Terry and Gerald, the sweetest lils in the land.
Meet Charlie. My friend Jill lives in South Philly and started seeing this boy hanging around. He was super friendly and had an old, worn flea collar on. She fed him for a few days and posted on local FB pages trying to find his owner. No one reached out and she fell in love with him. She has a very demanding (and sometimes aggressive) cat, so bringing him home wasn't an option. She's going on vacation and didn't want to leave without finding a safe place for him. Although I really don't have room, I wanted to help my friend, so I caved and said I'd take him. I was able to get flea meds and a dewormer for him (thank you ) but he's still looking for a rescue. I will foster him, so if you are a rescue and can help me get him vetted please LMK.
Beaky and baby!
Senior kitties often have different health issues to deal with than adults. Lucy has early stage kidney disease and hyperthyroidism. I manage her issues with a kidney diet and meds for her thyroid. Although behaviorally Lucy can be challenging, she eats her diet and takes her meds like a champ. She also never has issues with the box, although the kidney disease makes her p*e frequently. I'm grateful for which always ensures her box is clean. All in all, she is doing well at 14 and considering the difficult life she had before I foster failed her. I'm proud of how far she's come and am so happy to continue loving her through her senior years ❤️ She's my goose 🪿
When you have a fat cat who knows where the kitten food is😅
I currently feed the kittens in a playpen to make sure they're the only ones eating high calorie food. It's the best system I've found for feeding little ones at the same time as the adults.
My angel babies Gerald and Terry are doing so great! They are integrated with my cats and are learning a lot from them. Terry was scared of a wand toy and then saw Beaker playing with it and joined in on the fun. Gerald saw how the cats meow and rub against me at mealtime so he started doing it too. Just so rewarding to watch them grow and learn how to cat. Whoever ends up adopting these boys is getting two precious friends for life!
How to introduce cats is the most question people ask me about. While there are many fantastic resources on cat introduction, the most important part, redirection, often doesn't get enough attention. Once the staring starts, redirection must happen or there will be a negative result. If you've gotten to the point of feeding cats on opposites sides and don't know what's next, this article is for you....

Happy Friday. Terry, Gerald and I hope you have a great day a fabulous weekend ❤️

Da babies
Meet Gerald and Terry! Their mom was hit by a car and they were wrestling on the side of the road💔 They need a little socialization (they're a bit shy and skittish) but are overall fantastic, seemingly healthy kittens. They're 2 months old and will be neutered in early Sept. Then they'll be adoptable. I'm fostering them through .
We've finally moved! The cats are settling in really well and I'm getting used to a new routine. Now that everything is put away, I'm ready to start fostering again. I think I'm due for some kittens ... Stay tuned ❤️
Me with my first best cat friend, Puffer. He didn't live to be very old but we had a special bond. I tried to recreate it ... Every time a kitten was born that looked like him, I named them another rendition...Puffy, Puff, etc. Silly, I know, but in my child mind I really thought I could recreate our relationship. He was a special boy❤️ His mom Paris was something else tho ...
My grandparents lived in the woods and kept outdoor cats for rodent control. It was a very different time, and with their farming background, they didn't spay or neuter or take the cats to the vet. It was survival of the fittest to the extreme. Many would get sick and pass from what I now know was a secondary infection from a kitty cold. I learned a lot about losing animals at a young age. The colony had a clear hierarchy, with Mama Snooper at the very top. She was black and white and had 2 kittens that lived to be the main mamas of the crew, Pickles and Cameo. They were good moms. Cameo almost always had 4-5 kittens....every litter. Pickles always had smaller litters, 2-3. Snooper's sister was Violet, a long haired black and white who passed when I was little. One of Violet's kittens, Paris, lived to be full grown. Cameo and Pickle's cousin was not like them ... She was literally the worst mother ever. She had her kittens in a small encloser by the food bowls every time (very public and not the best place for "hiding your kittens"). After a few weeks, she would often grow tired of caring for them and just stop and her cousins (Cameo and Pickles) would take over, or she would move the kittens, but we'd never see them again and she'd never leave so I knew she wasn't caring for them. I don't know how common abandonment is, but it was definitely her thing. If her kittens lived to adulthood, it was usually not because of her. It's true that not all animals (or humans) are good mothers, and Paris was definitely not maternal. We all know the importance these days of spaying to control the population, and I think "moms" like Paris are just another good reason to spay.
