Introducing our new friend, Cooper! We transported Cooper to/from home and Camp Fido Dog Daycare this week with our Pet Taxi service. As you can see, his "Uber" was a relaxing 5-star experience! 😉

🚗 Looking for a ride to your pet's appointment? Pet Taxis operate within our service area and are charged based on mileage traveled. Reach out to us for your grooming, boarding, or daycare transport needs—available 365 days per year, from 6am-11pm!

Nicole here to share another success story from a recent pet sitting pup we met! 👋

Would you just look at that sweet face! It's hard to imagine such a content and precious guy looking upset or grumbly, isn't it? 🧐

Our new friend Calvin got the "C9C VIP treatment" recently while his paw-rents were traveling! At his 1st visit, Calvin was quite shy and nervous. Luckily, his visitor put their skills training and resources to use and contacted the manager on call (my twin sister and certified trainer and behavior consultant, Jordan) to come out and assist! She made her way there despite it being 10pm on a weekend evening! 🌙

Together, they worked to help ease Calvin's uncertainty and updated his care protocol catered to his needs! The result is as pictured: seeing his true colors come through and personality shine and participating in activities such as brain games with the towel, walks outside and goofy treat catches, and snuggling up and smiling at his new friends! 😄

I am SO PROUD of the team and culture we have created! There has been an unimaginable amount of effort, care, time, and energy to meet all we encounter (humans and pets alike) with the very best care possible! We are endlessly tahnkful for the community for supporting us and giving us a chance to do what we do best -- helping families and their pets truly shine in all that we do! 🌟

A take on a trend going around! The trend is titled “advice I, as a dog trainer, would give you if I weren’t afraid to hurt your feelings” rather than “hard to swallow” – but I renamed it as I am NOT shy to tell clients what I see, as a professional responsible for clear and transparent communication, and while feelings tend to run BIG in the cases I work, there’s no need for either of us to shy away from them. This is HARD work!

As always, there is more nuance to be added here that can't be captured in words, but I found it to be a fun exercise on sharing what I commonly see and how I go about it in behavior and training plans for ALL of our services—whether it’s a pet sitting booking, dog walk, day camp, outing, or training service.

🌟Working so hard to grow his crew, this week we're celebrating Zagreus W! 🌟

Zagreus has been working hard in day camp at his dog-dog skills, going from stiff as a board and approaching head-on from private sessions, into meeting dogs of ALL personalities, from exuberance, to stand-offish, to reactive, and next up, small and barky! His people report he has been able to enter more social circles at home successfully as he has "lightened up" through small group play interactions. Give Zagreus a good boy hooray with us this Wednesday!

Do you take your dogs to the dog park? Curious to hear everyone's thoughts! Chime on in.

When we use dog parks in our day camp, Reactivity Rehab, Puppy Camp, and Drop Off Day Training programs, our rule is that we will ONLY enter the park if it is empty, and we train staff on how to politely share the space (including yielding the space to the public). 🐕

Social media may paint a LOT of "absolutes" in dog handling choices, but the truth is some households have specific needs met by shared public spaces, and the 'never' and 'always' statements tend to do more harm than good.

We take dogs to these spaces for off-leash play, scent exposures (did you know some dogs reactivity process requires therapeutic intervention toward just the scent of other dogs?), practice around distractions, and lowering the intensity of the sight of other dogs. We don't let any dogs in our services greet dogs outside their households while on walks and outings to eliminate the safety matters present, as we are not the primary handlers or owners of your dog, and it's our job to reduce risk where we can. That doesn't mean all dog park use is 'wrong' — just that we acknowledge and honor the inherent demands at play when we are handling someone ELSE'S dog for them!

📸 Many dogs during our Field Trip, Day Camp, or Dog Training services working outside of the dog park!

Cheering on miss Gemma as she learns to walk on the doggy treadmill during one of her activity sessions 🥳... I was especially excited that she had learned to step onto it all on her own! 👏

We LOVE seeing dogs learn, have fun, and THRIVE by providing new experiences for them! Routine services such as dog walks, work day let outs, and field trips (in nature or pet-friendly public spaces) provide pets with the opportunity to expand their horizons and have both physical AND mental benefits, too! The goal is never just to tire dogs out, but to FULFILL them through biological outlets, multiple forms of exercise, and meeting their innate needs.

