Introducing the face behind the business!

Dr Susan Salter BSc Hons BVM&S MRCVS

Susan grew up on a farm in Co Laois. She has now set up her practice on the Kildare - Wicklow border after a number of years away.

After graduating from the Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies, Susan travelled to Qatar where she spent time working with equine reproductive specialists at Al Shaqab’s breeding facility in Doha. She then spent a year in Australia working in mixed practice. Once Susan returned home, she went on to complete an equine internship at O’Byrne and Halley’s, where she further developed her interest in breed work.

Following her internship, she completed a breeding season in the UK with world renowned stud medicine specialist - John Newcombe. Susan then spent a number of years doing back-to-back breeding seasons, between the UK and Australia. During this time she specialised in both thoroughbred stud medicine and sport horse artificial breeding while working with some of Australia’s and the UK’s largest breeding facilities eg Woodside Park and Alabar Farm.

Susan has been lucky enough to work closely with a number of reproductive specialists such as Chelsea Burden, Angus McKinnon, James Crabtree, Simon Robinson and John Newcombe. This sparked Susan’s wish to continue developing her knowledge and she is presently completing further specialised studies.

Susan’s main areas of interest revolve around the subfertile / difficult to breed mare and she regularly writes articles for veterinary journals and the Irish field.

When Susan isn’t working or developing her research she enjoys hunting, track riding and hacking out. She also loves coastal trips and attempting to surf!

If you would like to find out more about the work Susan does, or how she can help you and your horse(s) then please send this page a direct message.