Anyone else sing songs rhyming their pet's name? With Beaky, I tell him "Your name is Beaky, because you're a squeaky." Very original, I know😂
Rusty has been doing really, really well. His coat is growing in nicely and he's keeping it well groomed which is a great sign that he feels good. Lack of grooming is a big sign that something is wrong, so don't ignore it if you notice it, even in older cats.
Things at Boot Camp have been a bit off balance. I'm supposed to move but settlement keeps getting pushed. I've been packed for over a month☹️ I'm not taking any new fosters until I move, and it's been so difficult to see the many that need help and not be able to do anything. It's been incredible to watch everyone in the rescue community doing what they can to survive this kitten season, and I hope to do my part again soon❤️
Sunshine in a box ... Literally
Dolly's facial expressions kill me😂
Amazing news! A new color for cats has been discovered. Great article and easy to read. Check it out!
The salty liquorice cat has an unusual coat, but the usual suspect is not behind this phenomenon. Now scientists know what is.
Rusty is doing soooooooo good. He's playing, has zoomies, and is grooming himself. His skin and fur look better than ever. He's currently dealing with some diarrhea which we need to address but it's also not bad enough to cause him any distress. I'm just so amazed at the difference the liver protectant has made in his qualify of life. Thank you and for never giving up❤️
This sweet senior is a gentle giant. He's declawed and needs daily medication that is easily manageable. If you're interested in adding Rusty to your family, please reach out to

Today did not turn out the way I ever expected. Barb didn't eat the past two days. An exam showed she had extreme stomatitis. The swelling was so bad it was going down her throat. She was suffering. Treatment would involve pain meds and a steroid until she could get a full-mouth extraction but Barb isn't handleable, so there would be no way for me to give her medication until she could get surgery. Her trapper and I made the difficult decision to euthanize her. We are both glad she wasn't suffering outside but this is still not an outcome we expected or wanted. Even though she really didn't like me, I did love her, and I think sometimes she forgot she hated me as she licked treats off my fingers 😂. She gave me one last good growl before she went to sleep and I wouldn't have wanted any other response from her. Fly free my Little Lady.🌈
Rusty was very under the weather yesterday with an upset tummy, but he's having a good day so far today. We're giving him a break from one of the antibiotics for a few days. He's just so cute ... I wanna smush his face but he would hate it😂
What do you think of Rusty's mohawk? I think he's handsome as ever. A lack of grooming resulted in a shave but I think this new do suits him😂
Since pulling this senior boy from the shelter two years ago, he's had a number of senior cat problems, including hyperthyroidism and numerous pancreatitis flares. His liver values have been elevated for a while. They're improving, but still not normal. He also stopped grooming the past few months which usually indicates some sort of health issue. Two ultrasounds showed nothing overly concerning, and a round of steroids unfortunately made his values worse. He's currently on two antibiotics, liver support supplement, and probiotics. His weight is finally stable👍🏻 Through all of this, he enjoys his days looking out the window 🌞, napping on his favorite chair, and getting treats. I know we're doing everything we can for him, and I'm so glad for being so diligent with helping him. I've seen posts from many others on the medical challenges with seniors, so I know we're not alone. I never expected to have him this long, but I'm happy he's here, getting the care he needs, and getting love 💓 Thanks to all who seem to love him as much as I do, especially the CSRs at and every one on here who always comments and likes his pics. You all rock.

