Kiki came into our lives as a shelter rescue. Originally purchased through a Persian cat breeder, her owner—who had been looking for a docile lap cat—deemed Kiki "too type-A" and surrendered her to the Ferndale Cat Shelter. For a time, she bounced between foster homes and placements where she "just didn't fit in." And then, scrolling through Facebook, I saw her sassy little gray face on an adoptio
n post and knew I had found my soulmate kitty. Kiki lives with me (Human #1) and my housemate, Scott (Human #2—a reluctant cat guy, but Kiki won him over). In her initial few months with us, she:
-Smashed three ceramic lamps
-Cracked two lampshades
-Received a gift of her very own HomeGoods lampshade from her humans, which she happily uses as a toy and a bed
-Got trapped inside a refrigerator, sofa bed, box spring, and utility closet
-Acquired a taste for fresh sushi
-Learned that she loves to snuggle against warm bodies and under blankies
The little Keeka-monster continues to surprise us, make us laugh, drive us a little bit mad, and love us to bits. We're glad you decided to join us on Kiki's journey. :)
**Note: As Kiki's story shows, buying a purebred pet does NOT guarantee a certain kind of behavior, personality, or skillset. We do not support the breeding or purchasing of cats, dogs, or other pets. In virtually every city, you'll find a hard-working, loving team of people working to rescue and rehome stray and abandoned animals—please, please support these groups. **
