To the followers and supporters of the Takiwatanga Sanctuary Animal Rescue.
It is with heavy hearts that we (Steve and Phil) are closing Takiwatanga Animal Rescue as of Fri this week, the 28th Feb 2025. We have been doing animal rescue work together for the last 9 years with Steve having been an animal rescuer for a number of years before that.
There are a number of reasons behind this decision, including the fact that we are not getting any younger and the amount of need out there just never gets any less no matter how much effort is put into it. The lack of funds and support has been noticeable since covid and everyone is struggling but we have continued to battle on. The vitriol and anonymous critique and abuse has escalated and this has also been a factor in our decision.
We are now working on other ways to support the community with their animals that does not involve rescue.
We are both looking forward to a period of slowing down and relaxing and would like to thank our supporters once again for all that they have done for us over the years.

Hapy New Year to all our supporters, followers and friends We hope you had a fantastic Christmas and a great New Year is ahead for us all. There is no break for us here atm and we continue to do what we do the best we can. We are heart broken, this morning we had to make the decision to send one of our beloved dogs across the Rainbow Bridge. Kozmo was 12 1/2 years old but had an un known advanced heart problem that meant her quality of life was going to be greatly impaired so the decision was made. Kozmo had been Phils dog from a small pup so as you can imagine he was broken to have had to make the decision that ultimately was in Kozmo's best interest.
