Love for animals - driven by our own dogs and cats - started us on the path towards a dream of ours - owning a business. We began Products4Pets in March 2003 as a local business supplying two brands of raw dog food to customers near us in Northwest Central NJ. We searched long and hard for our initial non-raw food products - Combat toys and Gulf Island dog biscuits. We were excited when these prod
ucts started selling at the local agility and obedience shows where we set up as a vendor. Our excitement continued for a number of months in 2004 when we then decided that an online store would be a great next step. It took us a while to get the online store up and running but, in March 2005, we opened www.Products4Pets.com to the Internet public. We continue to search for products that we think will interest other dedicated pet owners as we expand and improve our store on a daily basis. We focus on finding new and novel products that can provide health and happiness to your dogs and cats. We want to hear from you if there are products that you would like to see in our store.

If you have ever had an aging dog, it's important to learn about "Sundowners Syndrome" or, as it's formally called, Canine Cognitive Dysfunction Syndrome (CCD or CDS). Know the signs and behaviors so you can work with your veterinarian to address the issues as early as possible. Products4Pets has been through CCD and there are supplements available that may help slow down the progression when started early enough. This article has a lot of great information in it to learn more.
Sundowners in dogs that are aging can be hard for their owners to deal with. Fortunately, you can help your dog slow the progression of the disease.

Helpful information if you ever need to use CPR on a canine or feline. 🐶🐱
Today is , a reminder that knowing how to save a life—especially our furry friends—can make all the difference. While having to administer CPR to your pet can be terrifying, being prepared can help you act calmly and confidently in an emergency.
Stay Calm:
1️⃣ Breathe: Take a few deep breaths to steady yourself. Focus on the feeling of the air filling your lungs.
2️⃣ Delegate: If there are bystanders, assign them tasks like finding the nearest emergency vet.
3️⃣ Focus: Keep your mind clear. Concentrate on the steps ahead and stay in the moment.
When to Start CPR:
🐾 Your pet isn’t responding
🐾 Your pet isn’t breathing
🐾 You can’t feel a heartbeat or pulse
How to Perform CPR:
Compressions:
❤️ Position your pet on their side.
❤️ Deliver 120 compressions per minute (2 per second).
❤️ For every 30 compressions, give 2 breaths.
Breaths:
❤️ Close your pet’s mouth and seal it with your fingers.
❤️ Cover their nose with your mouth and give 2 breaths—enough to make their chest rise.
❤️ Check for a heartbeat after 2 minutes. If there’s no pulse, continue.
When to Stop CPR:
🐾 Your pet starts breathing and responding
🐾 You reach the vet clinic and they take over
🐾 You can’t continue physically
🐾 Your pet starts breathing but is still unconscious
Recovery Position:
Place your pet’s head to the side, slightly tilting down (unless there’s head trauma).
Compression Techniques:
🐶 Medium to Large Dogs: Compress one third of the chest depth.
🐱 Small Dogs/Cats: Use your thumb and fingers for compression, or compress directly over the heart.
Stay prepared and know that you can make a difference in your pet's life! ❤️

A Happy and Safe Fourth of July to You and Your Pets!
Dogs and fireworks can be a rough combination. Most dogs don’t love fireworks, though they are more than happy to stick around if there is barbeque. Some dogs, however, are utterly terrified of the sounds, sights, and smells of the Fourth of July – and these poor pups can be reduced to a trembling mess during fireworks season. They might howl, pace frantically, or even try to escape in the hopes of finding a safer place. And sometimes they do escape: the number of strays always goes up during the July 4th weekend. This is a great time to remember the importance of permanent identification for your pet!
On the flip side, and less often discussed, there are also a few overly, uh, patriotic dogs that may try to investigate or even chase after a neighborhood fireworks display as it goes off. These are definitely not the kind of chew toys you want your dog getting a hold of.
Regardless of how your dogs feel about fireworks, it’s best to keep them inside and away from the festivities, or at the very least, on leash and secure the entire time.
Here are several precautions you can take through the night to help them during the fireworks display:
- Set up a quiet, comfortable area where your dog can retreat. Include their favorite bed, toys, and some treats.
- Consider using anxiety wraps, calming collars, or pheromone diffusers designed to help soothe dogs.
- Tire your dog out with a long walk or play session earlier in the day, so they're more likely to be relaxed and sleepy.
- Your dog can pick up on your emotions, so stay calm and act normally to help them feel more at ease.
- Lastly, if your dog's anxiety is severe, consult your vet. They may recommend medication or other treatments to help manage their stress.
If you do have plans to go out on the town remember these tips to keep your dog safe:
- Make sure your dog is on a leash and has proper identification.
- Bring their favorite toys, blanket, or bed to create a familiar and comforting space.
- Grab some ear protection designed for dogs that can help muffle the sound of fireworks
- Bring plenty of water for you and your dog.
- If your dog starts showing signs of serious distress and there isn’t a safe, secure place available for them to stay in, consider leaving early. It’ll be better for your dog, the people around you, and ultimately you (you weren’t going to be able to enjoy it, anyway).
We know this is a lot of "do this" and "don't do that" to take in, but we promise it's not because we're just a bunch of wet blankets who don't want people to enjoy their holiday. It's actually the opposite: we offer advice because we want people and their pets to have a fun and safe Independence Day!