It's always so much more than just a dog walk, field trip, or drop in visit for us. We'd love to chat about how we can be of assistance in enriching the lives of your pups! 🎉

Availability for our fall SLIDING SCALE package pricing is full. 🥰

Sliding scale slots were launched in an August announcement this year to increase accessibility and fulfill our core value of Community here at Cloud 9. We're privileged and grateful to have reached a point to be able to offer this option to households in Kalamazoo.

We will continue to enroll end of year training and behavior packages throughout the rest of 2025. Most packages are booking 2 months out, so don't wait! 👀

If you'd like a sliding scale slot, we will open availability again for winter 2025. Shoot us a message to get on our waitlist!

Happy training! 🍂🎃👻

Need help fending off the excess energy your dog has while recovering from their spay-neuter surgery while maintaining their healing process? We're here to help. 🫶

Locking up a dog for weeks on end doesn't tend to bode well for many of our Sporting, Herding, and Working group friends. Following Post-Operative Precautions with your veterinarian's orders, we keep dogs on their walking, field trip, and day camp schedules—as cleared by their veterinarian—to give you a break from nursing them back to health and keep their brains active during recovery.

Send all the healing vibes his way with a ❤️ for our best buddy named George S!

My Zuko turned 5 years old this week! 🎉 Honestly, his life is so full that it's difficult to find ways to celebrate–so we have a tradition of going to Lake Michigan to run and swim off-leash, while spending the day as a "yes day" to everything he asks for. Zuko has a LOT of structure in his daily life thanks to a brain that never wants to shut off, so it's fun to give him that freedom.

A few years ago, I committed to ensuring Zuko didn't go on the back burner while caring for everyone elses' pets. No more making up walking time on weekends, cutting training short, or answering the phone in the middle of "his" time. Working around the clock to run a business—especially one based in services only, so our time is our product, and one that is essential life-sustaining service running 365 days per year—is a lot, but it's not a reason to miss out on my own dog's joy. I'm grateful for the wonderful people I have met and worked with along the way, and all that I learn and benefit from filling my cup first before pouring into others'. 💙

🌟Hip hip hooray, this week we're celebrating Peaches K! 🌟

Miss Peaches came to us with a similar history of last week's feature, having some especially intense history around visitors at the home and using her teeth. Since visiting her and her sister multiple days per week on a recurring schedule, Peaches has welcomed almost our entire team into her home for enrichment outings and pet sitting bookings while also showing a decline in intensity and frequency in some of her other behaviors. We are delighted to be entrusted with the care of this sweet girl!

The benefits of regular walks and visits beyond exercise and potty breaks:

Pictured below are 2 of my personal kitties, Xi (pronounced like anXIety) and Aslan, a.k.a. Tiny! Xi has been my very good boy since before C9C even existed! Prior to having our office space, a lot of our staff training, orientation, and meetings were conducted at my residence!

This meant that Xi got to meet a LOT of people! At first, he was quite shy and would hide when visitors came over, even friends or family. Over time, he became much more social and outgoing!

Regular positive interactions with other people, plus confidence building and enriching activities like leash walks, have helped Xi blossom! On the flip side, my youngest cats, Tiny being 1 of them, have NOT had this experience. This comes out in various forms, including a recent vet visit. Notice the difference in body language and demeanor in Xi (sitting tall, hair is not standing on end, pupils normal) versus Tiny (hiding in my jacket turned kitty fort, pupils very dilated, face tense).

This also applies to my other kitties; the older one, Nala, will come out and greet guests squeakily, whereas the younger one Kenai, will hide.

SOCIALIZATION, CONFIDENCE BUILDING, and ENRICHMENT are all factors that occur during routine visits. It is crazy to me to see the difference in my 2 older cats who got lots of positive exposure, compared to my 2 older cats that did not have this opportunity. Even if you work from home or play fetch with your dog in the backyard, we are dedicated, skilled, and experienced to provide structured socialization and enrichment to pets of all kinds in a manner that sets them up for success in other areas of life, too!