Brody isn't well, but we don't know what's wrong with him. I gave him more fluids and meds today but he's barely eating. We are back at the vet tomorrow and I hope we can get some answers or at least put together a plan to get them. Fostering is so heartbreaking sometimes.💔
Wonderful day at a client's house doing a little clicker training❤️
HELP NEEDED. Please help my foster cat Brody by donating to Stray Cat Relief Fund for his vet bill. He stopped eating and is very dehydrated so we are at Art City Vets & Urgent Care now. Brody was a street cat for years, and when finally trapped, he had major digestive issues 💩 He's been on tons of meds and steroids to help, but they unfortunately also lower the immune system. He's a super sweet gentle boy❤️
HELP NEEDED: my foster Brody is at for not eating and dehydration. This poor boy has been through so much medically. Please consider donating to his vet bill to help us make sure he gets the care he needs. Thank you❤️
Brody doesn't feel so good and will likely be heading to the vet in the morning☹️ Positive vibes please

Barb Training: Last week we worked on getting her to take steps toward me and get closer to me. I know this doesn't look like much but it's huge for her. She's been pressed against the wall in a tight ball for a few weeks. The day after this video, she moved from hiding behind the recliner to laying onto the recliner. Soooooo proud of her. We have a loooooooong road to go and I still don't know what she went through to make her this fearful.
Today we worked on Barb standing up confidently and taking steps. Yes, mild setback near the end of the video but I wanted you to see it bc that's part of the process. It's important to remember that and not get discouraged. Patience and persistence are the keys to changing behavior (for humans and animals). What do you think Ginny Hahn ?
Training Barb: This terrified tripod needs a lot of work. Ginny Hahn saved her from life on the streets, but she's not quite adoptable yet. I videoed a training session and my followers on IG enjoyed it so I wanted to share it here! The idea is not to reinforce the fear, so she only gets a treat when she's calm and quiet. I started with clicker training her to accept pets, but now am just using the word "pets" when I pet her. As the training continues, I increase the number of pets. When you are training, you always want to reward the positive, not punish the negative. I'm not punishing her for growling, but I am rewarding her for being calm and accepting pets. Spitting is a form of defensive aggression and she doesn't swat or try to bite, so I know I'm safe in these situations, which is why I'm okay allowing her to lick my hand. She doesn't want to engage, she wants me to go away. (Do not put your hand in a cat's face if you aren't sure of your safety. I've been working with Barb for weeks so there is experience behind all of this.) Barb doesn't have a rescue yet. She has already been vetted but I know a rescue will likely want to vet her again themselves, and she's just not handlable right now. A vet visit would also set her back. Once she's a little more accepting of contact, I hope to find a rescue to help her find a home.
Welcome Meep to Boot Camp. Formerly Road Runner, this shy 4 month old is from ACCT Philly and her owner surrendered her bc she couldn't care for her anymore. She's a bit skittish so we're going to work on her confidence and get her adoptable! So far she's super sweet.
🌈Tonight, I said good-bye to Binti, a big shock I didn't see coming. These were some of our last moments together. Binti was bright and alert this morning, but when I went to feed her dinner, something was wrong. She was just laying in the corner, pupils dilated, and had peed on the floor. She tried to walk but wasn't steady on her feet and was showing signs of fear/discomfort/confusion (I wasn't sure which). The vet at the ER said it sounded like she's had a seizure, but we had to find out why. We'd start with bloodwork. Binti had two recent blood tests and the lab couldn't process the blood. We found out why when we got these results back instantly - her red and white blood cells were HIGHLY elevated, causing her blood to be thick and viscous. This condition is called polycythemia. It's rare, but it can happen on its own or secondarily from something like cancer. To treat her would have been a very long and complicated process, which would not have resolved any underlying issues. To bring her home overnight would have risked her having a grand mal seizure (a seizure that never ends), which is not a kind end to her life. Thanks to the vets and techs at Blue Pearl Conshohocken, she passed peacefully in my arms. Binti had been returned to the shelter 4x and was timestamped for euthanasia. I met her at ACCT Philly and loved her. With no rescue interest, I asked Whiskers of Love Cat Rescue & Sanctuary if they would help me save her, and they did. She turned out to be super sweet, loving, and affectionate. I was determined to find her last forever home ... Little did I know it was going to be mine. Sorry to share this news, Angela Seward Kaity Lacy
