We have had a busy weekend training K9s!
Friday and Saturday we trained at Delgrossos Amusement park and in downtown Tyrone for the annual K9 Training put on by Heaven Scent Search and Rescue.
This morning we traveled to Brookville to assist Pine Creek K9 Search Unit while they finished up certification testing with the International Bloodhound Training Institute!
It was a great weekend of training and we all had a blast!

K9 Jane killed it at training tonight!
Many times on live searches we end up starting a trail from the subjects home. This is a challenge for both the handler and the K9.
With that subject being in, out, and around their home constantly their scent is everywhere in that area which creates what is called a scent pool. This scent pool can be tough for the K9 to work out of and pick the direction of the freshest trail.
Tonight we set up a scenario at a mock subjects home at the back of the house where she is constantly going to the garage, the pool, the garden, and the back porch. They also have a dog which creates an extra distraction.
Both K9 Willow and K9 Marshall have done this many times but this was K9 Jane's first time and she rose to the challenge! Once given the command to start the trail she checked the door and then turned around and followed the subjects trail right out of the yard through the gap on the edge of the yard just past the garden within 30 seconds! From there she worked the rest of the 1/4 mile trail and found her subject in a hurry!
This girl continues to impress us every time we put her harness on!

Happy 9th birthday to K9 Marshall! We celebrated his birthday by doing his favorite thing! At 9 years old he is still out there dragging Bonnie around like he is a puppy!

K9 Marshall had a severe reaction to an insect bite/sting tonight that caused him to collapse and his whole body swelled up with hives. We gave him benadryl and rushed him to CPVETS in State College where he was treated for anaphylaxis.
He is home now and he will be getting lots of love for the next few days while he recovers!
We can not even begin to thank the staff at CPVETS enough for taking care of Marshall and most likely saving his life! They are great at what they do and we are forever grateful!

GIRARD TOWNSHIP – A missing Massachusetts man was found dead in Girard Township, Clearfield County, Coroner Kim Shaffer-Snyder confirmed on
Wednesday night around 6pm we were called to the scene of a missing 19 year old man to assist LeContes Mills Fire Company 21, Karthaus Vol. Fire Co. and Pennsylvania State Police. Pine Creek K-9 Search Unit responded to assist us and we searched well into the night with no luck.
We returned Thursday morning with the addition of Elkland Search and Rescue and Clearfield County EMA and searched all day.
Saturday morning we returned with the addition of McKean County District Attorney K9 Team, Allegheny Mountain Rescue Group, Northern Tier K9, Inc , Laurel Mountain K9 Search & Rescue , Northwest Pennsylvania K9 Search and Rescue, and Lawrence County K-9 Search and Rescue to search all day until shortly after dark.
We would like to extend a huge thank you to everyone that made it out to help!! These volunteers all left their families and drove hours away to spend days and nights in the cold, snow, rain, and wind to give their time to help find this young man. There was a lot going on and tons of volunteers out there so please let us know if we missed anyone.
Lost and Hound SAR will not be providing any further information about this search

It was a great day to get out and train some K9s!
We had several members from Pine Creek K-9 Search Unit and the McKean County District Attorney K9 Team join us today. It was a brisk 25 degrees first thing this morning and the wind really picked up this afternoon but it turned out to be a very productive day for all the K9s and handlers!
A huge thank you to all of our "missing persons" that came out and braved the weather, all of the members from other teams that made the trip to train with us, and especially to the Shawver family for letting us use their property for training!

Our Junior handler got some much needed practice with his leash handling skills at practice tonight
K9 Jane is doing fantastic with her training! She completed several trails on Saturday that were around .3 miles long with numerous distractions that included working right through a crowd of about 30 boy scouts and running a trail across an open grate bridge over a spillway of a lake! Here she is pulling hard on the last stretch of a trail!
We had a great day of training at Black Moshannon State park today! Here is Marshall finishing one of his trails in the middle of an April blizzard
