Why do we believe our puppy class is different?
Because we don't think it's "easy" or "boring" 🙅🏼♀️
If it is - then you're doing it wrong!
Sure teach basic obedience, how to sit and down etc....
But we want to set you and your puppy up for life 🙋🏼♀️🤩
We'll teach you
✨ How to form a super strong relationship with your dog
✨ How to engage them in ways they enjoy
✨ How to make training your dog something you look forward to, not dread
✨ How to get the behaviours you want with simple and easy to follow steps
Sound good?

I set out on this walk to film some impressive recalls - but I failed 😱 because I didn't need to use my recall cue.
This is huge for Travis. He used to spot a human and bolt at full speed towards them and jump all over them. He LOVES human attention and this behaviour was super self reinforcing for him.
So how did I tackle it?
💡 By changing his response to seeing humans from see human = run and jump on them to see humans = run to Mum and get treats/toys/ a cuddle.
I know there is music over the top of this but I will add it to our stories so you can see that there was no verbal cue used here at all - Travis spotted the humans ahead and made the choice to return to me. What a good boy ✨
I know how hard it is when your dog is a social butterfly and wants to say hello to everyone they meet. Would you like your dog to have this skill? Send us a message 📩
Just because we chose to specialise in herders doesn't mean that's all we work with, or can work with ✨We chose to specialise in herders because we see so many herders incorrectly labelled and trained in a way that actually magnifies and further reinforces their problem behaviour 😳One of the most common misunderstandings, is quite simply their body language 💁♀️The tucked tail, tense body and dipped head. . .Yes, in a cockapoo this could signal anxiety and fear: but in a herder this is the standard body language present when working and thinking. Tail down often means the brain is engaged ☠️Specialising in herders gives us the ability to study them, their reinforcers and how that magnificent brain works absolutely guilt free. We can honestly say, we struggled to do that when we where also trying to serve our best self to all breeds of dogs. Admitting where our heart lies, and working cases we enjoy brings me an unmeasured amount of peace and clarity ☮️ We will forever grateful to work with such a range of dogs, and get so much joy working with all breeds of dogs, and the refreshing differences that brings 👯However, we know where our skillset ends and constantly work alongside other trainers that also specialise to ensure all clients that come through our doors get the best service 👌However, the permission to unselfishly focus on what makes our heart beat faster will continue to be the path we skip down 🥲#dogtrickstraining #bordercollie #herdingdogs #workingdogs #dogtraining #glasgowdogtrainer #dogtrainingtips #dreamjob #ilovemyjob #k9training #dogtrainerslife
Scent work class smashing it again this week 👏🏻
We are seeing such beautiful progress from each of the dogs which is super exciting. They all have different strengths and preferences and we love making sure they all get the most out of it.

Stalking-herding-crawling....
Call it what you like but this is a common behaviour in herding breeds who are stimulated by movement.
Other dogs (and people) can find it intimidating, it can be dangerous by roadside and it's most likely kinda annoying for you as the human on the other end of the lead.
So what can you do about it?
There's a lot more to challenging and changing this behaviour but one of my favourite ways to manage it is to interrupt it with a "let's go" cue. And it's super easy to do...
1️⃣ Have your dogs favourite toy or high value treats ready in a pocket or training pouch. I prefer a toy for this
2️⃣ Walk in a straight line for a few paces then cue "let's go" and about turn quickly - as your dog follows you, chuck the toy in the new direction you are going or scatter the treats you have.
3️⃣ Repeat, repeat, repeat. As you repeat this more, your dog will hear "let's go" and automatically turn backto you

Life with a reactive dog can seem like it never gets any better. But it does, things change and grown!
These days, I don’t class Oscar as ‘reactive’ but more so a trouble maker 😅
If I don’t give him what he needs, he’s going to find it elsewhere.
He seeks movement, control and, at times , confrontation.
He was bred for a purpose, and I chose to bring him to the city. It’s my job to provide what he needs, and I do this in a number of ways.
After this non incident, we played sheepball. My goal was to work on his stand and stalk, which we did but I heavily rewarded with movement and the opportunity to control parts of the game and make his own choices.
If you need help with your herder, get in touch!

FOCUS ON YOU
It's so easy to get caught up in the dog world on social media and feel pressure to have your dogs behave a certain way or to have all the adventures everyone else seems to be having.
If I ever get stuck on those thoughts I always bring it back to focusing on me and my dogs alone.
Your journey is never going to be the same as someone else's, even if you have similar struggles. Dogs are individuals just as much as we are. There is no perfect dog.
If you're doing your best, most of the time, then you have nothing to worry about.
Arguing with people on the internet rarely ends well. If I see something I don't like, I just scroll on by. Protecting your mental energy is much more important than arguing with people who are never going to even attempt to see your side of the debate.
I get it if you feel stuck and lost with your dog's behaviour some times - I've been there. But don't let comparison make you feel even worse. If I can help you - drop me a message.
