An Adoption Announcement!!: The best way to start the New Year.
Our handsome RENO has found his forever and wonderful family to adopt him. It was love at first meeting and we are so grateful his new family Elisa and Rich, realized what an amazing and loving dog he is.
We were so excited when Elisa asked about meeting Reno. She is a previous adopter, who adopted our Fergie in the Fall of 2013. Fergie had a wonderful full life and was loved over and above, and she was devasted when Fergie passed a few of months ago. So we knew that Reno would be so lucky to be part of Elisa's family. Reno is the only dog and will be geting so much attention. And as a bonus Elisa and Rich have dogs in their immediate family and friends' dogs who Reno has already met and played with and he loves them all.
Thank you to Reno's Amazing and Best Foster Mom, Chris, for taking such good care of him while he was waiting for his new home.
All of us in WJVA want to wish Reno and his new family many years of unconditional love and many Happy New Years together. ❤️

‼️MISSING‼️

Poo Pear is missing! Poo Bear slipped out of our isolation play yard (which thanks to a recent fundraiser by Eddie n Chooch, we are getting permanent fencing put in soon!). Poo Bear is wearing the leash he had on and was last seen running past the U-Haul down Hunting Park Ave past the school and that was the last he was seen.

Please call 267-385-3800 ext 1 with any sightings,
Please leave a voicemail if there is no answer as it means they're on the other line or text 856-409-0863 with any sightings!

1/4 Update: on Thursday afternoon Pop Bear was spotted near the post office on Front street, close to the shelter. Signs are posted in the area, and we are working with GoodBoy Dog Recovery who used their thermal drone on Friday to look in the area but did not see him. We have a feeding station with GBDR cameras monitoring it that we hope he will come to! Please note GBDR is volunteer run and does not charge for their help, you can check out their page on how to support them!

We believe this is Carmel's first experience with snow, only being about a year old now, and from NC. Snow makes dogs so playful and happy. It gives them energy.
Carmel loves running around a yard with his favorite toys. He is especially loves Wubba toys, made by Kong. He also loves the rope toys with big knots. He entertains himself shaking the toys back and forth. He is such a playful, energetic, loving and friendly dog.
Still young and learning.
Carmel is still in need of an Experienced Active Foster or Adopter.

Hi Everyone, It's me Rocco, you all remember me right? Well today was such a special day for me. My wonderful Foster Mom and Dad gave me the most special party for my Golden 15th Birthday.

Check out the photos below of the celebration. We had special food on Gold plates, a delicious birthday cake, and I got to wear a sparkling necklace to match my sparkling personality. All my foster siblings enjoyed celebrating with me.
Check out the Tee Shirts my Foster Mom and Dad have on. They had them made with my Handsome photo on them. Wow they must really love me and think I am special.

I am the Luckiest dog in the world because of WJVA, I have the best Family and Friends who I love with all my heart. My Foster Mom and Dad, Tammy and Chris, have taken such great care of me the past 2 1/2 years, and I love them so much.
I made a wish today blowing out the candles. Wishing that all the homeless dogs, find homes with families as wonderful as mine.
Happiest of Birthdays to Me!!🎂💝

Our Story

The most important part of being a foster based rescue, it having foster homes to take care of the rescued dogs once they come out of the crowded shelters. Without fosters we are so limited in how many dogs we can save. Fostering helps us take care of any medical needs fo the dog, getting to know the dog, so we can make the best match for the family adopting the dog. While in foster care the dogs will get all medical care and treatment for any illness they have. They will get exercise, socialization, good food, training and love and care. This makes them more adoptable and a better dog. We choose our foster homes almost like our adopter homes. The dog must fit well the family fostering. If the family has children, they would only foster dogs good with children and the same with other animals. We supply and pay for all food and treats and chews, also all medical care and preventatives. The only thing we ask of our foster families, is to supply Love, Security and Patience.

We are in need of more foster homes, please consider opening your home and hearts to a dog in need. The normal foster time is approx. 2 - 6 months.

Fostering saves and enriches lives. Interested in fostering please contact us via FB message or email us at [email protected]. Thank you so much.
