Introducing Butch

Butch is almost a year old mixed breed who’s owned by an older couple who’s having trouble just having him exist. He has poor leash skills, can’t settle, excite pees, tries to eat everything in the house so they started limiting him to their yard and the kitchen where he can’t reach anything.
Our goals for butch is to have him be able to exist in the house and go on walks appropriately.

Today we introduced muzzle training and Fenrir to remi

Remi is anxious and insecure and doesn’t know what to do with himself. So for safety in future interactions we decided to start muzzle training. We also ended up introducing Fenrir and remi together and it took remi a minute, but then they were best buds. Fenrir was a great boy to introduce to remi where he doesn’t take his awkwardness personally and is just happy to be there.

With void now being placed and in her new home I wanted to talk about why someone would have two service dogs and is it even legal.

The ADA mentions this specifically that an individual may be accompanied by two service animals and an example used was that the dogs provided different tasks. So yes it is legal for someone to have two service animals.

But why? For this client’s situation Lilly, the small dog, was washed from public access because of nervousness and infrequent reactivity. She excelled obedience wise and task wise, but confidence and the public wasn’t in her stars. Void on the other hand did great task wise AND public wise however there were some tasks she just didn’t have the drive for.
So Lilly continued with the tasks we started at home because she had so much enthusiasm to keep learning. And void did the slower less energy tasks and attends public with her handler. They both provide different tasks for their handler.

Most people who have a service dog have just one who can do it all and that’s great and preferred for many. However sometimes it just isn’t feasible despite the dog being a good candidate in general. Splitting up the work between two dogs can be helpful.

We’ve been reworking void’s settling and food and today it paid off as we walked through a buffet with minimal effort and she settled under our table as a kid kept running past us.

3 more weeks of Void before she’s permanently placed

The weather hasn’t been kind to us making our last month together not easy so I’ve been trying to make up that time by working on house manners and food. Today it was 23 degrees instead of 7 and sun instead on wind and clouds so we took advantage and went to the park where she’s randomly decided playing fetch is more fun than harassing Fenrir.

Void is back from her week long trip to Chicago via her first plane ride with her handler

Void and her handler flew out and back. She went to the movies, restaurants, aquarium etc
And I hear she did amazing even when a police dog wasn’t so friendly towards her. Outside of a couple instances with food in their housing, which I am addressing, the lil lady was on her best behavior. They did that trip which was many firsts for Void all without me. Huge proud moment for this team.

Void is taking her CGC test the 14th which is part of their handler training before she goes home. So we’re having fun going back to basics, specifically ones she’s been struggling with lately.

Introducing Apollo

This derpy mixed breed is trying out day trainings for pet obedience skills. Recall, not jumping, crate manners, leash skills..

Today we introduced leash pressure games, crate games, engagement games and briefly the grooming table. He goes feral for the flirt pole

Bye bye chief!

Chief showed off a handful of skills today to his owners at lowes AND his new and improved emotions regulation skills regarding his previous reactivity. He did really well and now it’s up to his family to keep up with it. I hope to see him again for some follow up sessions.

Well 3 weeks in and chief is making is his first lowes trip!

We had a short trip to Lowe’s of walking around and exploring a bit. He offered heeling the whole time and appropriately watched people without fixating or reacting. 3 weeks ago he was lunging, fixating, barking and trying to bite me out of frustration. Today he’s heeling through lowes and playing with me and ignoring people.
Our goals for this last week is to do more public outings, transfer him off the prong now that he isn’t lunging anymore and advance outside obedience skills.

Void is actively recovering from her spay surgery and I’m planning the rest of her stay with mobility training advancements now that I got her OFA results. She’s safe to continue working and be placed.

Introducing remi

Remi is a young mixed breed dealing with excited reactivity, jumping and really rough rude playing with people and dogs alike. He wants everyone to be his friend, but it hurts when he tries and he doesn’t understand it.
His owner is introducing him to AKC titles to give him a job and learning how to manage his behavior with others. He’s very food and toy motivated which makes things much easier on her!

Chief has been here a handful of days now.
We’ve been working on his luring, so I can teach skills easier, for his breakfast and dinner. For our afternoon training we work on his reactivity.

Void had probably the longest day of her life

This morning we drove to the city to go to an oddities expo where she did fantastic. Ignoring crowds and dogs and settling fast and getting up to move without complaint. Afterwards we attended a friends graduation and then out for food and a trip to target. She gave no cares for the long day and received many compliments at the expo.

Also peep the new equipment. Her handler needs extra help because void is figuring out she can get away with some behaviors that aren’t appropriate. So we reintroduced a head halter for the handler’s comfort and safety.

Void and Mickey taking on Walmart

This was their first official non pet friendly outing together and I joined to help Mickey be more confident in handling void and how to handle some situations. First time handlers usually are very anxious to work their dog in general, but especially in non pet friendly PA. What if my dog makes a mistake? What if there’s a pet or fake service dog? What if my dog greets someone? What if what if what if. Let me say, you and your dog are allowed to take up space. You’re allowed to confront people. Trust your dog. Trust how they handle their environment. And know that dogs don’t know what is and isn’t pet friendly. If your dog is perfect in lowes it’s likely they’ll behave the same in Walmart. Have confidence in yourself and your dog.
