Let’s talk socialisation👨‍👩‍👧‍👦🐈🐶🚗✈️

For any pup a key element of their training is socialisation, especially with the stigma attached to big dogs we need to be giving our pups the best chance at being a safe and functioning member of society.

It’s never too early to start socialising your pup, Benny is very young and has not yet completed his vaccination course (roll on Thursday) so he can’t yet walk on the floor. However we have invested in this Morpilot pet carrier so we can socialise without health threats.

Why is socialisation so important:
- reduces reactivity later on
- familiarises different sounds such as cars, aeroplanes and other animals
- increases safety of having the dog around strangers, other animals, vehicles
- reduces anxiety and fear of society later on
- builds confidence
- improves dogs physical and mental health
- allows owners to enjoy being out and about with their pets

So if you’ve got a dog that has not yet been properly socialised invest in the correct tools to keep them safe and get out and about to experience different sights, sounds and smells and ultimately improve your dog ownership experience

Let’s talk crate training🐶🐾💙

A lot of people choose to not crate train their pups because they see it as cruel when on reality crate training is a useful safety tool that can help prevent issues such as separation anxiety, destructive puppies and puppies in toilet training.

If you are in the process of crate training here are some useful tips
- first of all when puppy is in the crate sit beside the crate with them for a few minutes
- next step is leaving the room, leave for a couple of minutes at a time before returning to the pup, time left should be gradually built up over time
-make sure the crate is filled with things to keep the puppy happy, mine has my bed and lots of teething toys at the minute
- Ben is also fed in his crate or provided with a tasty kong/ fenrir hammer or other enrichment toy.
-Expect crying at first, no it’s not a nice sound, but immediately removing the puppy after crying will teach it that throwing a strop gets positive results
-Once the pup is settled and quiet in the crate you can give treats, we often drop them through the top of the crate
-When in training try to have x2 15 minute sessions in the crate per day
- Make sure you position your crate in a safe place away from anything the pup can reach and harm themselves with
- Never use the crate as a punishment we want this to be a place of comfort and safety and not associate it with negativity

Let me know your opinions on crate training and how you got on with it🙏💙🐾
