , but before dark. They are on for a couple of hours.
Think I may but these in all of the vivs. nice little touch😁

Please excuse the fact they are basking in their own ambience...transportation and leachies = diabolical stench... you should smell the car🤢

Anywho, yesterday we got 9 new adult leachies of various locale! I am so pleased with how beautiful these animals are.

Leachies stole my heart around 5 years ago and since then I have been building the collection and quietly breeding (as of recently).

We now have a collection of 20+ leachies, plus babies... plus eggs...so...I would say I'm committed to the species 🤣

These are going to make some amazing projects and knowing the story behind the people I bought them off, I am already sure of one of the project names.

Below are a few of the males with bold snowflaks. 2025 we should have around 7-9 breeding pairs of different locales all veing well. These will be big, impressive, and colourful!... you just need to twist my arm to sell some as I have to say.. I am back to hording😅

There will be some babies for sale at the show in June and September as well as some adults to see and hold if you are looking at getting into leachies and want to see how fun they are to interact with as they grow😁