My and Binti's convos are deep ... I tell her she looks like a hyena from The Lion King and she purrs extremely loud. It's a good relationship and it works for us. She's being fostered through Whiskers of Love Cat Rescue & Sanctuary , and although she's not listed for adoption yet, I expect she will be soon ❤️
Oh Chuckie ... This poor boy. Fri his eating was off, then Sat it picked up, but yesterday I noticed his gums were jaundice. Art City Vets & Urgent Care saw him today. He had a fever and elevated bilirubin, but not much else that was concerning (one other liver value was slightly higher than normal). Since he is eating on his own, they gave him fluids and an antinausea injection and sent him home. He's on antibiotics, a liver supplement, and appetite stimulant. I'm also watching him like a hawk bc if he declines at all he'll likely need to be admitted to the hospital. He ate a big dinner and took his antibiotics like a champ and groomed after💪 He's being fostered through Stray Cat Relief Fund❤️
I got to visit Jasmine today. She perked up when she saw me, ate for me, was walking around her incubator, and even pooped a little! Here's a breakdown: 1. Dexatrose (blood sugar supplement) is down to 1.25% (started at 5). She'll need to be off it completely and maintaining her blood sugar before she comes home. 2. They've been able to turn down the heat in the incubator because she's doing better at controlling her body temp. 3. She was constipated AGAIN so she got another enema and they got two big poops out. Gross but good. 4. She's needed her bladder expressed, which they believe is related to the constipation. They said it is common for constipated kittens to need this too. 5. She is eating, which is the key to this whole thing! We do not know when she'll be discharged, but she may have to be transferred to another hospital tomorrow evening. Her hospital bill continues to grow. Please consider donating directly Fishtails Animal Rescue or to my GoFundMe to help: https://gofund.me/1debb0b8
In honor of May, meet Jasmine and Sugar Rose, two 6-week singletons put together for socialization from ACCT Philly . Both have colds that are presenting in their eyes and will be on a lot of meds over the next week (Sugar Rose has 5 and will still probably lose her left eye). I'm still extremely sad and miss May, but the shelter is full and this felt like the right thing to do.
Update: Vet bill was covered by everyone's donations. Thank you ❤️ Rest in Peace May. After having issues eating and becoming severely constipated, the vet put together a plan for May. I was following it, but tonight she became very lethargic so I took her to the ER. Sadly, her blood sugar and body temp were low, so I decided to help her pass peacefully. I'm devastated, but I do know it was the right decision. It's hard to not know what was wrong, but I assume something congenital because she came to me very underweight already. Run free sweet girl.
Binti Update: Look at her playing AND listen to her purring while doing it 🥺 (previous owners said she didn't play🤔). I noticed today that her shave kinda makes her look like a hyena 🤣 She's started her skin supplement (Redonyl, and I swear by it for skin issues), and so far I think he skin looks great. Her belly is a little pink here but I think that's from being curled up and sleeping. I have yet to see any biting or scratching like previous owners stated. She seems to absolutely love attention. Special thank you again to Whiskers of Love Cat Rescue & Sanctuary for helping me save this girl, and to Kaity Lacy and Angela Seward for promoting her😍
Colby Jack hated me when I got him...now listen to those purrs! He's available for adoption through Whiskers of Love Cat Rescue & Sanctuary
Binti Update: Binti's first full day without anxiety meds went great! There is nothing wrong with giving anxious cats meds, but I had a feeling she might not need them now that she's out of the shelter. If she continues to do well, I'll keep her off of them. I ordered Redonyl, a supplement for her skin, which should be here soon. She's been a little pink, but not red, which is good, but I'd still like to see her skin be a normal pale color. She's also settling into our meal routine and meows when I come in to feed her. I like scheduled meal times bc it helps build a bond with the cat...they learn you're feeding them and there is a positive association. So glad this girl is safe and sound and thank you to Whiskers of Love Cat Rescue & Sanctuary for helping me with her.
Pulled from death row on her 4th shelter stay. Clearly she is not grateful😂 Welcome to Boot Camp Binti. Thank you to Whiskers of Love Cat Rescue & Sanctuary for partnering with me to save her. The shelter staff at ACCT Philly was so excited I was saving her.
Binti is at her 4th stay at ACCT Philly . She has a history of aggression and now skin issues (suspected allergies and over grooming). She is timestamped for euthanasia on Sat. Because of her skin issues, she needs a rescue to take her. My heart literally breaks for this poor girl, and even more since I met her and she seemed sweet. I hope a rescue saves this girl. She's lived a life of being unwanted and it's so sad.
