Helpful advice to protect pets during the cold weather.

Does your pet’s fur protect them from the cold? ❄️

In most cases, yes! But in really wet and cold weather, if your pet isn't able to keep active or get themselves somewhere warm, their fur coat may not be enough. Like us humans, our pets, though thankfully rarely, can develop a dangerous and potentially deadly condition called hypothermia.

Any pet can become seriously ill if the temperature of their body drops too low, and acting quickly and doing the right thing could save your pet’s life.

Here are some key symptoms to look out for during the winter months! And if you suspect your pet may have hypothermia, it’s important to call your vet straight away and follow their advice ⚠️

[Visual description: Infographic about hypothermia in pets. Signs and symptoms include; shivering, drowsiness, confusion, clumsiness, pale gums and loss of consciousness/collapse. What you should do; 1. Call your vet straight away and follow their advice. 2. Get your pet out of the cold. Take them somewhere warm (not hot) and sheltered. 3. If your pet is awake, try to get them to drink some lukewarm (not hot) water. 4. If your pet is wet, use towels to dry them by rubbing them over. Change the towels when they become damp. 5. Be careful not to heat your pet up too quickly, this can be dangerous. Use blankets and towels under and over them to keep them warm. Using hot water bottles and heat pads will heat them too quickly and may cause burns.]

Meet Buddy, our first four-legged customer. He’s a rescue French bulldog who had a lovely week being cared for by Sue.

“We couldn’t be more pleased with the care Buddy received with his time staying with Sue. He was so clearly well looked after and doted on. It makes you feel a million times better leaving your pet with someone like that!
“Buddy is a rescue and has his quirks as a result and it was here that Sue really showed her experience and capability with dogs. He settled in so well with a kind and knowledgeable carer.
“Not sure Buddy wanted to leave his new best friend! We would definitely recommend Sue.”

🐶 Village Fete & Dog Show - 21 July 2024 🐶

Enjoy some old-fashioned fun at our Village Fete with traditional skill games including Hook-a-Duck, Hoopla and Coconut Shy.

Don’t miss a classic experience in our Vintage Arcade using real old pennies to work coin-operated novelties dating from the 1920s. Family friendly activities will be taking place throughout the day.

Bring your furry friend along to enter our Dog Show (12pm - 2pm) supported by Dog Friendly Destinations. There’s no entry fee for your dog...it’s just a bit of fun to find out who has the waggiest tail, who can do the best trick or looks most like their owner. Prizes will be awarded and all entrants will receive a small treat!

As our furry friends take centre stage for this event, it’s no surprise this is a dog-friendly event so please feel free to bring them along!
