@bodithebirddog I will never understand the way people are so against e-collars and will often say ”just train your dog.” Regardless of how “well trained” you feel your dog is with recall it won’t override their instincts… especially with high energy hunting dogs. E-collars are not used to shock your dog into listening they are used as a communication device with multiple settings as an added security layer for your dog. With that being said there is a correct way to use these and nobody should purchase an e-collar without having a full understanding on how to appropriately use them. E-collars have allowed for Bodi to experience the freedom of hunting in unfamiliar terrain and running full speed while staying safe. It’s amazing to see him enjoy life to the fullest and communicate with us in such an effective way.

@lydiabairddogtraining “Ecollars help dogs live larger more expansive lives. They help owners have the safety and reliability that facilitates more freedom. They must be used responsibly, but that goes for all of the tools owners have at their disposal (leash, collar, voice, body, etc).”

@kylo.the.pomapoo we love our e-collar and the way it has opened up Kylo’s world but we’re often not met with the same reaction from others, we frequently hear phrases like “torture device” and “shock collar”, people thinking that we’re “shocking” our dog into compliance, for us, and majority of people using the e-collar correctly, this is far from the truth. so, let’s talk about it ⬇️
what the e-collar is
• a safe way for us to let Kylo off leash
• a tool that has made Kylo’s world much bigger than it would be otherwise
• something we use in addition to R+ methods
• a way to communicate clearly with Kylo when he’s at a distance
• a conditioned tool that we introduced with the help of a trainer and online resources
what the e-collar isn’t
• abusive
• a shock collar
• for bad dogs, or lazy owners
• a tool that only creates fear
• an alternative to actually training your dog
common misconceptions we hear
• dogs are always in pain when this tool is used
• using an e-collar will weaken your relationship with your dog
• your don’t won’t listen without the e-collar on
• using an e-collar is an alternative to actually training your dog

Does this look painful to you? Absolutely not. E-Collar = Communication!!!

"let me tell you why WE use an ecollar 👇🏼
🤍 to be off leash safely
🤍 to provide clear and direct communication
🤍 to allow my dog the gift of freedom
the subject of an ecollar or tools in general when it comes to dog training has always been quite the debate. I often get questions when we are out and about and our tools are visible.
The most frequent questions I get:
❔what is that?
❔does it hurt him?
❔what does it do?
this is an ecollar. It provides a stim that is set to the level that works for my dog. Here you can see he is at a 10. The stim level goes from 0-99. Some dogs work at higher levels while some only use the vibrate or tone function - it all depends on the dog. The stim for my dog means “come to me for a treat”. It is a reward based tool for him. It’s all about balance, trust and how the tool is introduced.
be sure to take the time to celebrate your wins with your dog, regardless of what tools, methods or styles you follow. Just because a tool doesn’t work for you (or does!) doesn’t mean that tool won’t have different outcome with others. we support ecollar users and wouldn’t be where we are today without ours 🧡" - Emilie Wagner

“This is gonna ruffle feathers but I’m feeling like feathers need to be ruffled 🤭
I just…I cannot with the people screaming “but the science says!!!!” in the faces of people who are saying “e-collars SAVED MY DOGS LIFE!”. 🫠
It’s not a dog training problem, it’s a people problem. People who have the problem of wanting to “be right”, and care less about kindness than they do about proving a misguided point. A point that thousands of dog owners experience doesn’t support. They say you can’t argue science but I don’t think you can argue away someone’s lived, valid experience either.
I’ll go back to dog training tips on my next post I promise, but some days I just cannot with the internet 🤪” - Samantha Ewashko
