“You can just register him”
“Walmart is pet friendly”
“It’s not a big deal”
“Well my dog is friendly”
“It’s just a quick trip”
Bringing pets into non pet friendly places is illegal.
Faking your pet as a service dog is illegal.
Your ten second selfish decision risked thousands of dollars in a legitimate service dog’s career. Your ten second selfish decision stressed your dog out so much they attacked a child because you never thought your dog would bite. Your ten second selfish decision encouraged others to bring their pets in places they shouldn’t be and aren’t trained to handle.
Registration/certification is a scam in the USA. It has no legal standing. What makes a dog a service dog? The handler must be disabled and the dog must be tasked trained to mitigate that disability. When in public the dog has to be UNDER CONTROL and potty trained. Your dog lunging at my dog that’s worth 10,000$ is not under control. If void was attacked she could’ve lost her career. She could’ve been seriously injured. She could’ve became reactive and reactivity is dangerous.
Keep your pets out of places they aren’t allowed to be in. If not for respect of the law, then respect for your pet and the safety of others. It’s unlikely you spent years training that dog to handle the stress of the public. Stressed dogs bite. Dogs that bite are euthanized. For the safety of your pet, don’t bring them into non pet friendly places or places they can not handle even if it is pet friendly.
Context also matters. Just before this we were playing ski ball, which was Fenrir’s first time experiencing. He got overly excited about the throwing and sound that he kept breaking his down to see what was happening.
This stress is happy stress. Yes, that is a thing. He was overstimulated by the exciting game I was involved in.
When to remove your service dog/in training from an area?
•when they arent/can’t listen
•when they’re fixated
•when refusing treats
•when unable to settle and calm themselves down
It is ok to work through stress, just be appropriate about it. You can not work through a dog lunging at others within three feet. That is not appropriate. Remove yourselves, add distance and try again. Stress will never be able to be avoided at all times. Bad stress and happy stress. Luckily for Fenrir- it’s generally happy stress and he’s good at working through it.

Some wheelchair fun
Fenrir doesn’t mind being a Guinea pig for my wheelchair practice. Next month I have a service dog in training board and train and wheelchair work is critical for her so I’m practicing beforehand and trial and erroring what I like and don’t like dog wise
How is this important
Dogs in general lack body awareness. Yours and theirs. They don’t know they have back legs, they don’t know how to work around you, they can be clumsy, etc.
As a service dog (in training) it’s important for the dog to be able to work without getting in the way of the public or their handler. Which is why heeling and advanced heeling is important. How tedious is it to be walking and suddenly need to turn and step on your dog. Or to constantly reposition them everytime you need to turn or slow down or stop. Having a dog who automatically stops, backs up with you, turns with you is so much easier and helps stay out of the public’s way when they’re working. I expect all dogs I work with to eventually be able to do this, unless directed otherwise they should be at my side. Penny is quickly learning the ropes, but this is actually pretty hard despite her making it look easy.
Body awareness and leave it has been our focus for the past week, and working on being around dogs when the times come.
He’s gotten so much better at turning with me

Fenrir learning to play basketball to pass our “advanced trick” skill
Tweaking Fenrir’s retrievals and introducing give and drop. Took Fenrir a long time to understand the difference between five and drop, but he’s getting it.

Some fun with Fenrir before class starts
For one of our skills we need to teach back up facing the handler. I’ve never taught this before 🤭, I’ve taught back up in heeling because it’s useful and I’ve always wanted to teach it facing me, but never got to it. And then I thought.. what if I can get him to back up into a wall and he keeps going into a handstand 😳
This is where we’re at with this trick. 😌 I’m excited
