On this solemn day, we honor and remember the lives lost in the July 4th river floods across Texas. To every family grieving a loved one, please know our hearts are with you—wrapped in deep compassion, unwavering prayers, and love.
To the brave survivors, we stand beside you as you navigate the long journey of healing. To the tireless rescue workers, volunteers, and extraordinary canines, your courage and commitment have brought hope where it was needed most.
We also remember the many cherished animals who were part of these homes and communities. Their loss is felt deeply.
The green ribbon we wear today is more than a symbol—it’s a quiet light, representing remembrance, resilience, and unity.

It’s that time of year again! The Mighty Texas Dog walk is just around the corner and we are hoping you will join our team! We would LOVE to win largest team this year. No donation necessary (appreciated to help more shelter dogs find homes as certified service animals but not necessary.)
The event is a one day event November 16th that’s a lot of fun. Not only are there tons of dogs, an at your pace walk around the track at camp Mabry and event swag, there is also a host of Vendors with pet related freebies (and some for purchase), a medal for each pet that crosses the finish line, and contests for those brave enough to participate; we have our eye on biggest team this year. So, follow the link below, join our team (Patricia Morrison & Tracy Smith) and help us accomplish our goal while helping a wonderful charitable organization. Team members can walk or donate. There is an entry fee for the walk but we always have a good time. This year’s theme is Pawjama Party so wear your Jammie’s if you dare.

Happy eclipse day everyone.
Astrological events play a role in animal behavior. Scientists who studied events during totality in 2017 report today’s event can be accompanied by strange sounds, decreases in wind and temperature, as well as changes in atmospheric pressures.
Although there isn’t a ton of research on the effects of an eclipse on animals, there are studies that indicate animals can briefly become confused or disoriented during the eclipse, especially at the time of totality. Those who are prone to anxiety, whether general or in response to storms or fireworks, may experience the most noticeable effects.
While it is not thought that this event represents any dangers for our pets. Pet parents should use their best judgment when it comes to the safety of their pets.
Some advised safety actions to consider include:
* keeping pets indoors where they feel safe and comfortable.
* do not force your pet to participate in eclipse activities, parties or to look at the eclipse.
* if your pet seeks attention during the eclipse, be attentive, reassuring and comforting.
* if you plan to take your pet to an eclipse watching event, make sure they are microchipped and the information is up to date, keep them on a leash, pay attention to their cues and react accordingly.
* keep solar viewing glasses out of reach of your pet. Do not use the glasses if they appear chewed, bent or scratched.

Note: some animals may pant, pace, hide or howl. Should this occur, offer reassurance and allow them access to a place of comfort and security. Be patient. This should pass as the eclipse concludes. Don’t be surprised if some pets start their evening rituals early.

Again, there are too few studies to predict the effects of an eclipse on animals so we must all use our best judgement when it comes to keeping ourselves and our pets safe and confortable.

Such a beautiful place and a beautiful way to think. It may impossible to replicate the beauty of the islands on the mainland but it would go a long way if we put effort into replicating the mind set.
