Meet Betty Spaghetti. She has a bum left leg that is completely shattered. It’s too bad too save unfortunately, broken in 3 spots. When she’s old enough for surgery it will be amputated. No one knows how this sweet girl ended up like this but one things for sure, I’m so grateful that she found her way to us.
For now, this sweet girl is all snuggled up at her parent Foster’s home. She doesn’t let that leg of hers keep her down! She is the purriest kitten and loves to play.

Did you know a single cat can produce up to FOUR litters of kittens each year? 🐱 By just four months old, each of those kittens can also start reproducing. In just two years, one cat can lead to nearly a hundred more!

In the middle of kitten season, while we share all these adorable floof pictures, we want to take a moment to remind everyone of the importance of spaying and neutering. There are so many kittens we can’t help, and the suffering for them and their mothers is endless.

Please remember to spay and neuter. It only takes ONE cat to undo years of effort.

Roxi Ma went into labor this morning and welcomed one sweet floof. Sadly, her second baby is stuck, and she’s now headed to VSS for urgent help. Please send all your positive vibes for her!

Today, two of our furry friends made a trip to the vet. Our dear mama cat, Roxi Mae, has been bravely battling a severe upper respiratory infection. She's now on her second round of antibiotics, and we're hopeful that she'll find some relief despite limited treatment options due to her delicate condition.

Meanwhile, little Smokey has faced challenges since arriving at Smelly Cat Rescue. As a neonatal orphan, he was welcomed by his surrogate momma, Clementine, alongside her small litter. While his siblings are transitioning to solid food, Smokey's health has taken a downturn.

Please send positive vibes to our beloved floofs as they embark on the journey to recovery. And as always, consider contributing to and being a friend of Smelly Cat Rescue, enabling us to continue caring for these precious floofs.

During this busy kitten season, I’ve been caring for a special litter of solid black fluffballs—all 6-week-old darlings. Sadly, little Pepper, the smallest of the bunch, recently started experiencing weight loss and vomiting. Trusting my instincts, I took her to the vet despite signs of improvement in her eating habits. With an upcoming trip to DC, I knew it was best to err on the side of caution.

At the vet’s, we discovered Pepper had an enlarged colon, likely due to a birth defect. Despite efforts to help her with an e***a, an x-ray revealed the severity of the situation. It was an incredibly tough decision, but after much discussion and personal reflection, I made the choice to let Pepper peacefully cross the rainbow bridge.

Cuddling her close, I sang to her as she purred and drifted off. It’s moments like these that remind me of the heartache in animal rescue, but also the love and compassion that drives us forward.

Kitten season has already stretched our resources thin, and Pepper’s unexpected medical expenses have further strained our funds. If you’re able, please consider donating in Pepper’s honor to support our rescue efforts and help the next floof in need. Your generosity ensures we can continue providing care and love to vulnerable cats in our community. Thank you for being a friend to our rescue. 🌈🐾

When the café team noticed that Simon wasn’t quite himself, a vet appointment was made. We expected to learn that a new diet was in order or that something minor needed to be addressed. As the vet read off the list of issues, my heart didn’t drop until I heard 'large tumor in his abdomen.' Without getting into all the specifics, put plainly, it was a surprise that Simon was functioning at all. After much discussion and debate, we made the tough decision to say goodbye to our sweet friend. Sometimes the best way to show our love is to offer peace. As this guy crossed over the rainbow bridge, I held him tight and told him how many people loved him: the friends he made at the café, the staff that cared for him, the rescue volunteers that always offered an open lap, and all of the people that support Smelly Cat Rescue. RIP Simon. Hope you have plenty of pink balls to play with up there 🌈 Forever part of the Smelly Cat & Cat Zen Family. Cat Zen Cafe and Lounge
