The Annual Pet Photo Contest is finally here!!!!📷
Here are the details:
- Submit photos via e-mail to [email protected]
- Each family may submit up to 3 photos for consideration.
- Please do not submit photos with people in the picture.
- Winning submissions will be made into a canvas print and will be displayed in the JCVC office throughout 2025. At the end of the year, you will be able to claim your canvas print and take it to display in your home.
Keep in mind that we can only use high resolution photos to create the canvas prints. If your photo becomes pixelated when enlarged, we probably won't be able to use it. When e-mailing the photo, choose "actual size" for file size.
Deadline for submissions is 12/16/2024!
We can't wait to see the memories you've captured this year!
*** Also, if you were a winner of last year's contest, please stop at the clinic to pick up your canvas, so you can enjoy it in your own home!***

Don't forget to stop in tomorrow between 8am and 5pm to get a pet friendly treat bag for your dog or cat. No costumes necessary!
Just a friendly reminder to keep all candy away from your dogs and cats. See the infographic from the ASPCA below. To put things in better perspective:
•A Hershey kiss is about 0.16oz of chocolate. A toxic dose for a 5 # dog would be about 9 milk chocolate and about 4 dark chocolate kisses.
• A miniature Hershey bar is about 0.3oz of chocolate. A toxic dose for a 5 # dog would be about 5 milk chocolate and about 2 special dark bars.
• One square of baker's chocolate is 1oz. A toxic dose for a 5 # dog would be less than a 1/4 square.
If your pet gets into chocolate (or any candy) call the office at 920-699-7297 or the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center at 888-426-4435 right away!

With Halloween fast approaching, we wanted to give you some tips to keep in mind so everyone, including our furry friends, can have a safe and enjoyable time.
For our doggy friends:
• Some dogs may become anxious or even aggressive in unfamiliar situations. Kids dressed up, weird things moving around, flashing lights, and loud noises can be stressful to dogs. Be aware of your dog's body language. Ears back, eye brows furrowed, whale eyes 👀, avoiding eye contact/looking away from you 🙄🫣, tail tucked, and excessive panting can all be signs of an anxious or stressed dog. Make sure they have a place where they can go that makes them feel safe and comfortable.
• Keep candy out of your dog's reach. Most candy is toxic to dogs, including chocolate and gum (xylitol). You don't want to have to make your dog vomit 🤮.
• Remind your kids not to give your dog candy.
•If you dress your dog in a costume, make sure it is velcro fastening and comfortable. Avoid anything that covers the eyes 🫣, has anything dangly, or anything that can be swallowed (please refer to previous statement about not wanting to make your dog vomit 🤮). Test the costume out before the day to make sure it doesn't restrict movement and doesn't make your dog stressed. In that case, consider just a festive bandana or collar.
• If taking your dog trick or treating, again, remember to watch body language and make sure your dog has a well fitting collar, proper identification, and either a reflective or light up leash and/or collar (we want all dogs to go home at night).
For our kitty friends:
• Keep cats indoors. All of the commotion can be just too much🙀.
• Keep them confined in a bedroom or bathroom to avoid them sneaking out the door. Give them a bed and their favorite toys to make them as comfortable as possible.
• Keep candy in a cabinet or sealed container. While most dog owners may think about this, cats will get into candy, too. They can also get to places that your dogs can't get to, so make sure it is locked up.
• Be aware of your decorations. Avoid anything with strings or candles.
• And most importantly, don't be superstitious of our black cat friends🐈‍⬛️. They are not bad luck and actually in many cultures, are considered good luck. In Japan, they are believed to bring prosperity.
So please, keep this all in mind during this spooky time of year. While we love seeing all of your fur babies, we prefer to see them for wellness/happy visits.
That being said, we will have treats for our doggy, kitty, and human friends on October 31st, so stop in and pick some up. NO COSTUMES ARE NEEDED TO GET TREATS! We look forward to seeing you!!!!

Last, but not least, Jennie, Certified Veterinary Technician/Practice Manager, has only been at Johnson Creek Veterinary Care since August, but in the veterinary field for over 23 years. Since becoming a CVT in 2001, she has worked with not only dogs and cats, but also a variety of exotic animals and wildlife. Two of her favorite memories are drawing blood on a Turkey Vulture and a Toucan. Jennie lives on a hobby farm in Rome with her husband of 24 years, Dave, and their 2 daughters Lexie (18) and Nadia (15). Together they own: 4 dogs, a Chihuahua mix, One-eyed Willie, a Weimaraner mix, Jarvis, a double merle Australian Shepherd, Bucky Barnes, and a Potcake, Ronin; 2 Domestic Short-haired cats, Stan Lee and Groot; a Pot-bellied pig (that lives in the house), Harley; a Guinea Pig, Wanda; a rat Billy; 2 ferrets Felica and Fergie; 2 parakeets, Nico and Pedro; 2 Leopard Geckos, Venom and Carnage; a Crested Gecko, Eddie Brock; a Mali Uromastyx, Korg; 8 goats, Harry, Bellatrix, Nagini, Fred, Georgie, Helga, Draco, and Bean; a sheep, Sirius Black (he is the black sheep of the family 🤣); 2 turkeys, Butterball and Oscar; and 21 chickens (yes, they all have names). Here at JCVC, she works mostly behind the scenes, but will jump in to answer phones, help in exam rooms, and put her CVT skills to use whenever needed. She has brought positive energy and many great ideas to JCVC. We are lucky to have her many years of both animal and managerial experience to make JCVC a clinic poised to best serve our patients and owners.

In honor of Boss' day, what better day to post about our fearless leader, Dr. Amy Hudson. Dr. Amy opened Johnson Creek Veterinary Care 10 years ago. She has worked in the veterinary field for 23 years. She was born and raised in Jefferson where she still resides today. She lives with her husband of 17 years, Chris, and their 2 children Noah (16) and Charlie (14). Together they have 2 Terrier mixes, Carson and Sherman, and 2 Domestic Short-haired cats, Apollo and Aries. She is fostering Jack, a Labrador Retriever, who you may have seen wondering around the clinic. (If interested in giving Jack a permanent home, please go to Paddy's Paws rescue). Dr. Amy has also opened her home to hosting foreign exchange students. Her current student, Hadia, is from Pakistan. When asking Dr. Amy if there was anything she wanted to share, this was her response: "Serving pet owners and their pets in a community that I love fulfills my lifelong dream. We've developed an amazing team at JCVC that I think of as family. I am truly blessed!" Well Dr. Amy, on behalf of your staff and your clients, we are the ones that are blessed for you opening this beautiful clinic and welcoming us all to be part of it.
