What an incredible day today! Valiente and I were the first ride of the morning at the clinic and then I got to watch her teach 7 more lessons. Everyone had super rides!

Valiente and I got some new exercises for our flying changes and also worked on getting him slower, more engaged and more through.

Busy Saturday! Had a good ride early this morning, bathed, then clipped Valiente. It was amazing how much hair came off him since I had just clipped 4 weeks ago.

Today Valiente and I participated in a virtual dressage show for the first time. I am so pleased to have him back ‘competing’ at Third Level after his injury in May and eye issues that began in June.

We submitted video of third level test 3. The flying changes were not perfect, but the same as they were when we competed at the beginning of May.

Every ride on this horse is a gift. I’ll update with our video and results when they’re available! I just picked up this burgundy helmet during safety awareness week - matches my coat pretty well!

After a cold shower, getting his legs iced and physical therapy, he was rewarded with some grazing time.

Happy 4 year anniversary Valiente! To celebrate we had an amazing ride and got our high point ribbon from the show over the weekend!

What a hot, but enjoyable day! I wasn’t sure how Valiente would handle a show with his vision issues- but he loved being out there doing his thing! When we got to the show he was leading me around checking everything out and visiting with people whose voices he recognized.

I did a very limited warmup due to the 100 degree weather, and just had faith in our training that the tests would go well. Valiente rocked it out there!

He scored 71% in Second Level Test 1 and 69.76% at Second Level Test 3!

Now that I know he can handle a show environment - and more importantly that he wants to compete - it’s time for me to try and initiate a rule change with USEF to allow UV goggles. They allow noise canceling ear bonnets and nose nets for head shakers… so I hope we can get them to allow UV goggles for horses that need eye protection.

Valiente’s new 100% UV blocking goggles arrived today! He had no concerns about them and was a good boy for our ride.

I have a slew of 90-99% UV fly masks on their way… hoping at least one style will work for him. I had to send back the ones I got from Amazon that the website claimed were 90%, but the product tag said only 70%.
