These little cuties are so adorable! And I am fairly certain I have at least one himi doe starting to colour up. Praying she's at least a self, because I believe the sire is a chocolate chinchilla himilayan. Not ideal, but have to start somewhere.

Silk's litter is down to 6 and these guys scatter as soon as I open the nestbox, so they'll definitely be getting some human time when they're a bit older.

Westhaven Poppet joined us a while ago, but she was quite flighty and nervous, it took some time to settle her in. She's now quite calm and even allows me to give her nose pats. She's starting to turn into a lovely young doe and I do hope she'll accept an Autumn breeding... maybe.

I finally decided to remove Blanca from her cage so I could get a look at her kits and she has 5 little white plumpies, so I'm pretty happy with that.

6 plumpies (surprise castor I wasn't expecting) and one very small skinny. Doubt very much skinny is going to make it 😔 It's survival of the fittest and strongest in my rabbitry though. As tough as that may be, it's the the strongest and fittest that also pass on the best genetics. This is the way of life.

I've decided to move on from black and focus on my other projects. I have blacks available, including a litter in the nest right now, but there will be no more in the future.

01/11/2024

I have tried for a couple of days now to get in to see Blanca's nest, but she won't let me near. So rather than stress her out, I'll leave her be. But I think there are 7.

Mated Silk and Radar again. Silk isn't a maiden and with 2 maidens also mated today, she's going to be my back-up mum if I need her.

Expected kits: blacks and black ermines.

Introducing the now 9 week old twins, Adelaide and Adelynn, the first offspring of Westhaven Silk and Azurite Radar.

These 2 are going to be the continuation of my black line which orginally started with Triskelion Blackberry. Radar is an ermine, by Blackberry's son, Rayah Asterix.

I'm quite excited about how this line turns out as the generations continue. 🥰🐰🤞

Alarm bells have rung for Enderby Island rabbits. We have contacted all breeders known to us only to find out that almost all females still alive are now too old to breed. Is there anyone out there who still has a female or females of breeding age? If yes - please make contact, Enderby Island rabbits are a New Zealand heritage breed. They survived on Sub-Antarctic Enderby Island for over 100 years. More details about them can be found on our website: https://www.rarebreeds.co.nz/enderbyrabbit.html

It's time to end the stigma around RHDV (RCD) and to normalise it. You are NOT a lepper if RCD infects your rabbitry. Do NOT feel like you have to hide its existence. There is absolutely nothing wrong with having RCD in your rabbitry and having multiple deaths because of it. And there is absolutely nothing wrong with letting people know you have it, letting The Rabbit Council of New Zealand Inc know you have it, and getting the word out that it is in your area.

END THE STIGMA OF RCD NOW!

Having RCD is okay. It is a virus we cannot hide from. We can do our best to protect our rabbits:

Vaccinate
Reduce flies
Cleanliness
Vigilance
Planning

What is NOT okay, is people making you feel like you're a lepper or there's something wrong with you, because you have it. It is something that us rabbit owners/breeders have to live with.

We NEED to support one another, especially with providing rabbits to our fellow breeders with good quality stock to assist with their recovery after their losses.

NO MORE hiding behind excuses and spreading "fake news" in regards to other unknown illnesses and viruses. THIS BU****IT STOPS NOW!

We need to support one another, we need to accept that multiple, sudden losses is more than likely RCD and nothing else. We must shut down our rabbitries (for 110 days) as soon as suspect we may have been affected by RCD. We must be prepared to refund any person who has paid a deposit toward a rabbit, including any vaccination costs regardless of the outcome. We must be prepared to wear some of those costs on the nose, because it's all part 'n' parcel of husbandry. Animals cost money, end of story.

So let's get real, people. And support and love our fellow rabbiters through the hard times and help them shine on the otherside of it.

End the stigma of RCD, New Zealand.

❤️🐰🥰

Unfortunately, I will be closing my rabbitry for the next few months or so, following RCNZ's guidelines for notifiable diseases.
Take care out there.
