Well fair is officially over and boy did we have some major accomplishments! Opal far exceeded every single expectation I had for her this week. She trailered, she bathed, she stalled quietly, she allowed many people to interact and pet her, she showed and played on 2 trail courses and attempted every obstacle ! To say I am Proud of her would be an understatement. She is turning into one of the coolest horses, and I can't wait to see her continue to grow. We now are past the 90 day mark and are headed into the final stretch to get ready for the competition labour day weekend. I'm happy to reaffirm that Opal will be comming back home with me following the competition. Here are a few photos of my gorgeous girl this week 💗 videos to come 💖

Fair 2024 had begun! We started off with a pretty awesome move in day, and it just keeps going good! We did have a little truck malfunction which was an adventure to be sure I ended up having Opal alone in my two horse trailer as this was only her 3rd time being hauled. We'll my trailer brakes drained my battery and my truck died 5 mins from home, in the grocery store parking lot. Luckily Opal was a super star, unloaded in very busy parking lot and reloaded into a brand new trailer like a champ! She has since spent her first night at fair, had a bath in a new place with a bunch of new horses and stuff going on around her and had her very first show class! She was in 1 of the largest classes of the day and still placed! She took 6th out of 12 horses so not bad at all! She entered, trotted, set for inspection and stood like a rock! Even when a horse next to her had a major blow up! The for fun we went and watched the carnival rides and listened to a little clay walker to end our forat day of lane county fair 🥰 good girl Opal. Tons of photos to come !!

We had a little bit of a fire 🔥 scare at our facility in Eugene. (Everyone is safe!) But we decided since Opal had not been trailered since pick up (although has been working on loading) that we would move her when we were not in a panic situation. She did take about 10 minutes to load, but hauled quietly and unloaded in a new place like an absolute champ 🏆!
So she got to come home for the first time and meet the rest of her new herd 🐎💕
She will be headed back to the barn soon but will get to enjoy a nice little vacation before heading to Fair next week 😀

We have been busy ! 😅 I know I have been slacking off on the posts lately but I promise Opal and I have still been at it! I gave Opal some time off of riding during the heat wave, 1 because it was HOT 🔥 and 2 because she mentally needed the break. We still continued to work on desensitization and ground work. Lots of showmanship and in hand trail obstacles and her confidence in herself and in me grew tremendously. Working with Opal is 99% reading the room. Working with what she has to offer me, that could be like today 1st ride in the arena, first ride after 2 weeks off, stereo playing loud music for the first time, all the horses leaving, out of the barn and her staying in. Obviously today was fantastic 👏 but we also have days where we are just doing a small grooming session and that can be too over stimulating and she falls back on bad habits. Every day I am proud of her for giving me what she can and look forward to seeing what she gives me the next day 💕

Soooo this is the part of our story where everyone who knows me can say "I told you so" 😅
Opal will not be going through the auction and will be staying with me 😘
We will still be competing at both Lane County fair and the Teens And Oregon mustang challenge, but I have decided to slow down her timeline a bit and allow her to continue to come out of her shell at her pace.

Opal is doing so good every day! We had another good ride tonight! We are working with some sticky feet that I didn't notice as bad when she was ba****ck, so I'm looking into a different saddle that will give her shoulders more room to move. She currently walks, no rein stops, leg yields and backs under saddle. She is hesitant to move into the next gait with out bucking, so we will keep working on our yielding and turning until she is ready to move forward. Also she's loving being out in turnout with my other two horses 🐎 💕

Opal had her first ride fully tacked last night ! I'm talking saddle, boots, bridle, snaffle, the works! And she was amazing! I have a lot of video to go through but here is a cute after workout photo of her looking like a real working girl 🥰
Opal is also now proficient at picking up and having both front hooves cleaned. We also managed to pick up one hind hoof briefly 😁 her first trim is going to be schedule soon.

Opal is all domesticated now 🥰
First time wearing sport boots and bell boots (going to have to find her some extra larges because these were large and wouldn't close.) She is now inside every night, getting used to all the goings on in the stable and doing really well! She was also tacked up all the way, in the cross ties for the first time. I am very pleased with her tonight! I did mount her again but there was some external pressure I decided not to do more than that. Hoping for the first saddled ride tomorrow ! Also first time saddled with 0 bucking !!!!

Opal had her very first ride last night 🌙 😳 🙌 We kept it very short and sweet but we actually accomplished alot! We got forward movement, backing, stopping and standing for mounting and dismounting! We were also able to flex to both the left and right sides :) I'm very very very happy with Opals progress 👏

We have really seemed to have grown in our trust in the last week or so! This was my first time being able to run my hands down both front legs from a kneeling position and partially from a standing ! I was able to lean on her left and right side with my arms over her back! I was even able to put some pressure from above on the mounting block! She now takes the bit every time though does still like to chew on it. I am very pleased with the progress she is making♡ My new favorite thing I will try to get on video soon is her comming when I whistle 😍😍😍
